There are only three Bitcoin threads and I confess I've posted on them all. I only got interested a few days ago when I read about it. I've read a few articles and a lot of economists say it's nothing but a hyped up bubble which is relying on new investors to pile in. Like a pyramid on Ponzi scheme. Never even heard of the word Ponzi before. But I have now.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 10:53

Sucks to sell at a loss, Sanshin but hopefully it’ll turn around for you soon.

Happy New Year to fellow posters/lurkers! Hoping for another good year. I now own 1900 DOGE Grin Grin Grin I will give them to DD(12) when she turns 18.

As an aside, was impressed by how easy to use Bittylicious is. First time using it as Dogecoin are not sold in so many places, and it was very straightfoward and quick.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 10:59

I’m soooo disappointed, though. Since I first heard of it I’ve been mentally pronouncing Dogecoin with a long o and soft g and have been thinking that it makes no sense being a Shiba Inu coin. Then on Saturday I suddenly thought, “Ohhhhhhh, I get it! Dog-e-coin! HA! HA! HA! That’s brilliant! Can’t believe I didn’t get it before!”

Only to be quickly deflated an hour later when relaying the tale to DS(15 and knows all new things) who rolled his eyes and said, “Muuuuuummmm, it is doge with a long o and soft g, it’s how a Shiba Inu would say ‘dog’ if it could speak. Everyone knows that

Oops. Good thing I didn’t say it in public. Still like dog-e-coin better. Make much more sense.

StinkPickle · 02/01/2018 16:10

Well I bowed to DHs pressure and we cashed in our bitcoin. They earned us £37,000 profit after taking into account what we paid.

Not bad!! We have put some of that into ripple and etherium but the bulk off the mortgage.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 18:01

Well done, Stink ! I’m assuming you know you’ll also need to pay CTG on at least some of that? Will still leave a nice chunk of cash!

I am greedy and am not selling any yet. Grin

pisacake · 02/01/2018 18:05

Yes CTG allowance is £11k per person. But you should definitely never let the tax tail wag the investment dog.

BePositive2018 · 02/01/2018 18:19

I dabble a bit with a few cryptocurrencies.

Experimenting with LiteCoin at the moment.

DeathValleyAhead · 02/01/2018 18:19

Bitcoin totally turned 2017 around for us. Towards the end of the year we were swamped with credit card debt after one disaster after another and were so skint and stressed we decided to cancel our plans to visit the USA the following year. In November DH decided to put £1000 of his savings on bitcoin. I was skeptical but watched as he made £60-£80 A DAY short trading. SO I put £1k of my savings on it too and copied his short trading techniques and as the money rose so did the profits. We began making around £300 a day between us. In one month we'd paid off one of the credit cards, the following month we paid off the other and with what remained we paid for tickets to USA. The profits have slowed down lately but we're still making between £100-£200 a day and will be paying our entire holiday off with it. It's unbelievable. I earn more per day on bitcoin trading than I do a day at work, sometimes double.

BePositive2018 · 02/01/2018 18:29

Where is the best place to buy ripple?

I've only used AvaTrade and eToro but will use somewhere better if anyone knows?

Viviennemary · 02/01/2018 18:30

People would be well advised to take their profits soon. it's very open to viruses from dodgy places and there are rumours these exchanges will be raided and of course no comeback because no regulation. Enjoy it while it lasts. It won't for much longer IMHO. But still if you have faith in this total con that's up to you. There's always winners and losers in Ponzi schemes.

BePositive2018 · 02/01/2018 18:30

DeathValley

That's amazing money to be bringing in everyday.

DeathValleyAhead · 02/01/2018 18:38

Vivienne, have a day off! If you don't like it, don't do it! You don't need to preach to everyone else. What makes you think you know better than anyone else?!
BePositive, it really is. Thankfully I work on a casual hours contract and dictate my own shifts so they have dramatically reduced now!

pisacake · 02/01/2018 18:47

only shills allowed on this thread!

sell your kids for bitcoin!

to the moon!

Viviennemary · 02/01/2018 18:56

Errr I've had two days off actually from Bitcoin threads. . . Sorry I'm posting what you don't want to hear. But everyone will hear soon enough. Sell your house for Bitcoin. Why not. If it's such a great idea. Hmm

Noofly · 02/01/2018 19:14

pisa I don’t think we’re shills. I completely understand that cryptos aren’t for everyone and in fact would never ever encourage anyone to buy any

However, Vivienne talks such shit. Everyone knows it will crash. Everyone knows it might crash and then not recover, but now we’re onto “viruses from dodgy places”? Good Lord. And for the zillionth time, if you leave your coins on an exchange, you only have yourself to blame if you lose it. Not your key, not your coins.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 19:16

BePositive message MNOverinvestor about Ripple. I’m sure they will welcome another Ripple holder on the thread. Grin

DeathValleyAhead · 02/01/2018 19:19

Don't be daft, nobody on here is selling their houses or anything silly like that.

I can't understand why you're so obsessed with it! For someone to be so militant and obsessive after simply reading a few articles is a bit weird to be honest! Come on, what are you not telling us?? Have you been burnt? 😂

If it all goes tits up, fine! Nobody on here has invested more than they can afford to lose and in my case I've paid off thousands of pounds worth of credit card debt and bought mysen a holiday so why not just be happy for people that have done well out of it?

If I was saying "I've made a million quid but it's all in bitcoin but mr jones says he will pay me a million quid in 6 months" I could understand your scepticism but I'm not! I'm telling you I have actually MADE and WITHDRAWN thousands of pounds in which I have actually PAID OFF my cards with! There is no ifs and maybes - it's actually happened! It's done!

Viviennemary · 02/01/2018 19:23

Because it's a scam. It's used for drug dealing and the illegal arms trade. In other words dirty money. If you're happy to make money out of that then that's your business.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 19:26

I like this thread. One of the things I like most about it, in contrast to reddit, twitter etc is that no one is pushing one coin and slagging the others. I’ve got Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and now Dogecoin and am happy with what each is trying to achieve (well, maybe not the DOGE Grin ). I hate the constant slagging off of “rival” coins in other forums.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 19:29

Oh Vivienne you’re so behind the times. Everyone knows the drug and illegal arms money is moving to Monero. Wink

Best not ever visit the US and use dollars then, given their extensive use in such activities.

Viviennemary · 02/01/2018 19:30

But that's what it's all about. Rumour. The only reason people want Bitcoin or any other coin is because they think it will go up in price. It thrives on internet hype. I'm just trying to provide an alternative viewpoint.

Whitecovers · 02/01/2018 19:30

BePositive, I bought my Ripple through Binace.

Whitecovers · 02/01/2018 19:31

Sorry Binance.

Noofly · 02/01/2018 19:39

I don’t mind alternative viewpoints. I constantly argue alternative viewpoints with DH who is not convinced in the slightest by cryptos though he is a big fan of blockchain. The difference is that he brings up points that I might not have thought of (e.g. he can argue proof of stake vs proof of work far better than I can). He doesn’t spout constant hysterical shit.

MNOverinvestor · 02/01/2018 21:14

Hi BePositive, I do welcome another Rippler. I used Kraken but it used Euros and for the minimal sum I was investing, the transaction charges were high.

For 2018, I'd like to find an exchange that's as easy to use as Bittylicious (a similarly cute name being a bonus) to buy a few Ada and Iotas (one's been recommended, the other makes me laugh).

Noofly, I'd assumed it was Dogecoin as inspired by the Doge of Venice. Would hate to be disillusioned. I've missed this thread while I've been finishing off mince pies and lounging by the fire planning my international crime career fuelled by cryptocurrency dabbling.
