To not understand why you would have a "bar" in your house?!

Can someone enlighten me as to the point of having a bar in your house? They look incredibly tacky to me and I genuinely don't get the point of them. Why not just store alcohol somewhere and have an entertaining space instead?

We have one outside with a fridge - great for summer parties.

innagazing · 26/08/2017 15:04

If you like to drink draught beer at home, and have the space, then it seems very logical
Someone I know has a beautiful bespoke wooden chalet at the bottom of their garden built especially as a bar. They do a lot of entertaining at home.
It's great, and I'm well envious!

My parents had a piece of furniture called a 'cocktail bar' (drinks cupboard) in our front room in the 50s. Stocked with all kinds of bottles. My DF only drank the occasional beer and DM a glass of sherry at Christmas. I think they thought it was 'posh'Grin

Hate to be a pedant but there's a typo in your title OP... wouldn't It's spelled wouldn't - there's and n't at the end

I have one downstairs in my ladycave * where i also keep: sewing machine, dartboard, poker/Scrabble table.

  • not a euphemism.

It is purple studded velvet with zebra-print highstools. I love it.

Wow thecolonel, getting PA and snarky about SPAG is normally considered bad form here.

Circumlocutor · 26/08/2017 15:13

Frightfully common indeed OP. We have gone for the far classier option of having a bar in the garden.

I'd bloody love a pub in a shed in my garden.

Especially cos then I could sing "pub shack baybeee" to the tune of Love Shack Grin

Circumlocutor · 26/08/2017 15:18

She's saying the OP's title should read 'To not understand why you wouldn't have a bar in your house'.

That's probably because TheColonel's punctuation is unspeakable Back Grin

When we renovate the heating system in our house and put radiators in the basement I am definitely going to have a really tacky retro bar in the music room down there!

Friends just did that - it's brilliant :-)

Circumlocutor · 26/08/2017 15:20

Commonly known as joke I believe. Come on, it's not that cryptic!

My DH had a bar in his house growing up. It was a 60s/70s thing.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 26/08/2017 15:22

I have an original early 1970s cocktail cabinet. It is either bloody hideous or a thing of beauty, depending on your taste. I inherited it from FIL, who gave it to me years ago because I loved it so much. It has a mirrored section inside and can be lit up. Sadly the original cocktail picks were taken out when DH was little and we have never found them

WombatStewForTea · 26/08/2017 15:25

Our friends built a 'pub' in their orchard from a huge shed. It's awesome..pumps, ice machine the lot. They do throw a fair few parties and it's great cos you don't have to face tidying up the next day like if it's in your house - you can shut the door and forget for a few days.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 26/08/2017 15:25

My friend has a pub in her garden

I am very jealous...but my liver would not be my friend if we had one

StarlightExpress5 · 26/08/2017 15:25

Circumlocutor I love your pub Envy

DorisDangleberry · 26/08/2017 15:26

Not only do we have a bar in our house, when we put it in we also installed an old man who sits at the end nursing a pint all day whilst reading the Racing Post. Definitely worth the extra as he adds atmosphere. We occasionally feed him peanuts and cheese sandwiches, apart from that he is maintenance free

Circumlocutor · 26/08/2017 15:28

Sadly, it's not actually mine Starlight Grin

Epic as inflatable pub would be!
