In needing immediate period help?!

Sorry, posting here for traffic.

I'm hosting a huge party (for the first time) and for some reason didn't check the date against the date of my period and I'm due that day!

My periods knock me out. Since I've had ds they've been so bad dh has had to take a day off work for the first day. Dizziness, nausea, throwing up, really heavy bleeding, cramps, sweats. And the bloating! I go up about two sizes. Sad

So now I'm stuck with horrific pmt, sweats, vomiting and have to clean the house and sort the garden.

Help!!

I just started taking evening primrose yesterday (late I know) and always take b complex and magnesium.

Any other brilliant tips to not feel as horrific, calm down and look less like a bloaty heifer? Can't really wear Spanx or similar as I'll be in agony and filled with rage anyway.

I can't cancel as people have booked to travel and places to stay. Fuck fuck fuck.

Can you get that pill to delay it? Or start taking the combined pill, if you have time?

Peachyking000 · 23/08/2017 11:11

Do you take any medication to help with periods? If no contraindications (e.g. Bleeding or clotting disorder) you could ask your GP for Tranexamic acid and Mefenamic acid. One lightens blood flow by up to 50% and the other helps with pain. They work well if taken during the heavy days of your period.

When is the party? If it's at the weekend you have time to get the pill that delays your period. I think you can buy it over the counter if you can't get to the doctors.

For long term - Why don't you look into going on the pill or getting a coil? I had the mirena put in a few years ago and if I have a period then it's only v v light which is amazing as before it I had very heavy bleeding with clots and pain.

finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:14

We're struggling with secondary infertility so don't want to take anything with hormones in. Sorry should have mentioned that.

I used to take acid many years ago, I can't really remember it. Does it help with just the pain or anything else too?

The mefenamic!

Peachyking000 · 23/08/2017 11:15

Or Primolut to delay your period - however I dont personally like it - when the period eventually does come it can be even worse, plus it comes with a clotting risk - although it is a Progesterone, it metabolises to Oestrogen

WhooooAmI24601 · 23/08/2017 11:15

See your GP. I took Mefenamic Acid to begin with then tried Tanexamic Acid. The Tanexamic has been an absolute revelation; to the point where I'd even consider wearing light-coloured trousers on my period because they're so much lighter.

I genuinely cannot recommend getting some help from your GP enough. Nobody should have to suffer so much with periods each month; til 2 years ago mine were like yours and nobody really took it seriously til I saw the GP.

Sorry X-posted!

I ask about the two acids today. Dread to think how much they'll cost as we're in the states and don't have healthcare. Sad

It'll be worth it if it works though as this sucks.

I find ibuprofen helps me. Have you been checked for endometriosis/fibroids?

WhooooAmI24601 · 23/08/2017 11:17

The acid lightens flow for me by around 80%. I'm less bloated, too. I do yoga on the days leading up to periods, cut out all caffeine and sugar (which means no bloat) and as soon as I start to spot, I take an acid once three times a day. If I miss a couple of days the vile periods return along with the bloat, though, so there's a reminder on my phone to ensure I don't miss one.

finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:17

I took the delaying thing once when I was much younger. Good god, after 12 hours of horrendous cramps what seemed like my entire period came out in one big hard lump. Blark! Envy> not envy

I had a large fibroid when pregnant with ds but they said it would probably go. I had an internal ultrasound (for a burst ovarian cyst) last July that would have shown either no?

Tranexamic acid has really helped my dd.
Also, she has recently started using a menstrual cup. It took 3 months to get the hang of it but she says it has reduced the cramps and clots enormously.

OurMiracle1106 · 23/08/2017 11:27

To help with the pain have you tried a tens machine? Mine works wonders to the point that when my endometriosis flares up I no longer have to take painkillers just use that instead and i used to be crippled with the pain and be on codydramol and tranexamic acid to just be able to get out of bed.

HoneyWheeler · 23/08/2017 11:27

My gyna said a few years back that ibuprofen is the best for periods because it stops the cramps from actually forming, as opposed to paracetamol which just kills the pain. Try taking some as soon as you feel the slightest twinge and keep yourself topped up all day. Make sure you have a full stomach though!

finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:34

Ba as I'm still bf'ing ds it looks like I can't take either of the acids. Angry

I'll try ibuprofen and a tens.

Buscopan

Heat pad (one of those sticky ones you can wear throughout the party)

Tiger Balm (red one - not sure if this is available in US, but I'm sure there's something similar)

I know it's the most annoying advice ever, but try and keep moving as much as possible. I had awful pain from abdominal adhesions the other day, very similar to period pains. The doctor told me to gently exercise and I wanted to punch him, but actually I went for a short walk and it really helped Blush

finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:36

Hang on, did someone say give up caffeine and sugar? Well I'll be a peach to live with. Grin

Will give it a go though. I'd bought a dress especially and usually when I have my period the only thing I can wear without breaking in to hysterical tears and punches is a tent. Sad

greedygorb · 23/08/2017 11:36

I've tried both pills suggested above and didn't get on with either of them. Recommended by gynae was taking Ibuprofen for the 3 days before your period starts at the max dose allowed daily and then keep taking in until 2nd or 3rd day of your period. It really works. Periods about 50% lighter at least. My problem is my periods are irregular so it's hard to know when to start the ibuprofen.

finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:37

Dh told me I should keep moving as it may get help last month and I told him to fuck off to the far side of fuck for forever.

Ontheboardwalk · 23/08/2017 11:37

The acids made me ill.

What worked wonders for me was Naproxen, just checked it's called Aleve in the states.

I went from massive clots to practically nothing straight away

finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:38

It is true though, when I can drag myself out for walk I do feel a little better. I just have to get out and dressed without anyone talking to me or the dog coming near me as I'm so bloody unhinged.

OP posts:
finderkeeper · 23/08/2017 11:40

Oh thanks Boardwalk. I'm sure I've seen it called naproxen here too.
