House-sitting and accidentally damaged spatula - help needed please :)

RangeTesKopeks · 22/08/2017 23:28

Aargh feel so frustrated at myself. Feel really bad.

Currently house-sitting, and put the dishwasher on earlier. Just went to take the things out of the dishwasher and noticed that the spatula (with a silicone 'head') has a chunk missing from it.

I realised it's because I (bloody stupidly) put the spatula next to a carving knife, and the knife must have sliced a bit off the spatula during the dishwasher cycle.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a similar spatula from please? Have no idea where it's from, and would like to replace it. Frantically Googling orange spatulas at the moment because of my own stupidity Blush So far, I've only been able to find ones with silicone handles rather than metallic handles.

Thanks everyone!!

Just popped in to see how a thread about a spatula got 52 replies Grin

noblegiraffe · 23/08/2017 12:52

This one's only a tenner www.amazon.co.uk/d/Spatulas-Turners/Silit-22711201-Universal-Orange-Red/B000P5PLOK?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Which compared to the other ones is actually reasonable. Shock

melonscoffer · 23/08/2017 12:54

I suppose someone should now ask where you are located, which country.
We've got answers on here recommending both US and UK links and maybe others too.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 23/08/2017 13:02

Sorrylaughing outloud here with the links to 1000 spatulas. What would you do with that many

Pssssst!!! Anyone wanna spatula?

RangeTesKopeks · 23/08/2017 16:04

Thanks so much everyone! You're fab :)

Whoops sorry - I'm in London :) Quite near a Tiger actually, so will pop in after work later to see what I can find.

Even if you're selling spatulas, 1000 is a heck of a lot! I don't think I've ever seen a shop that had more than 20 identical ones on display. Presumably they might have a few dozen more in the back, but I wouldn't imagine that spatulas would sell that fast!

Flyingflipflop · 23/08/2017 16:14

Just tell them you modified it to fit their pans better. And then charge them for your genius.....

Jux · 23/08/2017 23:35

It's prtty obvious that 1000 spatulas would be needed if you were organising a world-wide simultaneous Spatula-Relay Race.

I ask you! Wink

ItsNotLit · 24/08/2017 00:14

I keep reading FlyingFlipFlops name as FryingFlipFlop which would make a good alternative name for a spatula.

Please will you update when you find the replacement spatula. It's important to me 😂😂😂

BlondeB83 · 24/08/2017 00:44

£3 from Tiger.

faithinthesound · 24/08/2017 05:25

About five to ten dollars at my old work. Not hard to find :)

Better you should be honest and upfront about what happened. "I accidentally broke this - I will replace it". It's pretty likely they'll laugh and tell you not to bother! They really are cheap as chips.

faithinthesound · 24/08/2017 05:27

Just wanted to add,
Too many sitcoms start like this, with a relatively minor issue that gets blown out of all proportion because the person who didn't thinks it's easier/preferable to bend over backwards or go through all kinds of implausible shenanigans to rectify the problem before the other person finds out. The reality is, honesty is by far the better policy. Not only is it much easier in terms of the fact that you don't then have to run around covering up a lie, but people respect honestly far more than deception :)

faithinthesound · 24/08/2017 05:30

Also adding (sorry for triple post) the fact that you're fretting about this so much, says a lot about you, and all of it's good.

Especially when as a PP said there's another thread going about a woman whose 10yo damaged the teen babysitter's iPad and she's trying to get out of paying for it (?). Two kinds of people in the world, huh?

Shadow666 · 24/08/2017 06:00

I must admit I smiled at your OP.

If you cant find the exact one, just get a similar one from Tiger.

The OP in the iPad thread was clear from the beginning that she would pay to fix it, she was just looking for cheaper options.

JemDoughnut · 24/08/2017 13:18

I have that exact spatula.

I want to say it would have either come from Wilko or Asda, but if it did then they don't appear to sell them anymore.

Barring the colour them Tiger ones look the same though.

I wouldn't worry too much though, it's just a spatula. (A really nice one, I love that spatula. I have my baking things stored separately to the every day kitchen stuff so they don't get ruined. That spatula stays with the baking things. I'm aware I sound crazy but I've been burned before...)

noblegiraffe · 24/08/2017 13:47

Hmm Jem, how much is that spatula worth to you...?

RangeTesKopeks · 24/08/2017 14:06

Thanks everyone :) bought another one from Tiger yesterday and 'fessed up to the homeowners what happened. They were reasonably chilled about it :)

OP posts:
JemDoughnut · 24/08/2017 15:32

I did consider asking how much the OP wanted for it, noblegiraffe, but I really don't want to part with it!

Glad the spatula owners were chilled, you'd have to really question the sort of person someone to be that precious about a spatula... Wink

Jux · 24/08/2017 18:30

Nice. There's no need to be anything other than chilled over an accident like that, and it is just a spatula.

JemDoughnut, I keep all my baking stuff outof dh's way too. He'll ruin anything! Now i want a spatula like that too! If I were to get 1000 of them I could hide them and bring another one out each time dh messes one up.

faithinthesound · 25/08/2017 05:19

I mean if it had been the fish slice, and the owners had found the sex lube missing, we'd have an actual scandal on our hands. Wink

PringlesInMyPants · 25/08/2017 05:36

They were reasonably chilled about it. Reasonably? Over a spatula?

TheSultanofPingu · 25/08/2017 06:48

I've got one exactly the same. Think it was from wilko around £1.50.
Try not to worry. I'm sure they won't mind.

TheSultanofPingu · 25/08/2017 06:49

Sorry, just read your update.
