when having a walk in the paking with my ds yesterday i spotted a father playing with a ball with his daughter (who was around 3). As I got closer I could see that she was only wearing a pair of shorts!! no vest/t-shirt just shorts! I know the sun is out but it's nowhere near hot enough for that imo. I pointed this out to my dh who said there was probably a good reason- she might have got her top wet or something??? Is it just me or does anyone else find this wrong!

It may have been her idea. My kids used to rip their clothes off in ridiculous weather (and paddle in the North Sea in January)

luckylady74 · 02/04/2007 11:03

my 2 yr old dd did run into our very sheltered garden nude yesterday afternoon, but i did put clothes on her when i caught her and we'd had jumpers on in the park that morning. i can't bear to think that any of mine are cold/hungry or tired, but that's just my issues! there were kids in shorts yesterday!

chacha3 · 02/04/2007 11:04

plus running around with a ball do getyou hot and sweaty! not that i would do it with my girls1

it was quite warm yesterday if you were active..I went on a six mile walk and could have taken my top off if I had been 4

prawnsmum · 02/04/2007 11:07

i'm probably just being over protective!! other kids did have shorts as it was a lovely day but she just looked so small to have nothing on top i wanted to wrap a blanket around her!

We had to walk round the sombre majesty of Knole Park and House yesterday with dd dressed only in a skinny Hello Kitty (goodbye taste) t shirt and pink leggings!
She declined to wear either her warm fleece hoodie, which she normally loves, or her windcheater.
I half expected to find a thread on Mn about this, she was ludicrously underdressed but short of manhandling her into a jacket that she would then remove in seconds, what can you do? I also think by this age they are old enough to make the connection between choosing silly attire and suffering the consequences. Most annoyingly dd was chuffed to bits with being half-naked and clearly has antifreeze in her blood

prawnsmum · 02/04/2007 11:12

no just sitting on the grass rolling a ball back and forth to her dad, but I had a light jacket on and did't fell too hot and was pushing a buggy. Just didnt think yesterday was no top weather!

Dont see anything wrong with that unless you had good reason to be worried

MrsWednesday · 02/04/2007 11:14

My DSs were running round the garden in just nappies/underpants yesterday. I did try to persuade them to put T-shirts on briefly, but five minutes later they'd been discarded. Had to drag them inside in the end as DS2 was covered in goosebumps but still refused to put clothes on!

some kids just don't feel the cold

gess · 02/04/2007 11:30

ds1 goes outside in the garden with no shoes, on, just pyjamas and frost on the ground (we do call him in to put on a coat etc).

Blu · 02/04/2007 11:32

Snort at 'Hello Kitty' , goodbye taste!!

prawnsmum · 02/04/2007 11:32

can i just add that i live in Scotland so even though the sun was out yesterday it was still about -3!!

my ds is only 3.5 and he drives me bonkers when we go out, he just doesn't feel the cold. I can be in the house wearing a jumper and he's prancing round with no clothes on then thinks nothing of stripping as many layers as possible off while we're out shopping.
i'm sure people look at me and think exactly what you were yesterday!

prufrock · 02/04/2007 11:34

Well I had 4 naked children running in and out of the water jets in my garden yesterday and they all refused to get dressed or even take advantage of the warmed towels I had ready for them - I do think that it is rare that a semi naked toddler hasn't insisted on being that way themsleves

Wags · 02/04/2007 11:35

My DD would wear as little as possible and as she is nearly 4 I pretty much let her get on with it. She is a hot body like me, I can picture her a while back in the park, no coat with her friend who also insisted no coat, swear the pair of them were going slightly blue round the lips but they said they were both hot!! Tend not to worry about it really, so if the little girl looked OK then fine. Certainly nothing wrong about it, never have been one to wrap up a child of that age - they can tell you how they feel. I would rather see a kid like that having fun than one all wrapped up hardly moving!

prawnsmum · 02/04/2007 11:39

agree wags but you can sitll run around no problem with a top on!

OP posts:
Wags · 02/04/2007 11:48

In theory...... but wish someone would tell my DD that. She if almost 4, if she is hot then layers come off never mind what the weather is like. She is happy, I think its funny!

ernest · 02/04/2007 11:59

why does the title say That at FATHER had hid daughter only in a apir of shorts? Do you really see the gender of the parent as being an issue?

You really seem to be suggesting something there?

TBH I don't see a 3 year old running around playing without a t shirt as being anything noteworthy at all.

prawnsmum, my kids were running around in their swimming cossies, and that's in Scotland too. It was a lovely day, I was in a t-shirt, so don't want to offend but don't see what the issue is???

scatterbrain · 02/04/2007 12:28

I agree YABU - it might have been UNWISE given that it wan't very warm - but no definitely not WRONG - that implies something else entirely !
