re 'Cash waiting' and 'need gone'?

I just find these phrases pointless. I kind of assume people posting an ad on facebook in search of something will have money to pay for it. And I really don't care if someone 'needs' something to go, that's not going to affect my decision to buy it or not.

One that really annoyed me was an advert for free paving slabs but collector had to dig them up, just thought it was really cheeky.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/08/2017 20:11

Another one that annoys me is when people say they're asking for what they paid. No no ones going to buy it off you for the same price they could buy it in a shop!

That reminds me of the baffling case of the air fryer (I think it was). The conversation went something like:

S(eller): Brand new air fryer, never used, in sealed box. Only want what I paid for it. £90.

P(oster): It's £50 in Argos at the moment.
S: No, its RRP is £90.
P: Yes, but I could walk into Argos today and get one for £50.
S: OK, but I didn't buy it in the sale.
P: Maybe not, but it's not worth £90 now. Only £50 at most.
S: It's worth £90 because I paid £90. I want what I paid for it. It's brand new.
P: Yeah, so is the one in Argos for £50.
Poster 2: Would you take £40?
S: NO! I paid £90, why would I take £40! You must be joking!
Poster 2: Because it's £50 in Argos.

and on, and on for about (if I remember correctly) 75 comments.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler it can cut the other way too. I was once selling a tomtom sat nav unit that I had had less than 6 months on gumtree, not for same price as new but the same model was still on sale for £150. I was selling it for £70. I had several people contact me to say that unit was on sale on the Halfords website for £50. I checked the Halfords site and it was showing at £50 but and there wasn't any in stock at that price anywhere in the country (I checked using their store distance checker as far out as it would let me). Everywhere else online had for sale at £150. I suspected it was an error on Halfords part. Anyway, I responded to each message with 'sounds like a bargain, buy it from Halfords!' One guy was pretty insistent that I sell it to him at the Halford price because that was what it was worth and that it was a good offer as it was used and he could get it new for less. I kept telling him to go and buy it from Halfords. This went on for a while, eventually he said that Halfords appeared to be out of stock and he couldn't find it anywhere else at that price but would be willing to give me an extra £5 for it as as goodwill. I stopped responding to his emails after that and he became really rude and aggresive. I wouldn't have sold it to him at that point even if he'd offered me double the new price. In the end, I sold it to a lovely lady who was buying it for her mum. She offered me the full price but I sold it to her for £50 simply because she wasn't a nut job and didn't come across as entitled!

BoysofMelody · 23/08/2017 20:45

Or the converse of that. I had Bike saddle bought for £60, mint condition, sell for £20.

I got responses along the line of '£15, only want it for my second bike which I don't ride much.'

quite frankly I don't care if you use it once a year or ride it in next year's Tour de France, it makes no odd to me.

happyfrown · 23/08/2017 20:53

when backyard breeders cant spell the dogs names such as...
chiwawas for sale!

when people ask ''whats your best price?'' the price ive stated dumb arse.

when they message and ask for a dropped price, you say no, they return with ''Ive seen it cheaper elsewhere'' .... go elsewhere then. Wink

when selling on facebook, you put the description, price, location and mention you don't drive so collection only. the following replies....
.how much?
.can you deliver
.where is collection
.whats the measurements

I mean can no one read?

AreWeThereYet000 · 23/08/2017 21:03

I've been selling some things for my mum on the facebook pages as she doesn't have it, and I've asked for buyer to collect and to dismantle so I don't have a problem with those, they were large items think wardrobes/wall units etc so no way could she take them down herself she's quite old and not very the strongest she's so petite and I'm busy with 2 kids, a job and studying so it's not that we are lazy it's just we genuinely can't do it. Included this in the post as well as price/measurements/town of collection.... some of the replies;

  • can you knock £60 off because I'll have to pay for a van so I don't have to bother dismantling.
  • does the top part of the unit detach as that would fit in my car and I don't need all the storage (well yes, you build it all up but what would I do with half a unit that clearly looks like half when taken apart with how it's designed)
  • can you deliver? How much?

I've then marked items as sold on the sites after selling them finally to have another 20 people message asking if it's still available.

happyfrown · 23/08/2017 21:34

I had some one ask if I would reduce the price as he has to drive hours to collect. Hmm

monkeywithacowface · 23/08/2017 21:53

Ooh so sorry BlurryFace completely misread your post Blush

Bloomin AIBU obviously brings out the snark in me

CarolinePenvenen · 23/08/2017 22:01

One that really boils my piss is “looking for new tv, cheap as poss” as if I’m going to think yeah I’ll sell that tv. It’s worth £100 but since she wants it as cheap as poss I’ll let her have it for a fiver. Why don’t people say, looking for a new tv, no more than £50?

Voice0fReason · 23/08/2017 22:04

I hate when people are selling a cooker/fridge/microwave etc and they say nothing wrong with it just needs a clean - why wouldn't you clean it before you sell it??
Not worth my time!
I sold a fridge recently - perfectly good but needed a good clean. I had better things to do with my time than to clean it. I was only asking £10 for it so it was up to the buyer. I made it clear the condition of it. Judging by the number of requests I had, it didn't put anyone off.

Need it gone just means that I can't wait until next week when you are able to collect it - it needs to be collected today.

TallulahBetty · 23/08/2017 22:18

Pahahaha at 'chiwawa'

Littlecaf · 23/08/2017 22:19

Messaged someone about a baby bouncer, was advertised at £30 less than others on the site. Said I can view/collect/pay tomorrow. Response back was 'I've been offered £40 rather than £30, if you can go higher & collect today it's yours. Erm no, not getting into a bidding war over a Baby Bjorn bouncer when there probably isn't another buyer.

It's still on the site for the lower price.

Mammyloveswine · 24/08/2017 11:26

I saw a bundle of baby boy's clothes for sale for a tenner, messaged saying I could come collect in the morning and got address etc. Even said she could keep the "tiny baby" clothes that were included to re-sell as I tend to have big babies. I then got a message at 3:30 am saying "actually can you pay £15?" Erm no I can't cheeky cow! I just told her if she wants 15 to re-list at 15 and I would leave them thanks.

I'm currently selling my pram and someone has asked if I'll just sell the colour pack, meaning I'd be left with a pram without hood etc.

Also selling a traditionally silver cross pram, had someone message "what does it come with, car seat etc?" Erm no...

Worst was when I put some dresses for sale and someone asked if I thought they might fit a 12. They were all size 10. I said they were welcome to try on (hubs was home so didn't mind a stranger trying on dresses). Said person then messaged to say they were a trans-person. Didn't bother me.

They then messaged again, can you keep your husband out of the way. Erm I assume must be a bit apprehensive still, or shy so said they could try on in downstairs bathroom with full length mirror lugged there.

Arranged 4 different times over the course of the day and kept making excuses, they may well have lost their nerve but was such a fanny on waiting in all bloody day! Hopefully they're now comfortable and happy and I hope it wasn't just someone taking the piss.

BhajiAllTheWay · 24/08/2017 21:19

Love the " bought these shoes for £17 hardly worn...selling for £17 , only want what I paid for them.." erm..no they're second hand ya daft mare. And no-one can spell can they? a nice 'dimanty' necklace was on offer too..Grin

grandOlejukeofYork · 24/08/2017 21:39

And another thing about the shoes; people will say "worn only for 2 hours" or whatever, and I always think "so they are so uncomfortable you couldn't even keep them on for whatever event you bought them for, why the fuck would I want them then?"

Anxietyreallyblows · 25/08/2017 09:30

So many people list prams which are second hand especially with a bit missing for hundreds of pounds on my local fb group. Unsurprisingly they get no takers. There are some massive lovely cheap bundles if clothes for £5-15 but they get knocked down on price loads despite having lots of great clothes in.

I've done '£20, to be gone by the end of the week of going to the tip'. When a couple did come I offered it for free but they refused and gave me £20. The sofa was up for free for nearly a month and I had loads of pisstakers wanting delivery by me or asking me to hold and not turning up. A friend is an experienced seller and told me that often 'free' puts people off regardless of why. She was correct that as soon as I relished for £20 at the end of the week, I had several serious queries about it.

Anxietyreallyblows · 25/08/2017 09:30

Cash waiting I've never even heard off but 'needs to go' I see a lot.

CantThinkOfAUserNameNotTaken · 25/08/2017 09:35

The cheekiness I've seen was someone selling the free sainsbury lego cards for 50p a packet because she spent a lot to get them.

She refused to open then so people could even see and get the cards they wanted.

I was pleased when they were directed to sites where the cards were traded for free.

To sell free cards when the parents were searching for those missing few just really rubbed me wrong. Especially as they got humpy when the interested people buggered off to get them for free.

Bloke1976 · 25/08/2017 12:55

We were giving an electric cooker away for free...

And someone had the cheek to ask if we'd deliver it to her...

Grrrr, its free.. find a friend to help or pay a man in a van to collect it.

bbcessex · 25/08/2017 14:00

bloke surprised they didn't ask you to fit it too!

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 25/08/2017 15:21

I always took "need gone" to mean "I want it to go fast so am listing it for less than I would have"

I recently gave away some turf we had left over from laying a lawn and was surprised how many people put "in line" after someone had claimed it. I mean people drop out so if you're 2nd or 3rd person fair enough - but do people really 7 people ahead of them to drop out?

I didn't actually expect to get any interest at all as it was only a few rolls - ended up wishing I'd charged for it! ha ha

PP put that they still had people asking if something was available after they posted it was collected; I rarely use these sites but when I do I always delete the post once somethings gone.

Notso · 25/08/2017 15:43

I was selling a dismantled cot bed with brand new mattress for £50, no offers.
First message was "I'll av dat hun, £20"
Second message "wud u take £40 n deliver n build at mine plz"
Third message "what's ur lowest price"
So frustrating.

Letstryagainshallwe · 25/08/2017 16:02

Oh are those lego cards free?? lol there's a woman who has boxes of them and keeps putting them up trying to sell them.

CantThinkOfAUserNameNotTaken · 25/08/2017 20:38

Letstryagainshallwe, yup definitely free. You'd get one packet per ten pounds spent in sainsbury. I wonder if it's the same woman, is it for 50p each too?

Letstryagainshallwe · 25/08/2017 21:58

I think it might well be the same woman she has a massive box of them. I will go and look if it's 50p, never actually paid attention to the price just knew I was interested! lol

Just seen another one that reminded me of this thread "selling toddler mattress massive stain on it but will probably come out if washed" so that's clearly poo, wee or vomit! Why not just wash it before selling!
