DH agreed to buy his mums kindle on my Amazon account as we were buying one anyway for dd's birthday.
MIL informs me a few days later that until she registered it in her name she could see all my books.
That's right, ALL my books. Blush

AIBU to think that Amazon should ask you first before dumping a load of books on your new device. I will never live this down.

Oh no! No advice but hope you find a way round it and are not too mortified. Although Iam intrigued by your reading listGrin

NikiBabe · 28/08/2017 22:24

What were you reading?!

absolutelynoway · 28/08/2017 22:25

Oh no! Criiiiiinge

sadiemm2 · 28/08/2017 22:27

Lawks, I have some very...interesting.. books on my kindle. I'd be Blush

Wheels79 · 28/08/2017 22:28

Amazon asks if it is for you or a gift. I guess in this case you DH didn't change from the default.

gamerchick · 28/08/2017 22:29

Ask her did she like what she saw with a couple of Wink Wink

That's what she gets for being a cock and mentioning it to you.

kindlemanic · 28/08/2017 22:31

They do ask if the device is a gift - which then won't be automatically registered to your account and loaded with your library. Wouldn't want my MIL to see my 600+ library of books either - she might question why the hoovering has not been done but I have enough time to read all these books!

fannydaggerz · 28/08/2017 22:32

What are you reading?!

To be honest, I would be mortified too but I would also start downloading all sorts now I know she can see.

BenLui · 28/08/2017 22:33

Oh dear, that's not a good thing at all. Blush Cringing just thinking about that.

A person's Kindle should be sacred!

Spottylu · 28/08/2017 22:35

Knew it was somehow DHs fault. Will tell him so once he stops laughing.
What was I reading? Lots of good mind enhancing stuff with the odd erotic romance thrown in.

hellokittymania · 28/08/2017 22:39

Poor you. I don't have anything too bad on my reading list, but I do have a lot of law, medical, dentistry, books books in many different languages and children's books online so they would probably get a headache. I just don't like romance. I have some fiction, but not really too much about romance

BenLui · 28/08/2017 22:41

What if you'd had "Dealing with Toxic in-laws" or something? SmileConfused

LonginesPrime · 28/08/2017 22:44

Yes, it always asks when you buy the kindle whether it's for you for this very reason!

OP, I feel your pain - the kids sometimes use my kindle and have a little snigger at some of the titles..

Spottylu · 28/08/2017 22:46

Grin Benlui. I guess it could have been worse.

OP posts:
BenLui · 28/08/2017 22:48

It can always be worse...

TheKidsAreTakingMySanity · 28/08/2017 22:48

Holy crap I'd be mortified! My kindle must NEVER be seen by anyone. I guard it with my life because it's choc full of 50 shades of grey type rubbish! Real smutty, ridiculous crap but oh so addictive and I love that shit.

Get the device back and reset it to a new account asap!

Jg1 · 28/08/2017 22:50

My DM gave me her Kindle last year and said anytime I want books, just to add them onto her account.
I looked at the books already loaded, even read a few.
Can't look her in the eyes again WinkGrin

Crumbs1 · 28/08/2017 22:51

What books would end in "no privacy at all?". I put all my books in the bookshelves and have the odd clearout where they go to a charity shop. Most of my friends and neighbours do likewise. I think we may be missing something as all we swop is recipes.

BenLui · 28/08/2017 22:55

Crumbs the whole wonderful point about a Kindle is that you buy all sorts of interesting things you'd never put on your bookshelves.

Not necessarily anything risqué but things that give rather more of an insight into one's psyche than you might be happy displaying on your living room shelves.

highinthesky · 28/08/2017 22:58

I am constantly ridiculed as a Luddite for having an extensive paper library and adding to it weekly. At least I can hide my dirtiest secrets within the deepest bookcase.

Vindicated Grin

Spottylu · 28/08/2017 22:58

Crumbs1, what the kids are taking my sanity said.
I read well written fantastic books usually recommended by book club or my mum, but when it all gets a bit stressful, I resort to real crappy romance novels that take no effort or erotica (luckily nothing to weird).

QueenofLouisiana · 28/08/2017 23:01

My mums kindle in connected to my account. I told her not to bother downloading 50 shades as I had got fed up before the sexy but got started. A few weeks later she rang to tell me she agreed. Grin

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 28/08/2017 23:11

Have you a library of Black Lace erotica on there?! Bondage, threesomes etc? Grin
That's off of Amazon, but doesn't surprise me as if you buy something off there and it's a present so you obviously don't want people to see it, it will automatically post your purchase to Facebook unless you specifically tell it not to!
Not on I agree.

Crumbs1 · 28/08/2017 23:16

Good gracious, is that all? I'm not so ancient I don't understand downloading but since I lent my 81 year old mother in law 50 shades, I think the need for privacy is overrated. She only wanted to shock her bridge group. It wasn't literature. Yes, I suppose I would be embarrassed if anyone saw something like a Mills and Boon on the bookshelf; KS is fine though.

raviolidreaming · 28/08/2017 23:29

Is your DD's also linked?!
