House-sitting and accidentally damaged spatula - help needed please :)

Aargh feel so frustrated at myself. Feel really bad.

Currently house-sitting, and put the dishwasher on earlier. Just went to take the things out of the dishwasher and noticed that the spatula (with a silicone 'head') has a chunk missing from it.

I realised it's because I (bloody stupidly) put the spatula next to a carving knife, and the knife must have sliced a bit off the spatula during the dishwasher cycle.

Does anyone know where I might be able to get a similar spatula from please? Have no idea where it's from, and would like to replace it. Frantically Googling orange spatulas at the moment because of my own stupidity Blush So far, I've only been able to find ones with silicone handles rather than metallic handles.

Thanks everyone!!

I'm now wondering who would buy spatulas by the thousand. That's quite a lot even for a large kitchen.

BertieBotts · 23/08/2017 00:44

Amazon India! Grin How are you finding these links??

Jux · 23/08/2017 01:05

Well, Bertie, I do a straight forward Google search and then click on images, and then go to the page with image. I have been all over the world with Google Images, it can come up with some v strange things.

ItsNotLit · 23/08/2017 01:08

I think whoever said it looked like a Tiger Spatula was right.

I think Tarquin and I should share the finders prize.

There is a prize right? 🤔

I checked the date and everyfing.

Imbeingunreasonable · 23/08/2017 01:25

Sorry OP I'm really tired and read this as damaged Dracula. My eyes are stinging in fairness so I should probably sleep.

Hope all goes well with spatula incident. Is just be honest and tell the truth and offer to pay for a new one

Jux · 23/08/2017 01:27

Well I'll not fight you for the prize but I'd lke to point out that those spatulas ARE NOT ORANGE! so they may not count at all, but you should definitely lose Kudos Points.

Haudyerwheesht · 23/08/2017 02:39

If you were house sitting for me and this happened I'd be mortified that you felt you had to replace it. Chill .

AgentZigzag · 23/08/2017 03:18

Are you 100% sure it wasn't like that before you put it in the dishwasher?

Anyway, dishwashers don't really chuck knives about in them do they? Let alone hard enough to shave bits off other stuff in there.

Escargot82 · 23/08/2017 03:35

You sound like a lovely housesitter OP Smile
I'm sure they won't mind if you just replace it with another of similar value.

5rivers7hills · 23/08/2017 08:04

Chill.

If you were house sitting for me I wouldn't mind about the spatular but I would appreciate you letting me know.

If you replaced it with a similar looking one even better but I wouldn't be bothered.

These things happen when you're in someone else's house and not familiar with their things.

Ps don't put good knives in a dish washer tho...

RangeTesKopeks · 23/08/2017 08:09

Thanks so much for your help everyone :) Sorry for being so stressy about it! (Have definitely learned my lesson now about putting knives in the dishwasher too Blush)

I have one exactly like that except it's blue. I got it free with a copy of BBC Good Food magazine about 10 years ago.

If I were you I'd text the owners and say 'I'm really sorry, but I've damaged your spatula, where did you get it from so I can replace it' and I'm sure that 99% of decent people will say 'don't worry about it, it still looks useable, I have another one, or it was a magazine freebie 10 years ago, it's fine'. Smile.

You'd have to be a bit of cheeky sod to expect something like that to be replaced by a house sitter who made a mistake.

With sharp knives, I lay them down on the top rack if big, and put blade down in the cutlery basket if small. Nothing has ever got damaged, but I can see how it could happen.

justilou1 · 23/08/2017 08:51

Don't stress! Any big supermarket probably has one.

Gwilt160981 · 23/08/2017 08:56

Buy a new one from pound land.

SaucyJack · 23/08/2017 11:29

I think it's here. Looks like an Italian brand. Unhelpful, I know.

PersianCatLady · 23/08/2017 11:31

OP - If only everybody in the world was as respectful as you of other people's possessions then the world would be a much better place.

Probably only someone that sold them.

Ginorchoc · 23/08/2017 11:39

If it makes you feel better I house/pet sat for a friend once. I left a plastic utensil on top of her Aga. Having a big standard stove at home I forgot they are in practically all the time (also connected to heating) it melted, nightmare to have cleaned and left her house smelling of a plastics factory for weeks Confused we are still friends. (Oh and one of her chickens died!)

londonrach · 23/08/2017 11:55

😋😋😋😋😋😍😍😍. Sorrylaughing outloud here with the links to 1000 spatulas. What would you do with that many?

toldmywrath · 23/08/2017 12:01

I'm just taking a break from my laptop, I was actually shopping for a spatula. Wish I could take a photo of my hand written list with spatula underlined and at the top.Grin

Seriously OP, you sound lovely and the perfect house sitter. I, too, would try to replace it but if the situation was reversed, would you think" I'm not using the spatula destroyer again"
