I saw a lot of people drinking Prosecco at breakfast as there was a big table of it. Bleuugghh.

bloodynoris · 28/08/2017 10:53

I don't tend to eat loads more just have something sweet after every meal what I wouldn't normally do. Have a snack during the day and maybe ice cream. For us it's more about drink not alcohol. My self and my husband both have medical problems which makes us very thirsty or very dry mouth and it saves us a fortune. I would totally recommend all inclusive.

glutoftoms · 28/08/2017 10:57

The biggest downfall for me is the booze. We don't drink in the day, maybe a glass of wine with lunch because we tend to do sporty stuff , but if you're not racking up a big bar bill it's very easy to have another G&T or cocktail before dinner, a bottle of wine or two with food then maybe a digestif.

LadyWithLapdog · 28/08/2017 11:01

I put on weight despite trying to eat sensibly. I drank far more than usual.

The snacks were not crisps at the bar but cakes and coffee. At 4 pm, I think, there was food again at one bar. Mainly if you'd missed lunch as otherwise I don't think you could eat more (burgers, chips, pizza).

The kids soon got bored of cakes and ice cream. Again, not available all day long anyway.

Totally worth it as very relaxing not spending half an hour (+) trying to get them out of the house morning, lunch and evening.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 28/08/2017 11:03

Bloody hell, Bluntness, that is an eye-watering/awe-inspiring number of units per day!

MsHarry · 28/08/2017 11:05

We did this once. I didn't like it. There is so much food and it's tempting to try everything. I tended to stick to egg for breakfast, fish and salad at lunch and meat and salad at night with some rice or chips etc. I didn't enjoy feeling full all the time. I must be weird. Neither of us could drink alcohol in the heat of the day though many did. We didn't get drunk at night either. We probably didn't get our money's worth. Did self catering in a villa this year and much preferred that.

Namechangetempissue · 28/08/2017 11:06

Honestly -not a lot. Less than usual actually. I without fail always come back from holiday weighing less than when I went! I find I'm less inclined to eat in warmer weather or much too busy doing other things. In Florida I lost 1/2 stone as I only ate breakfast and dinner.

Bluelonerose · 28/08/2017 11:07

3 full meals and snacks a day.
Quite gutted me and dh can't drink (medication we are both on) I had 1 cocktail in the evening but poor dh can't touch a drop.
I find it's worth it just for the drinks alone

RonSwansonsMoustache · 28/08/2017 11:07

I don't eat much because I never much of an appetite in the heat. I have three meals but we never do the snacks in-between which I think helps, plus the desserts never look that appealing so I just stick to the savoury stuff.

WooWooSister · 28/08/2017 11:08

Usually normal breakfast; salad for lunch then three courses at dinner and a late-night snack which ends up almost like another meal.
It's the late snacking and the amazing desserts that I struggle to resist.

I've only ever been to budget AI where the food was pretty bad so I only ate what was needed to stay alive. OTH I drank LOTS of wine so probably made up the cost on that.

Wdigin2this · 28/08/2017 11:11

I've only really done all inclusive on cruises, and I always do the same thing at the buffets. Fill half my plate with salad, only allow myself two courses, usually a fish starter and mains, only allow myself to go back for seconds, twice per week......and eat slowly!!!!

Bravas · 28/08/2017 11:11

Not sure about weight but I've put 3cm on around my waist in a week. I don't normally eat much during the day and rarely drink. On holiday I didn't pig out but had 3 good size meals a day, dessert after lunch and dinner and a few lagers and cocktails a day. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and doing something different from my norm.

expatinscotland · 28/08/2017 11:13

Loads! The only AI's I've been on are cruises, though, and haven't bothered to buy the alcohol package so alcohol you can bring on quite limited and drink maybe a couple of cocktails and glasses of wine the whole week.

But food! Ooo, lots and lots and lots. Big breakfast - eggs, bacon, waffles or pancakes, hashbrowns. Lunch - burger and chips, or burrito and rice, big, huge lunch. An ice cream later. 3 course sit down dinner. Possibly a nightcap of a slider or huge cookie.

Scoleah · 28/08/2017 11:14

We normally stuff ourselves for the first few days, but then food gets repetitive and you feel bloated with all the oils etc in the food! So normally cut down a bit then, but the Snack bars are my fav, crisps burgers chips all day, and a cheeky ice cream after! & you can't beat the resorts that serve up pancakes or chocolate covered waffles... ok that note, I'm going to look for next years holiday now Grin

DakotaFanny · 28/08/2017 11:14

I put on 20lbs in two weeks proud, not proud

Bluntness100 · 28/08/2017 11:15

Is your liver waving the white flag of surrender by the end?

Not really no. Grin I have to admit If we stay in resort we do drink steadily all day. Champagne with brekkie, cocktails in the jacuzzi, wine with meals, nothing that we are drunk strangely enough though, it's weird how much you can drink over a long period of time.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 28/08/2017 11:18

Just the same amount I eat when I'm at hope, I drink more alcohol however not excessively.

WildwestWind · 28/08/2017 11:31

More than at home!
Omelette with tomatoes and mushrooms for breakfast
Lunch is usually salad stuff with fish then probably an ice cream for pudding. Glass of white wine or a large beer.
Vodka martini to take up to the room to get ready for dinner then another one in the bar.
Dinner is usually soup then meat with some kind of potato. Cheese for pudding and a glass of wine to drink.
Didn't put on weight but swam lots of lengths every morning. I'm overweight and am trying to keep up the swimming at home, whilst addressing my normal eating and drinking.

Just back from an all inclusive- really handy IMO poolside for the constant drinking (not necessarily alcohol) in the heat, kids having ice creams and such.

Meal wise we had full breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday, all cooked and a lot of it.

I put it down to it being one week a year and then worry about it when I get home Grin

KurriKurri · 28/08/2017 11:44

A lot more than I normally would - eg

at home breakfast = toast
on holiday breakfast = cereal, croisants, juice, fruit, yogurt, eggs

ditto lunch - and dinner - I eat cooked and have dessert whereas at home I would just have a sandwich for lunch and I don't usually have dessert - just an apple or something.

I like to get my money's worth Grin + I go on cruises sometimes and the food is just there all the time, plus ice cream help yourself machines, coffees and cookies etc up until late at night.

I try to compensate by walking and swimming more and always using stair instead of lifts (I still put on weight though !)

Bluntness100 · 28/08/2017 11:48

I think the other huge benefit of ai is you pay up front. So no big bill at the end of the holiday and you don't spend each day thinking fucking hell fifteen quid for s cocktail or a fiver for a Diet Coke. You can have what you want without thinking about the cost of what you're having.

BunnyNeeded · 28/08/2017 11:49

Bloody hell Bluntness! Grin

I've only had alcohol for breakfast once - champagne for DH's birthday breakfast - both felt dreadful for the rest of the day.

Have never done AI since children, but thinking about it after this thread.
