To tell this woman to leave my stall at carboot?

Did a carboot today for a pre Christmas clearout. Had lots of great stuff to sell of my DDs lots of designer. Didn't want much for it was pricing like £1-£2 and item. Had a woman approach and pick a pair of Dr Martens child boots, some brand new school shoes and a pair of baby Tom new in the box so I said £5 for all which I thought was more than reasonable. She then replied that she would take them all for £2, I firmly said no and she laughed and said she wouldn't leave until I said yes. Then her mother picked up a bunch of baby towels new in the packaging they were persil ones that you get free in Bounty packs. I told her mum 50p for all free and she said 'No Mum you can take them cos she got them for free anyway' I laughed and said if you don't like the prices to keep walking so she said she would just have the shoes for £2 to which I replied I had some running shoes for sale for £2 which she's gonna need if she doesn't move it along. The neighbouring stalls were laughing but after she left I felt a little harsh. Should I have accepted with it being a carboot? Was I BU? What are your funny or horrific carboot experiences?

Good for you for moving her along. Cheeky mare.

rackhampearl · 28/08/2017 20:26

Just to add although there were so many cheeky sods I did have a nice experience towards the end. I sold an African man a huge bag of baby clothes for £3 and he said 'thank you lady, you saved my life. I send these to my baby mama in Africa' I thought that was lovely Flowers

I'm a snarky cow, but I did like your comeback Grin

I don't think you were any more harsh than she was cheeky.

withlotsoflove · 28/08/2017 20:27

No You weren't be unreasonable.
She would have got a deal - very cheeky of her.

TheHuffAndPuffALot · 28/08/2017 20:27

Some people have absolutely no shame - you were giving it away as it was!!
Good on you for standing your ground.

Rkd808 · 28/08/2017 20:27

It's your stuff, you sell it for what you feel is resonable.

Ummmmgogo · 28/08/2017 20:27

well done. there's a pisstaker at every car boot, but you were assertive and stopped her in her tracks.

CrowChe · 28/08/2017 20:28

No harm in pushing for a good bargain at a car boot, but she sounds more than just a little pushy! It would have annoyed me too.

Did you sell them in the end for the price you wanted?

CrowChe · 28/08/2017 20:29

I remember once we were setting up early to sell our stuff at a car boot, and some cheeky fuckers were rummaging in our boot before we'd even set it out. Think that's normal though at car boots, the early birders.

elevenclips · 28/08/2017 20:30

Why is the world full of such piss takers and where the fuck do they come from Shock? You were fine op.

rackhampearl · 28/08/2017 20:30

I did sell them in the end. Separately. The boots for £3, school shoes for £2 and toms for £2 so glad I held on after all. I was just thinking, it got to the point where it was principal and I just thought no. I would rather give them away to somebody polite and in need. She ended up coming back right at the end and buying a box of nail polishes for £1 which she paid me in copper. Grin She was great.

Yes Crow, I had the flash lighters looking in before I even pulled into a spot. Dazzling me at 5.30 in the morning, so frustrating.

That man who bought a bagful is probably going to resell for more. Week in, week out, you see the same faces buying in bulk pretending they are poor. They take them back to their own stall or sell them online.

MistyMinge · 28/08/2017 21:01

You weren't harsh. She was bloody cheeky.

Haven't done a car boot in ages, but have got the serious giggles when a swarm of people descended on us as we parked up and started rifling through our stuff when we opened the boot.

Hercules12 · 28/08/2017 21:03

I think you were selling your stuff for a great price.

MyPatronusIsAUnicorn · 28/08/2017 21:31

YANBU.

I had a similar thing once. Had a whole box full of nice children's books, many new or as new, large, hardbacks etc. Man came over and asked how much, I said it depended on what he wanted. He picked up a huge armfull, all the best ones, and I said £5 which was more than fair. He kept saying "no, £4, £4," I said "no, £5" very nicely. He kept going on and I got firmer. In the end he kind of said ok, grumbled a bit and got his money out, handed it over and said "so £4?" I just looked at him and repeated myself. He said "ok, you win" and off he went with his books and I had my £5. The woman on the stall next to me said "good for you for sticking to your guns." I bloody hate doing carboots. I only sell decent stuff and they totally take the piss. Same as facebook selling and Gumtree.

Cupoteap · 28/08/2017 21:49

This is why I've never done on just cba

Winebomb · 28/08/2017 21:57

I have contemplated car boots, because our DS is the only grandparent he his very spoiled by both set, plus aunties and uncles etc. We always have far too much and have bags of things unworn after each growth spurt, oh and all the god damn toys..

I once tried to sell 2 bin liners full of mamas and papas, next, John Lewis etc stuff for £40. Job lot on Facebook. I took pictures of 6 of the best outfits, with tags probably around £600-800 clothes in the two bags and I just got repeated requests to photo every item before they would consider..

Erm no.

Everything goes on to charity now, it's just not worth how cheeky people are, for some pocket money..

Winebomb · 28/08/2017 21:58

*grandchild page!

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 28/08/2017 22:40

Well to be fair winebomb £40 is quite a lot to ask for second hand clothes. They might have cost £600 NEW, but they're second hand now, and only worth a fraction. For all the buyers knew, 90 per cent of the stuff might have been sick stained and worn out.

But OP YWNBU. Cheeky mare!

senua · 28/08/2017 22:49

I once had a similarly cheeky punter at a car boot. Wouldn't pay the asking price but also wouldn't move on.
In the end, I left DD in charge of the stall and sneaked off to ask a neighbouring stall for help. I asked them to pretend to be a punter and offer the asking price. When original punter was faced with losing her bargain to someone else she soon paid up!

Winebomb · 28/08/2017 22:55

But two full binliners, as in bursting at the seems, as a job lot for £40 (I was really expecting to be haggled down to £30) hundreds of pieces and people wanted a picture of each article of clothing.

The clothes I pictured with tags where worth much more more than £40, so everything else you get is a bonus..

I just can't cope with the tediousness of negotiations over a pound, so charity donations it is....

Winebomb · 28/08/2017 22:57

I think people haggle over £1, 50p because it's fun right??

missmollyhadadolly · 28/08/2017 22:58

InSpace it sounds like some of winebombs things had tags on. If lots had tags on, then £40 would be a bargain for M&P, JL etc.
