Lead story on News at 10 was Bruce Forsyth dies, with tributes and analysis lasting over 10 minutes.
In other news... multiple murders in Spain from terrorist attacks...

YANBU. Tonights news was the first I've managed to sit and watch since yesterday. To see the Spain story second after ten minutes of Bruce I didn't agree with. It seemed very self centered of the BBC, and imo the Barcelona attacks should have been headline news still tonight, with the death of an entertainment star second.

ffffffsake · 18/08/2017 22:35

YANBU - couldn't stand the bloke though so I'm biased towards not watching anything about him!

ShoesHaveSouls · 18/08/2017 22:37

Yabu. Barcelona is devastating, and headline worthy, but happened yesterday afternoon/evening. I've been watching and reading about it for over 24hrs.

Plus, it wasn't 10mins about Brucie, then Barcelona. They went through all the headlines - then did 10mins on Brucie.

Time4adrink · 18/08/2017 22:38

Glad it's not just me.
Like Puff I've not been able to see the news all day so was looking for a proper update on Spain and US news too.

Barcelona has been on a regurgitating 36 hour loop. The marvels of the internet etc is being able to self source news you want to watch.

sunglassally · 18/08/2017 22:40

Take my advice. Do not watch TV news again. It is so biased, repetetive and depressing depending on the channel. Breaking news app is the way to go now. And the MSM know it.

Sorry for Brucie, but he had a long innings and should be remembered fondly.

He, along with the victims of all terrorist atrocities stay in the news max one day sadly. Such is life, and we all move on.

ShoesHaveSouls · 18/08/2017 22:44

The BBC is not biased - it is a reputable news provider. The unverified crap regurgitated on Facebook and the like is what you should beware of.

Crumbs1 · 18/08/2017 22:48

Personally I didnt like Bruce Forsyth. The tributes were excessive and very little mention of Sierra Leone deaths.

Wonders71 · 18/08/2017 22:50

Thought the same x

milliemolliemou · 18/08/2017 22:50

there are carefully stored obits on most important people on all media - more necessary in tv and radio since it takes more time than words and pictures.

Bourdic · 18/08/2017 22:53

YABVVU to watch BBC News - I gave it up years ago. Only C4 news allowed in this house - news for grown ups

BubbleAnimal · 18/08/2017 22:53

The BBC is not biased - it is a reputable news provider*

Sorry, just going to have a wee laugh at that. I'm hoping that sentence was sarcasm?

Granted, they are more reputable than most online and social media news stations, but if you think they're unbiased you are wrong.

ShoesHaveSouls · 18/08/2017 23:00

Well they're biased in favour of having Nigel Farage on every other programme, or reporting his soundbites every other day - is that what you meant? (Probably not Wink )

The interesting thing about the BBC is that everyone always accuses them of bias - left and right, brexit and remain. Which probably means they have it about right.

Timefortea99 · 18/08/2017 23:14

No, I kind of like the fact that he got a long coverage. Him dying will only happen once. Let's face reality, terrorist attacks will go on and on. This is now our normality.

Sequence · 18/08/2017 23:14

It was a very refreshing change to see a talented dancer/musician/entertainer as top headline. Shame this only happens when someone dies! Sport on the other hand gets far too much priority over other news.

Viviennemary · 18/08/2017 23:22

The BBC is not biased. It is I'm afraid. In general. Not speaking about tonight's news. Very left wing now.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 18/08/2017 23:23

There was a terrorist attack in Finland this afternoon ffs!
I love Bruce but there was a mass stabbing in Europe THIS AFTERNOON!!!
The death of dear Bruce was not, by any stretch, the most newsworthy thing that happened in the world today.

LockedOutOfMN · 18/08/2017 23:30

Agree with you, OP. Bruce was much loved and deserves his spot on the news, but Spain and Finland first, please.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 18/08/2017 23:31

For people, like my mum for example, without internet access, giving prominence to an entertainer who has been around for so many years, is perfectly reasonable. If you are not happy with the TV news coverage of a story that is not 'new', you can, I'm sure, find what you're looking for on the internet.

HelenaDove · 18/08/2017 23:31

Channel 4 news is my go to news programme.

Liz McKean also passed away today.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-40981585?#

HelenaDove · 18/08/2017 23:32

"Ex-BBC News correspondent Liz MacKean has died after suffering a stroke.
MacKean, 52, worked for the corporation for more than 20 years but left in in 2013 amid a row over the decision to shelve her investigation for Newsnight about disgraced DJ Jimmy Savile.
She began her career at BBC Hereford and Worcester, before presenting on Breakfast and reporting from Northern Ireland and Scotland.
MacKean went on to work on Channel 4's Dispatches programme.
BBC director of news James Harding paid tribute to MacKean, saying she had earned a reputation as a "remarkably tenacious and resourceful reporter".
"In Northern Ireland, she won the trust of all sides and produced some of the most insightful and hard-hitting reporting of the conflict," he said.
"It was as an investigative reporter that she really shone, shining a light on issues from the dumping of toxic waste off the African coast to Jimmy Savile, the story for which she is probably best known."
The mother-of-two studied at Manchester University and gained a post-graduate diploma in broadcast journalism before joining the BBC.
MacKean's story about the child abuse committed by Jimmy Savile was dropped by Newsnight in 2011. But the investigation with producer Meirion Jones was later recognised by the London Press Club with a scoop of the year award.
She also won the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding International Investigative Journalism for her work on a series of Newsnight reports in 2010 about toxic dumping in West Africa.
MacKean announced she was taking voluntary redundancy from the BBC in May 2013.
Her Dispatches programme, Hunted, about the persecution of gay people in Russia, was among the winners at the Grierson British Documentary Awards in 2014."

cdtaylornats · 18/08/2017 23:40

The Finns haven't said the knifing was a terrorist attack. It may just have been a crime.

badbadhusky · 18/08/2017 23:46

The Brucie love-in at 7pm was sickening, although I'll nail my colours to the mast and say I couldn't abide him. We used to record Strictly so we could ffwd all his bits. DH & I muted the obit show at 7pm to facetime with family and he got through 2 wives during the (relatively short) call. I would LOVE to hear his first wife & 3 daughters' views on how it felt to be dumped when he struck it big. Hmm

badbadhusky · 18/08/2017 23:47

And I agree with everyone who said this should not have been lead story.
