Wibu to wear a white dress to a hen do?

Just as the title says really!

A friend's hen do is coming up and it is 'themed' so everyone will be in fancy dress. I'm quite short on money at the moment so I can't afford to buy a whole new costume that I will only wear once so I'm 'making' an appropriate costume for the theme out of something I already own.

Said dress for the costume is white and lacy (short dress). I know obviously wearing this to the actual wedding would be a complete no no but is wearing it to a hen do ok? Especially if I have silly accessories so it's obvious I'm in fancy dress? Or will I get mistaken for the bride to be and be an embarrassment? Wibu to wear it?

Hens generally wear white to the hen do - but not many have fancy dress theme

RhubardGin · 31/08/2017 22:18

But also, utter bollocks. That's not a thing

It's not complete bollocks because it's a thing here.

I'm in Scotland, maybe we're just weird?

I think you are going to have to spill about the theme OP as it isn't making much sense.................

Amanduh · 31/08/2017 22:21

A lot of hen dos do have the brode in white.
Depends what the character is reallt

Are you Wilma Flinstone?

MidiMitch · 31/08/2017 22:30

Put a toilet roll horn on your head and bingo you're a unicorn.

BossWitch · 31/08/2017 22:31

I missed the memo... I wore a black dress on my hen I think!

OnlyRose · 31/08/2017 22:31

Rhubarb, do you live in a town beginning with P? Just wondering if it's another local tradition along with big hats and big prams?!

coddiwomple · 31/08/2017 22:32

the bride has always worn a white dress on a hen do

huh? I am trying to remember but I can't think of any friend who did wear white. We are mostly based in London if that helps Grin

Last hen do I went to was vintage clothes, everybody looked amazing but nope, nothing white in there at all.

OP you can always run your outfit pas the bride-to-be, but it does sound perfectly ok.

(on another note, Papafran might not care, but white/cream/ ivory are strictly reserved for the bride at her wedding. It is a thing. Not the hen do though)

OnlyRose · 31/08/2017 22:33

Rhubard, sorry.
OP, I'd wear the white dress. Have fun!

DD0314 · 31/08/2017 22:35

Check with the bride. Every hen do I've been to the bride has worn white but if she isn't anyway I don't see what the issue would be. If you're worried though just mention it to the bride.

grandOlejukeofYork · 31/08/2017 22:38

It's fancy dress and the bride is NOT wearing white.

SharkiraSharkira · 31/08/2017 23:29

I didn't want to risk upsetting anyone so I did check with the bride and she is fine with it, phew!
