To wear a corset dress when 21 weeks pregnant

Housequeen101 · 01/09/2017 15:37

Getting married soon and will be 21+1 pregnant. My dress was made to measure and very expensive (didn't know i was preggers at the time) my seamstress has removed the boning and added more material to the back panel but my main concern is baby's safety. Was under the impression that asking as it wasn't tight it would be fine but now I'm seriously panicking, this baby was so longed for and couldn't bare the thought of anything happening because I wanted to wear a pretty dress. I'm a big girl anyway so would that help? Any other mums wore corset when pregnant? Thanks

If the bones have been removed it's not technically a corset anymore is it? Is it tight?

kaytee87 · 01/09/2017 15:39

The bones have been removed so there's no corset anymore. You'll be fine.

PinkHeart5911 · 01/09/2017 15:39

As long as it definitely isn't too tight, I would imagine baby will be fine.

My concern would be if it isn't tighter properly will it look right?

AnUtterIdiot, did you read the post? Bones have been removed. If it looks good without being too tight, I'm sure it will be fine.

Housequeen101 · 01/09/2017 15:43

I have a terrible memory but I'm sure she said she'd removed the boning, will have a dress fitting Monday.

Pink heart I know, I've only myself to blame as I left it to late to get a maternity dress for after the ceremony.

My last fitting was a few weeks ago and it was done up tightly and looked gorgeous but I know I can't have it done up to tight

It wouldn't matter if it was fully boned, you can't hurt a foetus with a dress.

SaucyJack · 01/09/2017 15:44

If the bones are removed, then it'll be fine. It's just fabric. Fabric will not harm your baby.

Enjoy your big day xx

How about having a Chinese style wedding? You wear your dress for the wedding service and photos session. Turn up to the Reception for a few minutes and then go off and change into another wedding style but coloured dress. You can then spend the rest of the day in comfort without worrying

SecretFreebirther · 01/09/2017 15:47

In the nicest possible way, if you are 'a big girl' then I doubt even a boned corset would be squishing your uterus. It's really not an issue of your baby's safety but rather your comfort. Have a wonderful day!

Nuttynoo · 01/09/2017 15:48

You could buy an empire dress for after the church/registry bit. Monsoon and Hobbs do a few really nice ones.

Does the boned/deboned area actually come down to the important bits for the baby anyway? It might be worth actually looking at a diagram to see where the baby is likely to be sitting in comparison to the top of your hips - I have a feeling it's lower than where you'd need to worry about tight lacing anyway but can't actually remember!!

Then just make sure that the lacing is looser at the bottom - it's probably more important to make sure it's tight enough at the top, anyway, to replace a bra.

BannedFromNarnia · 01/09/2017 15:53

OH and if you really do need to replace: Curves and Couture in Essex will be able to supply a dress at short notice. They're really excellent, I bought my dress off the peg from there.

Runningpear · 01/09/2017 15:53

Yes to buying an empire style dress to wear after ceremony & photos. You will be so much more comfortable

My friend had a Chinese wedding and it worked beautifully! By the time everyone has had a glass or ten of champagne, no-one will notice what you're wearing! Plus, as a bridesmaid, we all sighed with relief at the chance to get rid of our heels!! Grin

TooSweetForSugar · 01/09/2017 16:06

As long as the seamstress knows what she is doing it will look lovely. Good luck OP

I wore a fitted long dress when I was about 23 weeks pregnant to a black tie dinner. I hired it and it looked fab despite me thinking I would look like a whale

Housequeen101 · 01/09/2017 16:27

Thank you all

There's is boning under the bust. Would like to buy another but don't think I have time before I get married, all shops near me are made to measure

Unless you are planning on getting your waist pulled in to 16 inches you are quite safe and so is your baby. It's extremely hard to squash a foetus so just adjust the dress for a comfortable yet fabulous fit and enjoy your day. (Long time midwife)

Please post pics, we all love a wedding dress. Smile

TooSweetForSugar · 01/09/2017 16:34

This shop has online and lots of maternity wedding dresses - worth a look if only to give you ideas as to what looks good on a maternity wedding dress:

Just spoke with my seamstress and she said there is boning under the bust and where my tummy is. Shit! Although she did mention that she could take it out but it would amend the shape of the dress. She said she's adjusted lots of pregnant brides before and never had any issues nor been requested to remove boning

The baby will be fine, but you might be uncomfortable. I agree with just changing dress once you've done photos. Something nice and floaty

VestalVirgin · 01/09/2017 17:19

As long as you aren't uncomfortable, your baby is guaranteed to be safe, so don't worry too much! Just make sure you are comfortable.
