Lead story on News at 10 was Bruce Forsyth dies, with tributes and analysis lasting over 10 minutes.
In other news... multiple murders in Spain from terrorist attacks...

YABVVVU. Just because people are upset about Brucie, that doesn't mean they don't care about the dead and hurt in Spain, or Syria, or Sierra Leone. FFS it is possible to be upset about more than one thing at once!

Why do people have this ludicrous attitude?

Brucie has been a massive star for over half a century, and millions of people feel like they know him. People who are attacking people for being upset are just spiteful imo.

It's like when the woman put the cat in the bin (Mary Bale,) people got upset for the poor cat, and the usual whingebags started blathering on about how they care more about cats than humans. Nobody said that, and it wasn't true! In fact, people who care about the welfare of animals probably care MORE about other humans than the people who were slagging them off!

There has been tons of coverage on Barcelona, and every other terrorist attack there has ever been, and also lots of coverage on the mudslides in Sierra Leone, and endless news items on SYRIA! What more do you want FFS?! Confused

Brucie was a well loved and talented performer, who spanned 3 generations, and brought a lot of joy to millions of people. He has died, he is only going to die once, and of COURSE they are going to pay tribute to him! He only died today for fuck's sake!

Stop being so mean and miserable, and revelling in the joy that you are not alone in thinking Brucie's death should not have so much air time! And saying 'especially as I couldn't stand the bloke anyway.' Good grief!!!' What a miserable bunch of old curmudgeons some of you are! Hmm

I see your point, but 70 years on the BBC is quite exceptional. I would absolutely expect them to make a fuss of his passing TBH.

Thanks HelenaDove.

Unfortunately cowardly murders by Islamic people are becoming everyday news now. The current ones have been covered in the news all day with very little to be updated.

Whilst Bruce Forsyth dying is one person in relation to the many that lost their lives in these attacks, he was someone that many people felt they knew and that touched the lives of many people, the people who loved him deserve the time on the news given his celebrity status. he will only die once whereas unfortunately the attacks in Spain this week will soon be yesterday's news when the next attack happens.

I could see what was coming when we had Sophie Raworth in mourning clothes to read the evening news.
We swiftly moved on to Netflix and intend to stay away from BBC for the next week at least.

Well the news is just that it happens, its random and that's all there is to it how a broadcaster presents it is another matter Barcelona was mainly yesterday and we know as much as i think three is to know now, the Finnish incident we maybe don't now all there is but old Bruce well he's just been a fixture in my 60 odd year existence remember him in Sunday night at the London palladium around what was it 1958, compulsive viewing for all the family In those days!

Decent old boy, never abused anyone was just himself meet him very briefly one immediately stuck me as very genuine and he bought a lot fun happiness into peoples living rooms. OK sum of it may be jaded these days but happiness!

Not the misery that some of the murderous nutters want to propagate.

Was watching the BBC at 5.15pm when they went to a special news flash, I was very apprehensive.

I couldn't believe it when they announced that BF had died, how on earth did it warrant an unscheduled visit to the news room?

Livingdiisgracefully · 19/08/2017 00:29

Newsnight on BBC had an extremely in-depth, extended analysis of the Barcelona attacks, with interviews and background of terrorist attacks in Spain.

Really, sometimes editors make a judgement call, based on what information is new, what other shows have been devoted to this incident, etc. Just because you didn't like their decision in this case doesn't mean the BBC does not take news seriously.

I'm a bit sick of the BBC being the punchbag for TV on here. I'd really go crazy if I had to watch some of the other channels all the time. Sky are you listening? The BBC has to appeal to a wide demographic and may not always get everything right but ffs it's never easy to keep all of the people happy all of the time.

LenaDunham · 19/08/2017 00:39

Bruce Forsyth made first ten minutes of news at 10??

He was about 10 minutes from the end of channel 4 news tonight, which seems about right.

Never understood why he was held in such high esteem?

heateallthebuns · 19/08/2017 00:56

How do they get the celebrities to join in the obituaries while the subjects are still alive. Seems tasteless to me. If I was asked I'd feel really awkward.

ememem84 · 19/08/2017 08:27

I watched the Bruce thing at 7. And wondered whether it had been prepared to celebrate his 70th year in the business? We thought the only one who looked visibly upset by it was anton du beke so wondered whether maybe he'd been interviewed that afternoon?

I'm pretty sure though they've got these sorts of things waiting for other people (the Queen, Attenborough etc)

Shock That's appalling. Trump was ponying up to nuke North Korea barely 10 days ago and there have been two significant terrorist attacks in the last 48 hours. Brucie's death most definitely does not warrant a breaking news alert.
