To ask if you weigh more or less after having children?

Personally, I'm lighter than ever after having two kids but I know that's not the case for many. I've had long spells of being overweight but I've found that running after my children and cooking them good dinners have been good for my physical wellbeing.

A number of other ladies I know have ended up slimmer, maybe it's having less time to snack.

Before I had children I was so worried I'd never lose the baby weight as I felt I had heard so many stories of how hard it can be to shift, which I know is the case for some but I'm just curious to see if that's the norm or if most of us have found it's made us healthier and possibly lighter.

Was the same after kids, but 1-3 kg heavier now (youngest is approaching 10yo & I am approaching menopause).

I weigh more now, but I was underweight considerably before I had children. I was a little overweight after my first, now I'm a very healthy weight after my second. I'm slim and have a great BMI.

But I think that it's down to breastfeeding. I breastfed my first and it made me so hungry. My second, breastfeeding didn't work out, so my appetite was much smaller. Plus the near organ failure from severe pre eclampsia helped me loose weight...don't recommend it though.

Camomila DS is 9 months. And you're right, since he's started having his 3 meals I'm no longer losing weight, which is good, because I also look a bit ill, I think.

Hoping that once he stops BFing I'll put the missing stone back on and feel (and look!) a bit stronger.

HungerOfThePine · 20/08/2017 21:20

Lighter now by half a stone but I would say I had more muscle tone before dc than I do now as I looked like a twig before kids.

Took about 5 yrs to get to this stage of slim.

allegretto · 20/08/2017 21:25

A year after I weighed less and that lasted until after the toddling stage. My youngest is now 7 and I weigh a couple of kilos more.

milliemolliemou · 20/08/2017 21:26

Haven't read the thread. Lost masses of weight breast feeding a 11lb DC. Worked after 6 months and stress made me lose more.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 20/08/2017 21:29

My mum lost loads of weight after having me (she was slim to begin with). I've gone up and down since having DTDs but am now very fat after a horrendous year - ATM I'm just happy I'm still alive.

Dozyoldtwonk · 20/08/2017 21:29

Exactly the same as NextInLine - lighter after DC1 than before, lighter still after DC2. Nothing special done - just breastfeeding, running around after them, on mat leave so more time to be out and about walking etc. and just generally eating better to give me energy to get though the day Grin

I don't get the bashing on these type of threads. Some people struggle to lose weight after DC, some don't. Some gain load will whilst pregnant, some don't. Some end up heavier afterwards, some lighter. So what. OP, I don't think you were stealth boasting at all. I'm fed up of being made to feel Iike I'm not a 'real woman' because I'm a certain size (not this thread BTW, rather comments made to be IRL). We are all different and if you want to shout from the rooftops that you're lighter, good for you.

Dina1234 · 20/08/2017 21:30

I've only just returned to my Prevacid weight (but not my pre baby body-hopefully it will all spring back into place eventually).

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 20/08/2017 21:31

I've also been pretty slim, at 5'9" and just about 8 stone in my early 20s. Also not a good look...

Dozyoldtwonk · 20/08/2017 21:31

Also, I need to start spellchecking my posts before posting. My autocorrect is shite!

Sugarformyhoney · 20/08/2017 21:37

I'm heavier but I'm also 15 years old and a non smoker now.

Sugarformyhoney · 20/08/2017 21:37

*older ffs

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 20/08/2017 21:43

Similar or lighter. Fitter.

I managed to get slightly under my pre-pregnancy between both DCs then lost a little more after DS2. He's now 4.

Over the last year, I've crept up slightly back towards my original weight. I think there's a couple of factors. The DCs are at that carb fest age and have gone off a lot of veg that they liked early on. We have busy evenings a few times a week which doesn't always encourage the best eating habits. I should use the slow cooker more to avoid that problem... but the DCs have gone picky over that kind of one-pot meal. They're also those annoying active twiglet type children who need snacks here and there to tide them over, and I need to develop my will power. My tried and tested method of avoiding temptation seems to have become outdated! Sadly signing myself up for half marathons doesn't seem to be enough to resolve the situation!
