To be so nervous for the gcse results tomorrow?

My dd is collecting her results tomorrow. I'm so nervous for her, probably more than her. She has worked so hard and studied hard that I'm so worried this new grading system will mess it up for her. She was a prefect and the school just rang to ask her to be in the press photos, but what if she's not got the grades? What kind of photo will that be? This 1-9 grading system seems to be much harder than the old GCSEs. She said there was lots of stuff on the maths paper that hadn't even been taught! She needs 6 bs including maths and a 6 in English to go to her chosen college. I'm so nervous for her. Tell me I'm not the only one? I've spent the day telling her how proud we are of her whatever the results. That grades are no measure of your worth as a person.

The school seemed to tell them that this was the most important exams and had put so much pressure on the kids. I've been telling her it's not the end of the world if she doesn't get the results she wants.

I understand your angst, but you have no control over the actual results. Try not to stress too much. Be supportive no matter what the outcome.

Ollycat · 23/08/2017 18:33

They invite people with good grades to be in the photo! Obv her school may be different but I would view this as a positive sign.

Fresh8008 · 23/08/2017 18:35

Surely the school only picks children that will do well to go in for the photo shoots? The head has probably already seen the results just cant say what they are and knows she has done well.

ReinettePompadour · 23/08/2017 18:35

The press photos here are for the top achieving students so straight A students or as close to straight As as possible. I would take that as a positive and that shes done really well (schools got the results today).

Mummyme1987 · 23/08/2017 18:35

I also told her no-one ever asks about your GCSEs after age 20 anyway. So as long as she can get into a college somewhere it will all be forgotten with a level results.

Will the school already know the results hence asking her to be in the photo shoot ie the typical jumping up and down for you photo?

Mummyme1987 · 23/08/2017 18:36

Really? I thought it was just because she's a prefect. I didn't realise the school knew the results already. Aren't they in sealed envelopes?

For joy*

Fresh8008 · 23/08/2017 18:37

Schools get told the results the day before.

recklessgran · 23/08/2017 18:39

Don't worry OP - the school got the results today and already know your daughter's results! It's the school that put the results in the envelopes. Think you're going to be a proud mummy tomorrow!

Mummyme1987 · 23/08/2017 18:39

Phew! So relieved I'm crying

Schools get the results the day before. We print them out and put them in the envelopes for the kids to pick up. If she's been asked in for the press photo then she'll be one of the best in the year group. Try not to worry!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/08/2017 18:40

DH has been in school all day today to discuss results with senior management prior to their being released to students tomorrow: your DD's school will know them already.

Haskell · 23/08/2017 18:41

Schools know the day before- the exams officer has to print out all those results and put them into the envelopes!
They shouldn't be telling people today who they want photos of Hmm what a giveaway! Shock

Fresh8008 · 23/08/2017 18:42

so good news for your dd, but dont spoil the surprise for her.

I'm not telling her what it means.

Try not to stress about it. You know she's worked really hard, that's all that matters. If she doesn't get the grades she needs, there's plenty of options open to her, it really isn't the end of the world, things always work out.

My DS didn't work very hard at all, so not expecting a lot, we're just going to wait and see how he does then work out where to go from there. Worrying doesn't change anything.

FlakeBook · 23/08/2017 19:23

You sound very over-invested in her results, OP - if she doesn't do as well as she hoped she can do them again at any point in her life. Building them up into something life changing and crucial is likely to put her under massive pressure.

PotteringAlong · 23/08/2017 19:27

As everyone else says, school have the results. DH has been in all day sorting stuff! School are not stupid, they're not asking the press to take pictures of crying pupils!

Whatsforu · 23/08/2017 19:29

I can understand your worry particularly as by the sounds of it she worked hard . You sound lovely how you have spoken to her about the results and showing your support.

Abloodybigholeintheground · 23/08/2017 19:36

Wow-how fab for you to secretly know she has done well!! I didn't realise they knew results already but I guess it makes sense.....

Mummyme1987 · 23/08/2017 20:17

I didn't realise either that they knew. I honestly thought the envelopes came sealed!
It was the school that built them up into something life changing. I've been trying to balance that out a bit. she wanted to do well.
