AIBU or just daft to be alarmed by 2 calls from Doctors practice?

Hello dear Mumsnetters. Will be as brief as I can. I've not been feeling great for the last few months. Knackered and have lost a bit of weight. Haven't thought to much about it, though various friends and loved ones have said I'm looking pretty shit (Gawd bless 'em!) TBH I should eat more fruit and veg and get to bed at a decent hour. Though even if I do, I still wake up at stupid o'clock and then can't sleep. (Being on MN doesn't help either Grin. I managed finally to get a dr's appointment on Monday. He prodded about for a bit (abdomen) and I'm now going for a scan on Sunday. Also had blood tests this morning and as I was on a late shift at work today have only just heard the 2 VM messages from the gp and the receptionist asking me to come in and see them asap. Are they just being fantastically on the ball? I'm panicking now and would like your opinions. Just wizzed out and bought wine so feeling slowly 'better' Blush.

I'm a gp and will often call about blood tests for various reasons, not necessarily serious ones. If I can't get through I usually leave a note for the receptionist to try again later while I'm seeing afternoon/evening patients.
Two calls doesn't necessarily mean it's anything nasty, don't worry.

And thank you CantChoose xx

Do you know what kind of blood tests they took? I ask because I had something similar happen recently. I'd only had the bloods taken that morning and while coming home from that got a call to come to the hospital for a scan (GP had only referred me the day before) and by the time that was done it was late afternoon. Got home and realised my phone was on silent and I'd missed calls from GP and a VM. One of the blood tests was abnormal (D-Dimer) so she told me to go straight to A&E and after hours of waiting around and more tests everything was absolutely fine.

It was one rushed, scary day and I kept freaking out at the speed things were being done but I think I was just lucky that the hospital had a cancellation to fit me in that day for the scan. So, the point of my post is.....it could be fine and just something really simple. Hopefully you get an answer first thing tomorrow.

FullOfHope is everything ok?

Teddy7878 · 24/08/2017 09:21

I had a whole range of blood tests done and a couple of days later received 2 voicemails from reception stating that I need to make an appt to speak to a GP about my results. I was an absolute wreck thinking I had cancer or something. Turns out the ALT levels on my liver function test were a little bit high and they wanted to monitor it and then send me for a liver scan (which was normal when I had it done).

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 24/08/2017 09:26

Blood samples get sent off at 10am and 2pm at my surgery and I get them the next day so they can do quick turn around. When pregnant I had the results within 2hrs (I had a pregnancy condition that needed monitoring) so results can be quick.

My drs will call if they need to discuss small things and if I miss a call they will call back.
I would just relax and see what they say when you call them back!

Hope all is ok and nothing to panic over.

fullofhope03 · 24/08/2017 18:15

Good evening all - Just got in from appt at doctor's so thought I'd update you.
I have an abnormally high white blood count and slighty raised cholesterol level (5.5 - it should be under 5). Will go for more blood tests in 2 weeks just to see how the white bld cell count thing is doing and to hospital on Sunday morning for the ultra sound scan. GP also has said I'm to go for an x-ray too.
He seemed to be relaxed and didn't mention the 'C' word thank Christ, so feel much better. I'm a bloody idiot though, because I was so relieved by the lack of 'C' word talk, that I didn't ask questions and didn't even say how scared I'd been. Anyway, I want to thank ALL of you once again for responding to my post. I've been so touched and you really did help me in my 'knickers-in-a-twist' hour of need. You're all FAB. Halo Star Flowers Cake Wine Smile xxxxx

That's good. Glad you're feeling better. I suffer with anxiety and it's awful worrying about something. Good luck with the rest of your tests x
