To not understand why you would have a "bar" in your house?!

Can someone enlighten me as to the point of having a bar in your house? They look incredibly tacky to me and I genuinely don't get the point of them. Why not just store alcohol somewhere and have an entertaining space instead?

I would LOVE a bar in my house!!!! The ultimate would be a proper bar in my garden.

My friend's parents had one in the 70s, I thought it was the epitome of style especially as they kitted it out with a pear shaped ice bucket, flamingo twizzle sticks and all manner of different-coloured straws ... i think i need one in my house.

laiste

We are probably the same vintage as my dad had his drinks cabinet and the hostess trolley.

Remember the sweet trolley in restaurants? Grin

It is a tad tacky op but hey why not

We have a drinks trolley. Spirits on the bottom and our record player on top!

No space for a bar though I know someone who has built a bar, chairs and a table in their garden (from pallets) and it looks awful.

Ex BF in Canada's dad had a basement bar with pool table. Was great fun. I would have one if we had space

Stressedoutandfedup · 26/08/2017 19:34

Maybe I am just being miserable then! Brittbugs my ex next door neighbours did that also out of pallets!

My neighbour built a wooden one in his garden. It was fab, looked like the tuck shop on I'm a celeb!

Back in my twenties I had a tiki bar... I bloody loved that thing.

Now... I have to admit I bought a zinc covered bar on a shop in Abu Dhabi when I lived there. When I bought it, it had its own area near the windows which overlooked the corniche: I have great memories of me and my friends drinking cosmos and watching the city at night. Then in Dubai it was put next to the window with the view out to the Burj Al Arab across the water. Again, fab memories. Now it is n my kitchen acting as a breakfast bar/fizz/wine bar/ I still love it. We are building an extension with a new kitchen area and it will feature heavily there.

it is totally unique - never seen anything like it. I will love it no matter what anyone thinks.

I also think they are a bit tacky, but suspect I have rhe modern equivalent, which is a large cupboard in the living room whose only function is to store booze. In there we have a large under counter sized fridge, a wine rack that holds about fifty bottles and some shelves which hold soft drinks and spirits. Whenever we have friends over, which is quite regular, they just shove what they bring in the booze cupboard amd help themselves all night, no standing on ceremony.

There is also a sideboard in the living room which holds the glasses, so you basically never have to leave the room Grin

Moved in to our home just under three years ago (that's 3, not 30). First thing we did was demolish the bar in the corner of the dining room. I reckon they built it in the 80s, judging by the decor and wiring. It even had a neon light Grin

We've got a bar. Well, its a big cupboard really, with space for glasses, bottles etc. And a wine fridge. We like cocktails and it makes sense to have somewhere to keep all the kit together. Hadn't crossed my mind it was tacky, just sensible gin storage.
I'd love a real 1920's one
