Apparently at the weigh ins they have been calling each other names like dog shite.
Mature!
I know it's a bit of showmanship but aibu to find the macho posturing annoying?

ShatnersWig · 26/08/2017 10:39

The amount of media coverage this had had over the last few weeks has been ridiculous, quite frankly.

Whisky2014 · 26/08/2017 10:41

I cant stand conor. The way he was chewing g right up in mayweathers face. All the "big talk". So I was going to put a bet on mayweather but my friend just said he is a woman beater he can get to fuck as well. There's no title for this fight so it purely is about money. What a farce. The "money belt"...God!

LaurieMarlow · 26/08/2017 10:54

God, it's absolutely depraved. I've no idea why people find this entertaining, they're just a pair of savages.

Quimby · 26/08/2017 11:12

I am still 100% gonna watch it

A nice early knockout or a prolonged beating of mcgregor would suit me fine

But it's not a sporting contest that has any legitimacy, it's a spectacle that's just entertainment.

Crunchymum · 26/08/2017 11:16

This just goes to show the power of the media.

It's set to be the most watched PPV fight ever?

One of the dudes isn't even a boxer???

It's absolutely pathetic and I for one can't wait for it to be over.

Kindoline · 26/08/2017 12:02

No he isn't a boxer. But he is a world class MMA. They are both at the top of their fields (well Mayweather is retired). And both their careers share a common theme (hurt someone and win money/belt/title)

It's hardly as if Usain Bolt is going up against him is it.

Quimby · 26/08/2017 12:32

No but it is like bolt entering the marathon or fedderer thinking he can take the worlds best squash player

Vanillamanilla1 · 26/08/2017 12:37

I love boxing especially big fights like this but I really didn't stay up for this its on too late 😢

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 26/08/2017 12:38

Mcgregor's just a gobshite isn't he? Annoying but not a vile serial criminal like Mayweather.

I don't understand the fascination in watching two people beat each other until one passes out???? Wtf!

SockQueen · 26/08/2017 12:57

I'll never understand boxing. I once heard a neurosurgeon say that it's a competition to give the other person a head injury serious enough for them to fall over. He drew a comparison to if there was a competition to kick each other until someone's leg broke it would be seen as barbaric, so why is boxing ok?

This particular one is just extra money-grabbing and silly.

PerryPerryThePlatypus · 26/08/2017 13:01

Not a fan of boxing but I hope McGregor punches the wife beater to a pulp.

DomesticDisgrace · 26/08/2017 15:22

It's satire/parody with McGregor. I love him, the cheeky little bollox!

NoParticularPattern · 26/08/2017 15:29

Eugh. Mayweather has paid off the ref and the judges as per usual. So I imagine he will do the usual of winding his opponent up "behind the ref's back" in plain sight but he's been paid enough to not notice and then waiting til he's too wound up to be any sort of useful opposition. McGregor won't take a lot of winding up so I'd be surprised if we see more than a couple of rounds.

Won't live up to the hype- there's not even a title on the line. Mayweather is only fighting because of the massive pay day he's making from it and because he knows he's paid enough to win. McGregor is desperately hoping to win just so he can go on about it for years. When you bear in mind he's not even unbeaten in his own sport, never mind professional boxing (don't think it counts when you've never done it before!!), it doesn't look good for him. But hes being paid $100mil just to get in the ring so hey, all good!

I just wish they wouldn't be such muppets. Not all boxers are such foul mouthed pillocks, but then not all of them have fathers who are convicted of drugs trafficking either.

Somerford · 26/08/2017 15:35

No but it is like bolt entering the marathon or fedderer thinking he can take the worlds best squash player

This sums it up well. Boxing and MMA are both combat sports but that's all they have in common. In much the same way that cricket and baseball are both played with a bat. Whoever crosses over into their opponent's sport will lose.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 26/08/2017 15:36

Yabu, you clearly don't know anything about the sport.

PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 15:38

No, I don't get it either Confused

And how is it news?? Sports news maybe, but nothing has actually happened yet Hmm

Anon8604 · 26/08/2017 15:43

I'm not a boxing fan, but all this trash talk strikes me as a bit weird and almost undermining of the sport as it seems like something I'd associate with professional wrestling (i.e. scripted), rather than a real sport.

I know v little about the sport though so maybe I am BU to comment on it.

annielouise · 26/08/2017 16:23

I saw a short clip advertising it and thought both sounded a bit thick even though both were trying to sound intelligent and a profound. McGregor sounds stupid like Beckham. He tripped over his words.

To me, just aggressive male posturing - my balls are bigger than your balls, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah!

LorLorr2 · 26/08/2017 16:27

Really really not into it.I think you just get it or you don't. All seems a bit embarrassing from my pov!

TSSDNCOP · 26/08/2017 16:31

radio 6 live were covering the weigh in last night. I don't know who their boxing expert is but god that dude's funny. Couldn't give a shit about the fighters; but the interview with Chris Eubanks was comedy gold.

Fwiw, Chris is backing Conor. So he's doomer than doomed then 🤣

PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 16:36

They both are unsavoury characters and I have to be honest, I really really resent the money they are both going to make no matter who wins.
And I find it pathetic and worrying that there are so many people, apparently, who want to see this shit.

David Haye spoke about the fight this morning on BBC news and sounded articulate and what he said was really quite informative (for somebody like me). But then again, he did get out of boxing before his brain was mush.

StarlightExpress5 · 26/08/2017 16:39

Yanbu, it's pathetic and wtf the young chap was shouting in the others face just wearing boxershorts Confused

Nancy91 · 26/08/2017 16:42

I follow UFC more than boxing, so I'm routing for Conor. Although he really is the underdog!

You know that they HAVE to do all this trash talking to hype up the fight and get people interested. It's a huge PR stunt. Nobody wants to watch a conference where to two fighters are having a friendly chat. It's a fight not a Disney film.

It's clearly not your cup of tea but these fighters are both hugely talented in their chosen sports.
