To tell this woman to leave my stall at carboot?

Did a carboot today for a pre Christmas clearout. Had lots of great stuff to sell of my DDs lots of designer. Didn't want much for it was pricing like £1-£2 and item. Had a woman approach and pick a pair of Dr Martens child boots, some brand new school shoes and a pair of baby Tom new in the box so I said £5 for all which I thought was more than reasonable. She then replied that she would take them all for £2, I firmly said no and she laughed and said she wouldn't leave until I said yes. Then her mother picked up a bunch of baby towels new in the packaging they were persil ones that you get free in Bounty packs. I told her mum 50p for all free and she said 'No Mum you can take them cos she got them for free anyway' I laughed and said if you don't like the prices to keep walking so she said she would just have the shoes for £2 to which I replied I had some running shoes for sale for £2 which she's gonna need if she doesn't move it along. The neighbouring stalls were laughing but after she left I felt a little harsh. Should I have accepted with it being a carboot? Was I BU? What are your funny or horrific carboot experiences?

I have done quite a few car boots in the past but now fees have gone up and I have dc, I tend to bung all to charity shops now. To avoid the early vultures rummaging in your stuff - park your car and walk away for 10 minutes and they will have moved on to the next person. You should always factor in a bit of room for haggling that's half the fun - they think they have a bargain and everyone's happy. Be firm and friendly with the pisstakers they are just trying it on. Don't spite yourself though - do you really want to pack it up and take it home again? Also don't spend your hard won money on food at the sales - bring your own!

You were absolutely not being unreasonable. What a pushy cow.

My old school used to have a Christmas fete every year and the stalls were staffed by pupils. One year I was running a stall that was basically a game of chance, which had various prizes from small things like a bag of sweets up to the star prize which was a radio-cassette player (showing my age there).

A very loud, very posh woman paid for 10 goes at 50p a go and won a bottle of wine ... and then spent the next 10 minutes arguing with me and trying to say that because she'd bought 10 tickets she should win the top prize. She was really stroppy, pushy and aggressive and got louder and shriller as the argument went on. Fortunately I was about 15 at the time and not inclined to take any shit, so was happy to stand my ground quite robustly, but she refused to leave until my form teacher's husband came over and physically ushered her away.

I later discovered she was the mum of two kids at my school and that they had a massive house with a swimming pool, so frankly she could have afforded to buy her own mid-range tape player if she'd wanted one.

I was at a carboot selling some of my late mum's possessions which included a brand new (expensive) shopping trolley. I wanted £5 as it was straight out of the packaging and this guy insisted it was broken and damaged, not worth it etc etc and kept trying to haggle down to £3.

In the end I was so fed up with him that I told him that I would rather give it to Help the Aged for nothing rather than him buying it at whatever price. That felt good and he looked most offended.

My personal rule was - never look round the boot sale if you're there selling.

Sooo easy to wander round with your bum bag full of the cash you've just earned and blow it all on other peoples tat! Grin

some people will go early to car bootsales to bag the newer stuff and then sell on ebay for a nice profit! you did right moving her along

Flicketyflack · 30/08/2017 20:43

Every car boot I have ever done has a cheeky f*** who tries it on. Like you it becomes a matter of principle! I had a women one year knock me down from £5 to £4 and then handed me a £5 note so
I had to give her change 😏.

It dries me mad but I have learnt to stand my ground and would rather give it to Barnardos to seek than some cheeky sod.

Flicketyflack · 30/08/2017 20:44

To sell 😃

I did one with my best friend once, before she moved abroad. She had a whole load of dresses she used to wear out clubbing during uni. This terrifying woman came, went methodically through each one, and bought the lot. We were really surprised because she was middle aged and plump, and the dresses were a range of sizes due to friend's epically fluctuating fresher's weight gain and subsequent diet. They were also, well, revealing Grin

Few months later, guess who was in the local paper - busted for running a brothel. Friend and I felt pretty sick

CottonSock · 30/08/2017 21:09

I've bought bundles of clothing for £40.
What's the problem?
I can afford to buy new but find it wasteful for toddlers

rackhampearl · 30/08/2017 21:42

Custard that's a great story.
Made me giggle. I made friends with the neighbouring stall and we pretty much bought all of each other's stuff. She bought my husbands Ralph Lauren shirts for her husband I bought her granddaughters clothes for my daughters. She was great. I'm also a sucker for giving toys away to any cute baby's and kids that approach the stall. Had some perfect indie pants I gave away to this hippy mum who was carrying a baby in a material sling. They're age 1 and so cute! Makes me happy to give too just don't like the cheeky fuckers!
