Just moved in and flooring in kitchen is vynl but isn't even stuck down anymore..
Falling over it all the time..
Is it the councils duty to replace it?
Quick enough to take the rent but happy to leave us tripping over loose flooring.

well, leave it unstuck and stop falling over it then. We've had big holes in the carpet for over 20 years, we just cover them up or walk around them

No dont rip it up They could accuse you of damaging it.

Namechangetempissue · 24/08/2017 17:34

Double check your tenancy.
Keep an eye out for lino on free sites or Facebook-there are often off cuts or old but decent going very cheap or free. Or stick a wanted ad up? In the mean time, patch it up so you are not tripping over it and replace when you can afford it.

My sister had to have concrete in some rooms for a good while as she had an entire 3 bed house to fit (no flooring at all). She got some cheap rag rugs from Ikea and made do -it was fine!

Jojo267 · 24/08/2017 17:37

I've been in previous houses and all have had the floor down in kitchen /bathroom from the council.
I guess they thought they could save a few £££ by leaving it like it is

OP posts:
Jojo267 · 24/08/2017 17:38

I have no carpets anywhere at minute need to save for them

Stressalot42 · 24/08/2017 17:39

How are they saving £££££ by not sticking the flooring down?

You've got no money and lots to buy so stop making a drama out of a simple issue and stick it down!! It'll take ten minutes cost not a lot and issue solved.

Auspiciouspanda · 24/08/2017 17:40

I did my HA bathroom with these stick on tiles from b&m. They might do something similar for the kitchen you could get?

HelenaDove · 24/08/2017 17:41

Do not rip it up and replace it yourself without asking them first. Someone i know got into trouble with her HA for doing that without their permission.

Namechangetempissue · 24/08/2017 17:42

I'm absolutely sure you will get incredibly cheap or free vinyl if you ask around on social media or sites like gumtree -I see it all the time. Give it a try!

HelenaDove · 24/08/2017 17:42

Panda..........that looks nice.

Barbiessharpfeet · 24/08/2017 17:42

It's 9.99 for the adhesive spray.

Theweasleytwins · 24/08/2017 17:42

B and m do rolls of flooring, quite reasonable I think?

Jojo267 · 24/08/2017 17:45

That floor looks nice ..
They saving £££ because something they probably have a duty to replace and they haven't to save a few quid or because they can't he arsed

OP posts:
Ellisandra · 24/08/2017 17:47

Check the rules in your area.
But yes to walking on concrete until you can afford flooring.

Ellisandra · 24/08/2017 17:47

You can't say they probably have a duty to replace!
Check the rules.

nergin · 24/08/2017 17:48

I've lived in three different councils and flooring is always the responsibility of the tenant. I'm pretty happy with that as a deal in exchange for having full control of how to decorate and a secure cheap rent. Have been able to get cheap offcuts of vinyl from independent shops, I'm sure something like Freecycle could help you out if you can't afford anything at all.

Jojo267 · 24/08/2017 17:48

Normally they rip all flooring up so i guess if it wasn't their responsibility it would still be on the floor

OP posts:
Copperbeech33 · 24/08/2017 17:48

and they haven't to save a few quid or because they can't he arsed that doesn't make any sense, council workers don't pay out of their own pocket or do repairs in their own time , you know.

Namechangetempissue · 24/08/2017 17:52

I think that is unfair Jojo.
Budgets ARE tight -it isn't because they "can't be bothered". Tenants in most areas have a responsibility to fit new flooring if required. It isn't an emergency situation, there are options including temporarily sticking down the floor which would take minutes.
I know it is tough to stretch a budget to include flooring but the council pot isn't endless sadly.
Good luck in your new home!

Manclife · 24/08/2017 17:52

The OP is the reason councils normally remove floor coverings before renting (now matter how nice/new it is). If it's annoying you feel free to remove it.

Bluelonerose · 24/08/2017 17:54

Council here provide flooring in kitchen & bathroom and downstairs loo. But it is just basic laminate that is superglued to the concrete.
I've just popped laminate on top coz I didn't like it. It's probably different rules for different areas

Viviennemary · 24/08/2017 17:54

It's usually the tenants responsibility AFAIK. But if it's been left in a dangerous state you could try asking them to replace it. It's certainly worth a try.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 24/08/2017 17:56

Flooring should be tenants own responsibility. If you're. Not happy with the loose vinyl the rip it up and live with the concrete until you save up.
