AIBU or just daft to be alarmed by 2 calls from Doctors practice?

Hello dear Mumsnetters. Will be as brief as I can. I've not been feeling great for the last few months. Knackered and have lost a bit of weight. Haven't thought to much about it, though various friends and loved ones have said I'm looking pretty shit (Gawd bless 'em!) TBH I should eat more fruit and veg and get to bed at a decent hour. Though even if I do, I still wake up at stupid o'clock and then can't sleep. (Being on MN doesn't help either Grin. I managed finally to get a dr's appointment on Monday. He prodded about for a bit (abdomen) and I'm now going for a scan on Sunday. Also had blood tests this morning and as I was on a late shift at work today have only just heard the 2 VM messages from the gp and the receptionist asking me to come in and see them asap. Are they just being fantastically on the ball? I'm panicking now and would like your opinions. Just wizzed out and bought wine so feeling slowly 'better' Blush.

Yep if the labs find something significantly off in the blood results they will phone them to the surgery so it is possible it is related to the results but it could be something like anaemia, diabetes etc so don't panic. It could equally be that they want another test done or that they had gone astray.

Phone first thing in the morninrg

slartibartfastsfjords · 23/08/2017 21:12

I'm going against the grain and think you should be worried.

Really not helpful! Why would it help for the OP to just be worried, tonight, just in case there's a problem, when she can't find out until tomorrow anyway? Hmm

fullofhope03 · 23/08/2017 21:18

I hope you're all is well with you now MrsSthe3rd Flowers

Try not to worry, they've obviously found something but it may just be that you're anaemic x

lougle · 23/08/2017 21:20

You don't need to be too worried, because if it was critical, they would have tracked you down with the police if necessary (quite seriously). I have known lab staff from the hospital to drive to someone's house and knock their door before, when their clotting levels were so badly deranged that they need immediate admission to intensive care. So if you needed to be told, they wouldn't just leave you a couple of messages. However, the fact that they have left you messages should be taken seriously and followed up in the morning.

Nestofvipers · 23/08/2017 21:21

Try not to worry and just give them a call in the morning.

I think if it was anything which had to be dealt with before tomorrow, your surgery would either have asked the out of hours GP to call you today too, or they'd have had someone come to your house and put a note through your door asking you to go to hospital today (with a referral letter so that the hospital would know why you were there when you got there). Because neither of these things have happened I think you should try not to worry tonight and give them a call in the morning.

Whatever it is, I hope you're feeling better soon.

Nestofvipers · 23/08/2017 21:23

X posted with lougle.

And yes if it was really critical they would go as far as involving the police to find you today.

KirstyLaura · 23/08/2017 21:32

I don't think health professionals always appreciate the panic a simple missed phone call can cause! At least you only have to wait until the morning, best wishes to you Flowers

fullofhope03 · 23/08/2017 21:37

Good heavens! I never knew that the police are sometimes involved in getting hold of patients! Certainly learn something new every day!
And thank you again to all of you who have posted - I really appreciate this Smile xx

I am a worrier so I'd pop down for opening tomorrow just so I could find out. Hope it is just a repeat test you need or something Flowers

Leavingonajet · 23/08/2017 21:40

I had a phone pretty quickly from GP after feeling really shit and knackered for a few months, it was a vit d shortage and easily treated. It could be anything so I would try not to worry too much at the moment if possible.

derenstar · 23/08/2017 21:51

Not quite police territory and I really don't meant to frighten you - my sister once had the nurse turn up at her door in the evening of the same day she had gone to her GP, complaining of tiredness and shortness of breath. She had some bloods taken and went back to work but missed a couple of calls from her surgery that afternoon. Turns out she had a blood clot in her leg and was at great risk of a pulmonary embolism. Were it not for the nurse showing up at her door and insisting that she go to A&E there and then, she probably wouldn't have survived the night. Still gives me the chills thinking about it.

OP, I truly hope yours turns out to be nothing of substance but if for nothing else but your own piece of mind, follow this up asap.

Justaboy · 23/08/2017 21:55

I had this once. Had very odd headaches was asked for an MRI head scan. Couple of days later message left on mobile "Hello this is Doctor Jones's secretary he wants to see you Urgently first thing on Monday morning".

As this was a Friday so no contact all weekend. Tried everything to keep my mind of it came the Monday morn it went like!.

"Hello Mr Justaboy, needed to see you urgently as I'm off to a Golf tournament rather unexpectedly so i only have today to see patients!.

As to your scan all clear your fine";!!!!!

Grrrr!!!

I seem to remember uttering a few choice words on the matter;!

IHaveCausedConfusionAndDelay · 23/08/2017 21:58

I had a blood test a few weeks ago in the morning. By 4pm that afternoon I'd been back to the dr's after they got my results and been sent over to the hospital for a blood transfusion (I was severely anaemic). I got myself into a right tizz about it, convinced it must be more than just anaemia for them to be so quick on the ball but it really was just that.

I feel much better now also.

OurMiracle1106 · 23/08/2017 22:05

If they had found something life threatening they would have tried more than twice and left a voicemail to go to a n e

If anything has come back it's probably something fairly minor such as iron or b12 but that does need treating.
Try not to worry tonight and enjoy some Wine

fullofhope03 · 23/08/2017 22:07

OMG - That's appalling Justaboy Shock xx

OP posts:
TroysMammy · 23/08/2017 22:11

Try not to worry overnight but contact the surgery first thing in the morning. GP's can mark a request for an urgent blood test in the morning and the lab ring the surgery with the results late afternoon.

Hope it's something simple that the GP needs to speak to you about.

fullofhope03 · 23/08/2017 22:14

Ihavecausedconfusion so they were on the ball. Very happy you're feeling much better now. xx

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 23/08/2017 22:18

I had a blood test at about 2pm and was contacted by the out of hours surgery to go straight to a&me at about 7pm.

I was severely anaemia and had a very low blood count of about 4.6 so admitted for transfusion. (5 units)

Coincidently discovered that I also have diabetes Sad despite losing over 6 stone and in normal weight range. I think that was more of a shock than the anaemia as I've always been slightly anaemic.

The frustrating part is I am losing weight and spurred on to do so as strong family history of diabetes both type 1&2. Oh well. I'm on medication now. Slow release metformin as normal metformin gave me terrible diarrhoea.

Good luck with the results.

horsesforcorses · 23/08/2017 22:44

Seems really quick for results. Hope all ok tomorrow.

Rachie1986 · 23/08/2017 22:53

Hoping everything is ok OP. Try and not worry x

fullofhope03 · 23/08/2017 23:04

Thank you once again lovely people for posting Flowers
Will find out tomorrow, am sure it won't be as grim as I initially in my panicked state thought, xxx

Ollivander84 · 23/08/2017 23:10

I had similar, mine was low neutrophils, also happened when I was anaemic. Also when the samples were wrong and I needed a repeat

If it was really urgent you would have an ambulance at your door or a doctor banging on the door! My dad was quite surprised to see an ambulance turn up for him after some blood results and insisted on locking the pub up first Hmm

Keel · 23/08/2017 23:11

Hope all goes well tomorrow. I had similar with blood tests and then call backs. Someone had dropped the blood sample so it needed repeating.
