To lie to people

Is it unreasonable to lie when you can't be arsed with the truth?

I lie a lot. How bad is it really?

I have a friend who lies to have things to talk about. They're never malicious but I find myself glazing over when she starts one of her stories as I can never trust that they're true. I remember the day I realised that she was a liar, I lost a lot of respect for her. That was years ago and I've tried to understand why she does it. I think it comes from a place of very low self-esteem and when she starts I try to be compassionate, but quite often I just feel irritated and bored with it.

Can you tell us why you feel you have to lie to dh? Why would he be pissed off with the truth?

The problem Champ is that if you get caught out in a lie once that person will never ever trust you again.

They won't necessarily mention that they don't trust you, they might even nod and smile while you are speaking but your credibility is gone.

People don't really distinguish between small lies and big lies either. So if you tell me you've read a book or been somewhere when further discussion reveals that to be untrue I'm unlikely to trust you when you need me to.

What kinds of things are you lying to your DH about? He's meant to be the one person in the world you can be totally honest with.

My BIL lies to have something to say or make himself seem better/more important and has been caught out so many times. Now nobody in the family believes anything he says. It's a shame. Don't tell lies to have something to say because as PPs have said people can see through it
