So sorry, partially posting for traffic but also I have no idea where else this could go on the forum.

It's my DHs 30th and I'm stuck for ideas.
He doesn't like watches, has plenty of aftershave, doesn't wear ties or cufflinks, isn't very sentimental, sells 'experiences' for a living (driving, shooting, extreme sports etc), can't afford a trip away (have young kids).... so far all I've thought of is a pair of Levi's... is that a shit 30th present? Heeeeeeeelp

How much can you afford?

iklboo · 30/08/2017 10:47

Does he like whisky or gin? You can get personalised bottles.

For DH's 30th I got lots of little things from his birth year - a Beano annual, number one record from the year / month he was born, reproduction film poster from a big movie out that year etc.

Sayyouwill · 30/08/2017 11:33

I have about £200 put aside for it.

He does like gin but he never drinks in the house. He literally only drinks on nights out. We have quite a few bottles of things I've bought him over the years lol

I could do with ideas for DPs 60th in 2 weeks(!) - he's no help at all.... We will be on holiday for the actual day & I will take him to dinner but for present have only got as far as thinking of cufflinks (as small & light!)but he very rarely wears them...

Sorry to derail thread!

Sayyouwill · 30/08/2017 11:55

@Columbine1 it's my dad's 60 in a couple months too and I'm racking my brains!!

Thinking maybe a gin tasting experience?

Try notonthehighstreet they have loads of everyday items/products that you can personalise, as do those other card companies like moonpig

PandorasXbox · 30/08/2017 12:06

A pair of Levi's is a good present if that's what you think he'll love. No point in wasting money on something he won't enjoy or like!

Ivory200 · 30/08/2017 12:08

A really nice photo of your DCs, get it printed out and buy a lovely frame. It's personal, and something he will have for ever.

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 12:11

Ugh, who wants a photo frame? Why not just ask him what he wants OP?

19lottie82 · 30/08/2017 12:13

Ask him? It seems a shame to waste £200 on something if he won't like it?

If he likes clothes you could take him out into town and make a day of it? Buy him £150 worth of clothes and use the remainder to go for lunch and a couple of drinks?

MrsEricBana · 30/08/2017 12:13

I did a photo book for dh's 50th plus small family party here, meal out, 2 bottles of special wine that he likes.

19lottie82 · 30/08/2017 12:13

Ivory, sweet idea but not a very exciting 30th present IMO, sorry.

19lottie82 · 30/08/2017 12:14

Party is a good idea, if he would like that? £200 would be enough to hire a small venue and provide a buffet.

OstentatiousWanking · 30/08/2017 12:16

Are any bands he likes due to tour?

rjay123 · 30/08/2017 12:18

A gin making experience?

SparklingBollox · 30/08/2017 12:19

Just ask him. He might want to put the money towards something or have an idea you haven't thought of.

Neverknowing · 30/08/2017 12:23

Men are so hard to buy for !!
I brought my DP some shoes, socks (men like socks more than you realise), PS4 games, PS4 online subscription thingy, some t-shirts, fancy whiskey and some stupid remote control boat thing ?

Neverknowing · 30/08/2017 12:24

Ooh and one year I brought him a beer making kit? Maybe something like that but for gin?

PeaFaceMcgee · 30/08/2017 12:25

No, men are not harder to buy for.

Sayyouwill · 30/08/2017 12:46

I asked him and he said he wants a hug.
So not very helpful.
He likes clothes, things like northface, but I can't afford a jacket as well as the Levi's.

The gin making idea could be good... he's just so hard to buy for!
I wanted to get him something he could keep forever but he's not that type of person... was going to get him a puppy but we haven't moved into the new house yet god knows when we will so can get one just yet.

I'm going to make him a proper cake, make a Guinness cake and get him a retro box of sweets from 1987, but still feel like I'm missing a 'main' present...

OP posts:
Columbine1 · 30/08/2017 12:47

Gin tasting/making experience sounds good - I'll look into it.

I was already thinking of taking him clothes shopping so glad that's regarded as acceptable for a present :)

Sayyouwill · 30/08/2017 12:47

This sort of thing but with Guinness. I know I said he doesn't drink in the house but he does like Guinness and always has a 'walking' can when he goes up the road to his friends house when footballs on or something. Plus it looks fun

I LOVED my gin tasting experience.

Saysomething88 · 30/08/2017 12:50

Make him a cake of the things he likes (or order one)
Buy him a couple of token gifts so he has something to open- nice tops or maybe a shirt from all saints (if your OH likes that kind of thing)
Organise a babysitter so you two can go out for a meal that night. Look on NOTHS for a nice personalised card too.

rizlett · 30/08/2017 12:53

Get him this - my op loves his - he's 63 - took him quite a while to work out how to fly it [get extra blades!] - and it keeps him quiet.
