when having a walk in the paking with my ds yesterday i spotted a father playing with a ball with his daughter (who was around 3). As I got closer I could see that she was only wearing a pair of shorts!! no vest/t-shirt just shorts! I know the sun is out but it's nowhere near hot enough for that imo. I pointed this out to my dh who said there was probably a good reason- she might have got her top wet or something??? Is it just me or does anyone else find this wrong!

I was actually going to start a thread on this cause when I was out for lunch there I saw a woman in M&S wearing a strapless sun dress and flip flops

twobabies · 02/04/2007 13:55

I think its fine, she would have said if she was cold and you didn't mention her looking upset at all. I took my dd out yesterday in a tennis dress, poncho, socks and shoes and had a lady actually come up to me and say "gosh look at her bare legs, she must be freezing you should have wrapped her up more!!" I then spent the rest of the day paranoid that everyone was thinking I hadn't clothed her properly...

So I'm glad to hear about all these other lo's playing in pools and running round with no clothes on!!

nothing to do with it being the father!!!! That was the only person with the girl might have been uncle or friend whatever my point was how cold it was not the gender of the person who was with her. as i've said my point was the weather i know kids have minds of their own- my son refuses to wear socks!! but imo yesterday was too cold for a child of around 3 to ONLY be wearing a pair of shorts and nothing else.

maybe he was letting her experience the word consequence, its an important lesson and they're never too young

prawnsmum · 02/04/2007 15:57

leiselventouse think you have my point it's only April not the middle of July-its still cold even though the sun's out!!

My ds refuses point blank to have the raincover on his pushchair even in a torrential downpour and people give me looks like I'm a terrible mum for letting him get wet. She probably wanted her t-shirt off because she was hot. Children do seem to be hotter than adults at that age.

Tiredeasterbunny · 02/04/2007 22:18

Oh FFS, do you really have so little going on in your life that you notice and judge someone because the child in their care only had a pair of shorts on?! Was the child being beaten? Was she crying? Was she blue with cold and begging for clothes? Why as parents do we spend so much time bitching about the way other people live their lives and look after their children?!!

lisad123 · 02/04/2007 22:32

Sorry but maybe she had a temp but was well enough to play out. If she seemed fine she properly was. My DH always struggles to know what to put on DD.
I would worry about your own kids and stop worrying about others that are ok.

Sorry haven't read the whole thread but my dd1 & dd2 keep taking clothes off to play in garden. Don't have a clue why end up with dd1 just in pants and socks and dd2 just in her socks and nappy. They look a right picture jumping up and down on trampoline but when I argue they say their too hot so I leave them until they want to get re-dressed.

chipmonkey · 02/04/2007 23:23

My dsis and her friend stripped naked and ran out into the snow once when my dad was supposed to be looking after them!

prawnsmum · 03/04/2007 09:15

tiredeasterbunny I have plenty going on in my life the only reason i noticed the child is because she stood out in a park of fully dressed kids! I totally understand that children strip off as soon as the sun is out I have neices and nephews and a son of my own so plenty of expeience of this but my point was that it was COLD. we had to scrape ice from our car on sunday, monday and this morning-even though the sun is out!!

i remember my mum always used to say things like "put a jumper on, i'm cold" and it used to drive me mental because i was warm!

Now there's a girl who is walking to the bus stop along our route to the boys school who always drags her coat along behind her, never wears it, no matter if its blowing a gale or pouring with rain. i always want to stop and tell her to put it on! and i wonder if she left the house like that, or took off the coat around the corner. am i judging the mother for not stapling a coat to her child's shoulders?

so i know it's common to look at folks and think they must be cold/hot because you are, but the kid was probably boiling hot from all the running around.
