Dd 14, back to school and new rule females pupils are not to pull up tights in front of male teachers

Dd 14 had her first assembly of the year this morning, and head mistress / principle has a list of new rules, one including female students are banned from pulling up/ adjusting their 60 denier tights in front of male teachers as she feels this is inappropriate and it must be done in private in bathrooms. Surely this is crazy?

It's weird that they're specifying not to do it in front of male teachers. Are they worried they might catch a glimpse of underwear?

I always wear big pants over my tights to stop them falling down. Tights are a pain.

It should be in front of any teacher. The option for girls to wear trousers should be there as well.

Hallmark of an alumna of an all-girls' school. It was a nightmare when I went to uni, it took me YEARS to stop reflexively just going 'hang on' in the middle of a corridor. Still have to stop myself somehow.

We used to have the most awful wool grey ones and if you were looking a bit saggy, so like all the time, anyone near you - even if you didn't know them - would just go 'Tights!' and you'd stop and hoik them. Uniform was ridiculous but you'd get order marks for untidyness because I went to school in an Enid Blyton novel.

I dimly recall a male teacher once trying to suggest it wasn't very ladylike and getting roundly argued into silence by the outraged girls in my form.

My DH has just laughed out loud and said "why, can't the male teachers control themselves? FFS, maybe they shouldn't be sodding teachers then. In fact, maybe they shouldn't be alive".

I work in a school and IME it's always the girls' uniform that's picked over and criticised. Plenty of boys wear skin tight trousers and very thin shirts, but that's never mentioned.

Personally I'm sways yanking up my tights.

Zaphodsotherhead Ours were grey, but they had to go under the tights.

(Mercifully mass protests rectified this whilst I was there - mostly centred around pointing out that a) central heating had been invented and b) M&S now did much nicer cotton ones than when the school was founded in the jurassic era.)

Depends how they're doing it. Maybe she said male teachers as a male member of staff has complained and didn't want to single him out then again she could ha e just said do it in private altogether sort of thing who knows I need more info

We used to wear our gym knickers over our tights to stop the sliding down phenomenon.

It's an all girls school, very strict uniform, skirt to knee, 60 denier. Head mistress very clearly said it was inappropriate to pull up / adjust tights in front of Male teachers. The girls in my dds form are 13/14 years old approx.

Do they pull up their skirts? I can't believe a teenage girl would pull her skirt up and adjust her tights, if boys are pulling their trousers down to adjust their boxers that would also be inappropriate but as nothing has been said about that I assume boys keep their trousers pulled up.

I went to a girls school and we certainly wouldn't have done this, at primary maybe but not senior school.

There was a male teacher at my all girls school who was overly concerned with this sort of thing. The women generally couldn't give a shit. He wasn't worried about distractions (gay) , just had very clear (outdated) ideas about what a young lady should be like.

If this had been a rule we would have been outraged. And been constantly asking to go to the loo in all the male teachers lessons.
