Worried about parcel of acid posted through my door

Returned from holiday to a Royal Mail parcel, small enough to fit through letter box. It had my address but a different name and my DS name as surname. Hence opening before realising it wasn't for us. None of my immediate neighbours have this name.
The parcel is a bottle of acid, about the size of a calpol bottle. With instructions for a face peel. It states you put this on your face and it's like severe sunburn and the skin on your face peels.
AIBU to be a bit suspicious of this package given the acid attacks that seem to be on the increase and ring the police or would you return to sender and assume they got the address wrong and not give it another thought. The sinister part of my brain is wondering if someone knew I was away and intended to get the parcel.

Seriously, you need to read the sizzling threads on S&B 😂...have you heard of glycolic acid peels?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 26/08/2017 20:46

Ok Hmm

FindingNemoandDory · 26/08/2017 20:50

It is weird! Most likely a scam or mistaken but I hope you get to the bottom of it for peace of mind

timeisnotaline · 26/08/2017 20:54

Doris Grin. I have acid in my night face products. Off to check if I'm a gangster or terrorist. What do I look for exactly?

Flybye · 26/08/2017 20:57

Doris Grin

Make me piss that

Flybye · 26/08/2017 20:57

Not literally

YesMadamDeputySpeaker · 26/08/2017 21:30

To be fair, there has been an increase in acid attacks lately, as the OP mentioned - so I don't think it's unreasonable that she might be worried the sender has more sinister ulterior motives.

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 26/08/2017 21:35

I don't know if OP is saying that this appears to be a threat rather than an actual attempted attack. That's what would worry me, not the item itself but the message. But that's just how I interpret it.

As others have said probably a mix up, it's a common ingredient or part of skincare. But I can see how unsettling that would be given the acid attack spate.

I really don't follow!
What is sinister about smoothing and buffing??

it's about as threatening as someone asking you if you like vinegar on chips!

SkylarFalls · 26/08/2017 21:41

If I ( I DON'T !!! but if I did..) wanna scare someone and imply I would acid attack them, would I really send some vitamin C, or a takeaway sachet of vinegar, or a face peel…. and HOPE they made the MASSIVE leap…..

… or would I just post a note saying "watch out for acid attacks"
hmmm

AtSea1979 · 26/08/2017 22:11

Sorry for delay. Ok so I was being OTT. Just seems a little odd to me and also can't believe people would choose to burn their faces off

Yeah, that's a skin peel. Nothing sinister.

Reppin · 26/08/2017 22:22

You could have just googled. It is TCA, very common for wrinkles

AtSea1979 · 26/08/2017 22:23

Ok just seemed so odd to come home to, I thought I'd share. Will google now

Slimthistime · 26/08/2017 23:08

10%? I'm another who would never do a peel but as far as know that's pretty high. Dnt people pay a lot for that?

Don't put it anywhere near your skin.

Coconutspongexo · 26/08/2017 23:14

It would be a shit acids attack really wouldn't it if it was considering you're not going to splash something on your face you didn't order.

It's skin care.

VeryCunningStunt · 26/08/2017 23:22

You could have just googled

I wonder how you get to 'must start an AIBU' before a bit of basic googling? Grin

Not new, just baffled that so many people choose the method of lesser efficiency when sourcing information Grin

Maybe it is an acid attack by a particularly lazy gangster. I can't be bothered to throw it in your face, I'll just post it to you with instructions for you to rub it on your own face

It could catch on - post guns to your enemies and hope they shoot themselves Grin

DorisDangleberry · 26/08/2017 23:53

I got a paper cut from an envelope I opened today - maybe it was a local thug trying to stab me, but couldn't tear himself away from Match of the Day

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/08/2017 00:04

Where was it sent from?. I received a rubbish obviously fake Michael Kors "leather" bracelet from an address in China which I did not order.

It really worried me but this explains why it was sent. Possibly your skin peel was sent for the same reason.
