Personally I have never been a big fan of going away for the sun effectively which is what so many AI travellers do so I don't do it often. I have however done it a couple of times though and like everyone else over indulged. The best one was In Mauritius when the food was mainly fish based which I like. I don't like to over indulge on booze on holiday so that side of it doesn't appeal really. Even on those two holidays I only had wine with Dinner and a couple of drinks after.

To be honest the thought of a chips and burger type all inclusive wouldn't appeal at all.

ragz134 · 28/08/2017 15:15

I've never done AI. It appeals as something to do with kids, but I don't like really hot places. Do cooler climate places do AI?

MsHarry · 30/08/2017 08:26

Reading this thread actually makes me feel a bit sick.

MsHarry · 30/08/2017 08:27

Anyone watch the recent TV programme about Brits on holiday at an AI in Spain? Embarrassing.

Eolian · 30/08/2017 08:33

I've never been on an all inclusive holiday, but I don't think I'd eat (or drink) any more than on a non all-inclusive one tbh. I eat a bit more (and more unhealthily) on holiday than normal, but the fact that the food was already paid for wouldn't make the slightest difference to how much I ate. And ditto with the alcohol. Anyway, I feel crappy if I stuff myself and drink loads for days, and who wants to feel crappy on holiday?

Unihorn · 30/08/2017 08:48

I eat lots, that's why I do AI occasionally. I have bacon, sausage and pastries for breakfast, then pizza or pasta with a cake for lunch and 2 or 3 courses for dinner. I probably have 2 or 3 drinks a day too but not everyday. Except for honeymoon where I was drinking margaritas from 10am.

Holidayhooray · 30/08/2017 08:53

Unihorn

Genie in question.

Whilst you were eating all that food, I'm sure you enjoyed. But the hours in between eating, didn't you feel uncomfortable, bloated and generally a bit yuck, in your swimming gear in a hot country having stuffed yourself?

Holidayhooray · 30/08/2017 08:53

genuine

HolidayTimeAgain · 30/08/2017 08:55

The first few days I tend to overeat and then settle down into a more normal pattern. Usually sick of food by the the last few days and craving something really basic like beans on toast!
I don't drink much but it's nice to be able to have a cocktail or a glass of wine as and when. I make good use of the soft drinks, water and coffee!
Of course it depends on the quality of food and drink on offer!!!
Not all AI places are the same - depends on what you like really.

Unihorn · 30/08/2017 09:00

Holiday
No not really, I just had a sit down after each meal before lying in the sun again. We only do AI every couple of years though. We are normally Disney people. Although we do pay for the dining plan there too - walking ten miles a day tends to help however.

NeverTwerkNaked · 30/08/2017 09:04

No more than usual; but I did enjoy the choice.
A lot of people were just eating as they normally would.
I was a bit shocked by the amount some people were helping themselves too though!

MsHarry · 30/08/2017 09:14

This is what I don't get. Many women in particular are on here saying they need to lose x number of pounds before their holiday. Are they the same people who stuff their faces and lie about all day I wonder. If so, what's the point? I wanted to look and feel my best on holiday. I was self catering and was mindful of swimming every morning as it was too hot to go walking too much, eating fresh fruits and yoghurt for breakfast, salads etc at lunch and dinner with fish or chicken. I love those foods anyway so not a health kick. Th only change for me is that I drink every day on holiday, but only at night and only a few. Each to their own I guess but no sympathy to those who come back complaining of piling gone the weight.

MsHarry · 30/08/2017 09:16

I put on 2 pounds, mainly because of the lack of exercise as I normally walk the dog every day for 45 mins/1hr and am constantly on my feet at home. They were off by the end of the first week home. I would feel awful if I had put on more purely due to being greedy.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 30/08/2017 09:18

I've been on a few all inclusive holidays and certainly overeat for the first few days. Not so much "getting my money's worth" more not being able to choose when there's a marvellous buffet, trying a bit of too many things.
I find after a few days of over indulgence, I crave fish with fruit to follow!

FagAshMIL · 30/08/2017 09:29

bluntness can you pm your resort? It sounds waaaay classier than my elephant stampede AI and didn't know there was such a thing as a non buffet AI

I've eaten loads this holiday. Though only ventured to the afternoon snack bar once as was craving salty chips. Conservative breakfast by AI standards as I'm not into full english but always had eggs of some kind with buttered roll(s) and fruit, sometimes yoghurt. Full course meal, sometimes seconds at lunch and dinner, small dessert most evenings. Beers in the afternoon, a few spirits/cocktails in the evening plus more beer. No wine as can't drink red in the heat, hate white.

On a diet as from yesterday CakeAngryGrin

FagAshMIL · 30/08/2017 09:31

Not sure where the 3 Cake came from. The gods are trying to tell me something perhaps?Grin

JadeT2 · 30/08/2017 09:32

I find non Spanish resorts tend to be better with AI. The resorts I stayed at in Cyprus and Mexico were both very good with plenty of healthy stuff. Breakfast in Mexico was rice and beans for me.

FagAshMIL · 30/08/2017 09:34

Rtft fully now so can see your update blunt

Beevor · 30/08/2017 09:48

And me please blunt ....

paradoxicalInterruption · 30/08/2017 09:58

Only done AI with the kids as the free drinks and ice cream etc and lots of choice were great.

Turkey was best as whole tables of lovely mezze type veg and great bread.

Egypt was a bit of a zoo.

Love a hotel with breakfast though - far too grumpy to go out and find breakfast.
