To think giving ds my old iPhone for his birthday was simple until the family sharing Apple ID, iCloud stuff has put me off!

iTunes, totally confuses me.

I've only ever used it in its basic form.

I have an old iPhone sitting doing nothing. Yes, I don't HAVE to give him the phone but it seems the right time, Birthday coming up to.

Will need to set it up with his own number and on a phone package I've not looked into yet but it's this bloody iTunes which puts me off.

What I don't want is ds being able to access my messages, emails etc I don't want him to be able to access my music, want it completely separate.

AIBU to think that Apple should just simplify the whole system for under 13's (ds is almost 11)

If not could you please share with me how you've managed this. I will be very grateful.

My DS has an EE payg phone with a plan that for £1 per week gives him 10 mins calls, 10 texts and 100MB data. Has been plenty for him as he's mostly on wifi and WhatsApp. Has occasionally paid a little extra to add extra capacity to his package in busy weeks.

He gets a boost every 12 weeks for more data, calls or texts - he always chooses data so is now up to 300MB every week.

Note that you can just put your own sim in to set up the phone.
