I've just rung to candle a surveyor about solar panels.

I said I was unwell.

Firstly he said I didn't sound unwell.......dick

And then he said can't your husband deal with the app.?

I said no hes dead...I don't beat about thw bush and hed already annoyed me.

And he said 'oh well we have you down here as Mrs. Shall I change that for you?'

I said no thanks and rung off.

I thought you can use whatever title you want? Could I use Mr if I wanted to (I dont)?

I changed to Mrs a while after marring exH, on separation and subsequent divorce I kept Mrs ExH-name, which I also kept following my marriage to my late-DH and after his death.

He was insensitive in so many ways - presumably because he wanted the sale.

Redsrule · 28/08/2017 15:58

I am thinking of renaming myself the dowager ...

MrsTrebus · 28/08/2017 16:00

You are Mrs if you always were. So if miss d smith marries mr s jones she is Mrs s jones and when widowed Mrs s jones unless she chose others

MrsTrebus · 28/08/2017 16:00

Otherwise

insancerre · 28/08/2017 16:12

What a twat
You should complain and take your business elsewhere

milliemolliemou · 28/08/2017 17:12

OP, he sounds like a twat. I've never changed my name on marriage and have been Ms forever but still get ridiculous enquiries.

Sorry for your loss, and that young lad needs to be told how to deal with people, especially those who have lost their partners.

Floellabumbags · 28/08/2017 17:44

He's a knobhead.

I use Baroness as my title. I'm not a baroness but who's going to argue? Looks great on the Tesco Clubcard.

Notknownatthisaddress · 28/08/2017 18:00

What a fucking arsehole. Hmm

Of COURSE you can still be MRS if your husband dies. I know several women who are still MRS, 5 to 10 years after getting divorced!

Again. What a fucking arsehole. I am raging for you OP! Angry

INeedMoreThanThis · 28/08/2017 18:16

I was not able to get my quote from one of the double glazing salesmen we asked to quote, UNTIL MY HUSBAND WAS PRESENT.

Apparently it is common practice to insist on that. I asked a salesman friend and he was nonplussed I had a problem with it.

The other salesmen I warned that if they pulled that on me to not bother quoting.

INeedMoreThanThis · 28/08/2017 18:19

Oh. And I used to put myself down as 'Lady' for catalogues until I had a hideous experience at the shop of one-off these companies.

They kept calling me Lady Morethanthis and I was too embarrassed to say that I was just a twat and obviously wasn't titled. I deluded myself that they may think I was eccentric gentry.

Betarocker · 28/08/2017 18:26

I had this last week renewing my car insurance online and had to ring the company. 'Oh it says marital status is widowed but we've got you down as Mrs' 'that's right' says me. 'Should it not be Ms?' says poor unsuspecting call handler before I put him right. He was a dick as was your surveyor.

FadedRed · 28/08/2017 18:34

I was going to suggest 'The Dowager Lady Rhino' but you have assumed a much better name, Your Supreme Commandership.

What an arse, I bet he doesn't earn much commission, if that is his usual style.

I'd be inclined to find the manager/head office/CEO and complain.

formerbabe · 28/08/2017 18:36

Anyone I've ever known who has been widowed still uses 'Mrs'.

Charliegirl1974 · 28/08/2017 18:41

Sorry you had to deal with such an insensitive idiot.

DM was on a marketing list as Reverend! She never bothered to change it as any calls or mail referring to Rev. X were marketing rubbish.

fourquenelles · 28/08/2017 18:51

I am a widow. I am a Mrs. If a salesperson had said what that pratt said to you I would have reached through the phone and he'd be wearing his balls as earrings.
