To think you don't call someone at 1:30am?

Unless it's an emergency?!

Had a fall out with a friend, she is very much in the wrong and knows it. She then decided to call me at 1:30 last night .., it woke me up and I had to be up at 5 this morning.

When I told her she just said - I wanted to sort things out. Aibu to think she may be the most thoughtless person ever?

Bet she'd had a drink.

SheepyFun · 22/08/2017 21:44

The only time I've called someone at anything approaching that time was to pick up DD from the kind friends who were caring for her while I accompanied DH to hospital.

I wouldn't even call someone to let them know a relative had died at that time - brutal as it sounds, they will still be dead the next morning. I would if it was a medical emergency (to get childcare for DD while taking DH to hospital or if I knew someone was very seriously ill and that the recipient would want to know).

Sympathies, OP

Oh lord I bet your heart was hammering in your chest.

Yanbu that's a ridiculous time to call and I would be livid with her

Slimthistime · 22/08/2017 21:55

Id think she had appendicitis or something! Crazy.

CatsAreAssholes · 22/08/2017 21:57

With the exception of time zone confusion* someone better be dead if I get a call after 11.

And I'm quickly losing patience with time zone confusion now that you can literally type "what time is it in the UK" in to google

CatsAreAssholes · 22/08/2017 21:58

Actually dead can wait till the morning. No changes over night.

I want near death to justify a post 11 call.

WingsofNylon · 22/08/2017 21:59

I disagree. I think the fact that she felt so bad about the argument she just had to call you to resolve it is really touching and I'm my eyes would count towards the apology. Shows that she values the relationship enough for it to be on her mind at that time I night.

Princesspinkgirl · 22/08/2017 22:13

Unacceptable to call someone that late my phone is always on silent at night

Emboo19 · 22/08/2017 22:17

Oops! I would and have! Called my best friends a few times in the early hours when I was up feeding DD, just to chat. In my defense we're only young and I did text first so knew they were up.
My friends have done it to me for various reasons, being dumped by boyfriends the most common, a few A&E visits, one arrest and once to ask to borrow a dress, for a party two months away!
My dad phoned my DP a few months into us dating, to have 'the talk' with him. At 2am while I was asleep next to him.
He might have been a tiny bit drunk though!

Oysterbabe · 22/08/2017 22:21

What's 'the talk'?

FredLovesWilma · 22/08/2017 22:24

My FIL rang us one night at gone 11pm. He had a computer problem. My dd was less than a fortnight old.

I was v annoyed at his utter thoughtlessness.

KERALA1 · 22/08/2017 22:24

Think it was Ben Elton who said a call in the middle of the night was either a bad person or a good person with bad news.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/08/2017 22:40

Well the fact that she called you at 1.30am. Shows how much she was upset and worrying, and wants to fix things.
My advice is. Don't hold a grudge o
and keep the fall out up.
Life's too short for all that.

opinionatedfreak · 22/08/2017 22:45

My family are night owls. We call each other to chat up till midnight.

Anything after that means a death or similar disaster.

Proven recently by my brother getting confused about time and calling me at around 01:00. I only answered because it was mobile so caller ID and we have lots of crumbly relatives. My opening line was "hi, who has died?"

He apologised profusely and hung up. We spoke the next morning, I never did entirely establish if he was drunk, or just being monumentally dim.

CatsAreAssholes · 22/08/2017 23:04

It's where your dad metaphorically pisses all over you.

hiphopcat · 23/08/2017 00:04

Aside from serious family emergencies, I would only call someone at 1.30am if ...

there was a huge meteorite shower
there was a lunar eclipse
it was snowing
the queen was dead
Madonna was dead
i needed a lift home from a club

hiphopcat · 23/08/2017 00:05

Or if I saw the northern lights..............
