endof yeah I'm thinking it's possible, it was more like 4 as it was atleast a year before we split, will speak to him and get him to check it out.Smile

He dabbled more than got stuck into it so don't know how much difference that makes.

Justanotherlurker · 23/08/2017 21:37

To be fair its a bit of a "shoe shine boy" moment so beware.

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2017 21:40

How many coins did you buy HungerOfThePine?

Nuttynoo · 23/08/2017 21:40

Be careful. Some banks prohibit their customers from dealing with bitcoin and other virtual currencies & will give you 30 day notices. It becomes nearly impossible to open an account afterwards.

Mysteriouscurle · 23/08/2017 22:21

My dc advised me to buy £100 when they were £7 each. I thought it was a passing whim and didnt Sad. Ive bought recently. My £200 is now almost £500. Better than the banks by a very long way. Will prob be keeping it long term.

HungerOfThePine · 23/08/2017 22:54

Not sure Endof waiting on him calling me back to satisify my curiosityGrin.
If it's anything noteworthy I will be back.

I'm treating it like a scratchcard for now.

endofthelinefinally · 23/08/2017 23:17

4 coins is £16,800.

MollyWantsACracker · 24/08/2017 15:46

Well it's fun and interesting...
I've put a few quid in across 3 different types and find it amusing to check on my "portfolio" 😂 over the course of the day on an app.
I will see how it goes and will consider throwing a few quid in every month but I won't be betting the farm on it...

I bought into BTC a few years ago, researching them for an (ex) employer.

I think I invested £10 or £20. So far I'm still holding £330, and have spent £1,000

If I had known Brexit and Trump would happen in the same year, I would have bought a lot more ...

The recent fork of Bitcoincash is interesting. Not on a technical level, but because it was easier than getting the necessary support to change BTC.

We haven't even seen the beginning of the potential of cryptocurrencies yet. Or the power of blockchain, which is essentially a state machine that can be programmed (hence smart contracts).

Bitcoin itself is a bit clunky (risk of being first). Later currencies are more flexible, as they allow for proof-of-stake as opposed to proof-of-work.

puddleofmud · 04/11/2017 10:43

Can I possibly ask how people have bought them and not had their bank accounts suspended? I want to buy some ETH, have the wallet and code, but am now hesitant to use Bittylicious/similar to actually buy in case my TSB account is frozen...?

Cambionome · 28/11/2017 18:16

Just wondering if anyone has any more information or an answer to puddles question above?
I am interested in investing but don't know an awful lot about it.

gunsandbanjos · 28/11/2017 18:24

Be super careful, banks take a dim view of bitcoin transactions.

LouPeru · 28/11/2017 22:00

DH started a month ago with £1000 deposit. It now stands at £1860.

I started a week ago with £600 and my account now stands at £730.

DH makes between £60-£100 a day and I make between £20-£30 a day.

You have good and bad days so over the week we average £400 between us weekly.

I've made £37 today and DH has made £110 however tonight he bought high and the price has dropped so he could potentially lose some of that.

It's addictive and a good money maker if you know how to play it but we've studied it at length. In the beginning we were lucky to make £5 a day without losing £7 so to speak.

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 28/11/2017 22:03

DH has been going it for a good while now and knows a few people who do it full time.
It has changed our lives tbh but we aren't banking on it as a long term thing as lots of things go pop.

LouPeru · 28/11/2017 22:07

I worked out if I had £2k in there I could make £100 a day - this is more than I earn at work so I could potentially give up work and make more money fannying around on the computer at home. Obviously I wouldn't as it isn't a guaranteed income but potentially, I could.

We're using it to pay off our credit cards and then a holiday. If I keeps going strong we're going to use it to pay off the mortgage early.

LouPeru · 28/11/2017 22:09

It's basically like a 3rd full time income coming in. Life changing, even if it is short term.

Bookaboo · 28/11/2017 22:13

LouPeru when you say you make £20-£30 a day, do you mean that is the amount the value of your investment has increased by?

Surely you only 'make' the money at the point you sell?

Whitecovers · 28/11/2017 22:14

My friend was meeting a broker today to buy a bitcoin, about £7000/8000, however the meeting has been postponed as he was busy.

She and her partner think that they invest the money and sit and wait over the months/years.

Reading here it seems like you have to be actively doing something everyday?

zenasfuck · 28/11/2017 22:19

My husband has 5 mining rigs up and running. He’s mining bitcoin and etherium

I don’t get it but he does and he’s making £££

LouPeru · 28/11/2017 22:20

Bookaboo - as an example, last night my account was sat at £693 and now it is sitting at £730. So I mean the amount it increases by.

WhiteCovers, you can do it either way. Some people buy and then leave it to increase in value over time. Other people buy and trade small amounts throughout the day for small but regular profits.

Autumnchill · 28/11/2017 22:21

Can someone give advice on where to invest? I've never done it before so don't know where to start Smile

LouPeru · 28/11/2017 22:23

There are a few apps you can download to trade with. Trading212 seems popular. I use CEX as it's the only one I can get my head around (it can be complicated to start with!)

Autumnchill · 29/11/2017 05:43

Thank you 😊

Sludgecolours · 29/11/2017 05:47

They were talking about them just now on radio five live ..Bank of England deputy governor bod says be careful as no bank behind backing them...more a commodity than a currency.

wasonthelist · 29/11/2017 08:03

Why are the banks so viciously opposed?
