To want my handbag not to be a shit tip

packofshunts · 23/08/2017 14:49

Doesn't seem to matter what handbag I have they always seem to become a mobile skip.

Virtually have to tip the contents out to find anything and can't even use excuse of having young DCs anymore Confused

Am so envious of women who have beautifully organised bags and know where everything is in a trillisecond.

Where am I going wrong? How do I tidy the contents so both purse and bag aren't an embarrassment?

Is it the bag? Is there a fail safe handbag that promises permanent organised lushesness or is there a top secret SOP I need to instigate Grin

YABU. I just leave the house with keys, wallet and phone.

I'm a man though :D

SewButtons · 23/08/2017 14:54

I have a small fabric pouch from uniqlo that I put all my small things in, tampons/hairbands/hand cream/lipstick etc and then Chuck that into my handbag and that'd works pretty well for me. It also has a handle so if I need to I can put the house keys and my bank card in there and then I either clip it onto the buggy or I put it in the nappy bag.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 23/08/2017 14:55

I always unintentionally fill mine, regardless of size. Other than my work handbag, which contains my life, I try to put as little as possible loose in there or always put the same things in pockets or same compartments.

IAmBreakmasterCylinder · 23/08/2017 14:56

1 - don't have a bag bigger than you need
2 - if you need lots of 'bits' keep them in a makeup bag or similar
3 - decide what you are going to do with receipts you want to keep - if you don't need them, bin them as soon as you can so they never make it into the bag (I've got a purse with a pocket on the outside so I stick receipts in there)
4 - empty it out and get rid of anything uncessary once a week.
5 - never put anything in there that you don't need

I realise this will all be a bit high maintenance for some people but it works for me Grin

Rubbish is not allowed in my bag!

It's got a a proper pocket, a zip but, then another popper pocket

1st popper pocket, baby wipes, comb, hand gel, ibuprofen, lipstick, mirror
Zip purse ,mobile , iPad , keys
Back popper pen & pad, deodorant, mints

Nothing else is allowed in my bag ever!

I have a changing bag for all the dc junk

Empty receipts out every night.
Carry card and minimal cash ( coins especially annoy me and get everywhere)
If you've been out for the day and collected leaflets etc, empty them out once home.
Only keep make up in there that you always use ( no 10 different lipsticks for example)
Keys on a key ring

Tamatoa · 23/08/2017 15:00

But if your bag isn't a shit-tip, then you never get to 'clear it out' during times of boredom! I usually do mine at soft play, or similar.

AlpacaLipsNow · 23/08/2017 15:00

Mine's the same. Receipts, wet wipes, keys, lippy, a disintegrated lavender bag, wrappers, biros, suncream.

yecartmannew · 23/08/2017 15:05

I have 4 little make up bags, one holds sanpro, one holds my vaping stuff, one holds personal bits like tweezers, lipstick, body spray, and the last holds medication (painkillers and heartburn stuff along with a small tube of antiseptic cream.

Then my purse and glasses case and a fold up reusable shopping bag.

The pockets in the bag hold my keys and phone.

It is really quick and easy to change handbags and I things don't get lost at the bottom of the bag.

Trustmeimadoggroomer17 · 23/08/2017 15:06

I don't even have a bag Blush

SurlyValentine · 23/08/2017 15:07

I let out an involuntary "ha!" when I read the thread title. My handbags are always organised chaos. I know exactly what is in there including three week old supermarket receipts but it's just a matter of finding the thing I need when I need it.

I have a cosmetic bag in there with lip balm, powder, deodorant, lipstick, atomiser, etc. so at least I can always find them!

My bag actually got cleared out this morning through sheer bad luck; threw a Nutrigrain bar and an Actimel pot (little one) in there to eat when I got to work. Something pierced the lid of the Actimel whilst I was on my way to work, cue Actimel all over the fucking show. FML.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/08/2017 15:08

You need pouches for everything. Make up pouch; wallet or pouch for cards, cash etc; water bottle; little pouch for hairbands etc; what else do you need?

I do have a 2 year old so do this for everything. One pouch = keys, phone, debit card; another for nappies and wipes; another for snacks.

NotInMyBackYard1 · 23/08/2017 15:09

A handbag liner or organiser is helpful. Doesn't stop me flinging loads of stuff in, but at least I know where to find the important stuff when I need it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 23/08/2017 15:10

PS I keep my wallet at home with all the loyalty cards, membership cards etc, and just take debit card (actually a pre-paid card so I don't overspend! Monzo card) and maybe some change with me.

coddiwomple · 23/08/2017 15:15

I change handbag pretty much every day, so no time for any rubbish to settle in. Keys, phone, notepad, pen, kindle, water, tissue, make up, hair clips, sometimes a toddler sun hat/sun cream, snack and a couple of stones, flowers and treasures if I am with my youngest! They would put themselves in my bag if they could. Sometimes I even carry my heels in my bag when it's big enough..
It takes me 30 seconds to transfer my stuff from one bag to another every morning.

Brittbugs80 · 23/08/2017 15:28

I change my bag every couple of days so don't get chance to build up clutter in there.

Don't get me started on the receipts in my purse though!

RainbowPastel · 23/08/2017 15:29

I love Kipling bags they have so many pockets to keep me organised.

ToothTrauma · 23/08/2017 15:32

I keep smaller bags inside my bag. One has tampons, hand cream, lip balm, breath spray etc. One has tablets and plasters. One has headphones, spare glasses.

My wallet, phone, water bottle, collapsible shopper and work pass go in loose.

Nothing else is allowed in!!! Check bag EVERY time you get home for interlopers.

soloula · 23/08/2017 15:32

I use clear pencil cases in mine. One for sanpro, glasses wipes, painkillers etc. One for kids bits - crayons, paper. One for make up. Then I have designated pockets for everything else - phone, inhaler.

And it still ends up a complete shitehole after a few days. Kudos to anyone that manages to keep theirs tidy.

vanityallisvanity · 23/08/2017 15:35

I'm living in the wrong century, I want someone to follow me round carrying all my stuff and who just hands things to me when I need them.

NotInMyBackYard1 · 23/08/2017 16:18

vanity my DH does say that would be cheaper - as per the Michael McIntyre sketch if you have seen it Grin

packofshunts · 23/08/2017 16:30

Glad it's not just me! Think half the problem is that when I buy something card and receipts just get stuffed back in purse or bag without paying any attention.

Never forget DS's horror when I had to empty my bag out at a til to find my bank card and 2 tampons landed on the floor!

I'm guessing those who carry deodorant, water bottles etc have fairly large bags?

My problem with lots of compartments is that they are never used properly and cause just as much stress as one big compartment.

My solution: handbag full of rubbish? Time to buy a new one!

My car passenger footwear seems to be the equivalent of your hand bag!
