To ask if you weigh more or less after having children?

JennyLongLegs · 20/08/2017 19:42

Personally, I'm lighter than ever after having two kids but I know that's not the case for many. I've had long spells of being overweight but I've found that running after my children and cooking them good dinners have been good for my physical wellbeing.

A number of other ladies I know have ended up slimmer, maybe it's having less time to snack.

Before I had children I was so worried I'd never lose the baby weight as I felt I had heard so many stories of how hard it can be to shift, which I know is the case for some but I'm just curious to see if that's the norm or if most of us have found it's made us healthier and possibly lighter.

Welcome to MN op Smile

I guess everyone is different.

LapCatLicker · 20/08/2017 19:44

Holy stealth boast batman!

ASDismynormality · 20/08/2017 19:44

I got heavier after my first, lighter than before my first just after giving birth to my second. After my third I was at my heaviest! All over the place!

Celestia26 · 20/08/2017 19:45

Are you trying to bait people? Hate humble brags!

ChopinLisztFinder · 20/08/2017 19:46

I weigh about the same.

DS is now 2. I put on 5 stone during pregnancy, and post it quite slowly over the first 18 months of his life. I'm pretty sure I put on even more in the first 3-4 months of his life but was too busy to weigh myself!

JennyLongLegs · 20/08/2017 19:46

I'm not boasting at all. I've struggled with my weight and with eating disorders for many years but I've found that having children seems to have helped me to have a better diet and keeps me fitter. I was possibly a little on the lazy side before which doesn't really work as a parent so it's been a good change for me.

I'm the same but I guess I feel slimmer relatively now, as a 9 stone 47 year old is ok but I berated myself a bit for weighing 9 stone at 31

What an odd thing to be 'curious' about.

I weighed less after my first baby was born than I did before I got pregnant.

I weighed far more after the birth of my second baby.

Oysterbabe · 20/08/2017 19:46

Stealth? Nothing nothing stealthy about that!

No, I'm not slimmer. After my first I turned into a hippo and now I'm having my second that pattern seems set to continue.

Mrsjohnmurphy · 20/08/2017 19:48

Less. The father of my kids was a bit of a feeder Grin

Nectarines · 20/08/2017 19:48

After two children (3 and 18m) I'm about the same as before first pregnancy. I fluctuate as I always have. I eat the same as I did before. I'm more active but I'm older so swings and roundabouts.

BellyBean · 20/08/2017 19:48

I was half a stone lighter by the end of my mat leave then before I got pregnant, but put it back on within a year of being back at work. Definitely the running around, not having a car for some of it, not wanting to snack in front of dd as she would want some, and all the breastfeeding.

Don't think I'll have it so easy with dd2 as I'll be walking less and restricted to being around for preschool pick up.

BrawneLamia · 20/08/2017 19:48

I weigh less but my tummy is wobblier

JennyLongLegs · 20/08/2017 19:49

I'm sure I'll no doubt reach a point where I'll end up overweight again (hopefully not) so I'm in no way bragging. I just find life is giving me less time to endulge the way I used to and I consciously try to eat fruit etc in front of the kids and not eat as much chocolate. I had so many bad eating Babbitt and issues and. If i didn't have the kids, I'm sure is still be in the same situation. I just wanted to hear how it's impacted others and if there are many people who have had the same experience as me.

I have 3 DC and I'm a stone lighter than when I was pregnant with the first nearly 18 years ago. I'm 49 but I don't think my case is typical. Most of my weight loss is down to episodes of severe depression including a period of being NG tube fed. I would much rather be slightly overweight and not have gone through what I did.

GodIsDead · 20/08/2017 19:50

Congrats OP. I'm sure many mums can't wait to read this post. Hmm

Annabelle4 · 20/08/2017 19:51

Less, but I've loose skin and saggy boobs and bum now

JennyLongLegs · 20/08/2017 19:51

Brawne I can definitely relate to the wobbly tummy.

after two kids am around the same as i was before. After my first i was slimmer after having him then the weight piled on in the newborn fog of life after living on takeaway. Then i lost it all and then some i felt fantastic and then found out i was having my second all the healthy eating must if helped it took years to concieve my first. Now after my second am about a stone heavier than i would like but am ok with that and am back at weight watchers 😁

sizeofalentil · 20/08/2017 19:52

You have to be pretty insecure in yourself to think this is a humblebrag. It's not like she's posted saying post-DC she's a lithe size 6, got a fanny like a bear trap and massive perky boobs. OP could have weighed 40 stone before DC, and now weighs 38 stone, for all we know.

She just said she weighs less than she used to because she's running about more. Probably shouldn't have posted it in AIBU though if she wanted chatty responses.

Raver84 · 20/08/2017 19:52

After having mine I couldn't shift the last 10lbs or so. It was only when I finished bf that I was able to loose the last bit so about a year after each of my 4. I seemed to hold weight whilst feeding. I then have stayed more or less the same as before kids sometimes lighter sometimes a bit more. Dont think it really matters tbh as long as your happy in yourself.

MoHunter · 20/08/2017 19:53

I think people who are overweight before having kids have a better chance at becoming slimmer afterwards than those who are thin before kids if that makes sense?

I was obese when I first got pregnant, 3 years and 2 kids later I have gone from a size 18/20 to a size 14, it was a conscious effort/change of eating habits and didn't happen solely because se I had children. But extended breastfeeding helped a lot!

However I'm still not what I'd call fit and I have a floppy mummy tummy (kangaroo pouch).

I do think I cook healthier dinners now due to the kids and go for more walks etc than ever before, I expect a lot of people do.

mirime · 20/08/2017 19:53

Lost a lot of weight while pregnant because I was horribly sick, and I wasn't overweight to start with. Stayed off while I was breastfeeding, but have put it back on plus more since.

I was size 12ish (at the upper end, which was annoying as I was a 10 on top so dresses were really difficult) before pregnancy, a 10 after and I'm definitely a 14 now.
