To complain

Doorbell just rang. I went to the door straight away but could see through the living room window that no one was there. Assumed it was kids messing about as we have an alleyway down the side. But then I noticed a woman across the road ringing my neighbours door bell, putting a package on the ground then jogging to her car.
So then I opened the door and there's 2 Amazon packages on the ground. DP is building a new computer so it's a couple of expensive computer parts! But really it doesn't matter what it is.

I mean I was in and my car was in the driveway so I suppose it's reasonable to assume someone would see them? We have 2 cars though so we could have been out. Even being in though, I would have missed them if she hadn't gone across the road.

So aibu to complain? Feel bad possibly getting someone in trouble and I know they are given a big workload with low pay. Not sure if I should just leave it.

Too add I live on a busy road and my front garden isn't private. Anyone walking by could have seen them.

But you didn't answer the door when she knocked. Very weird

Lenl · 18/08/2017 14:56

It took me about 5 seconds to get to the door and no one was there. My frony window is right next to the front door. Hence I didn't open it.
She was ringing bells once she'd put the packages on the ground then jogging away

My delivery men, Hermes usually, don't ring the doorbell. They prefer to knock with their knuckles......quietly.

Letstryagainshallwe · 18/08/2017 15:02

It's obviously in there policy that things can be left outside as I had my dds cot left outside my front door in a busy main road

IDoDaChaCha · 18/08/2017 15:03

We have dogs who let off thunderous protestations if anyone dares open the gate (the loudest is a toy poodle if you can believe it Grin) so I always know if there's a delivery, usually before they get chance to knock. The Royal Mail were once 'too frightened' of my toy poodle to deliver a parcel. It was hilarious. I don't think dogs have opppsible thumbs to open locked doors...

IDoDaChaCha · 18/08/2017 15:05

P.s. most parcel delivery people will leave parcels outside a property. I've only had Yodel refuse to (I asked them to- clearly my property is protected from thieves by the ferocious toy poodle...)

YouRat · 18/08/2017 15:07

Amazion usually have an option for you to put a in a safe place if you're not in.

YouRat · 18/08/2017 15:08

Amazon *

Notmyrealname85 · 18/08/2017 15:10

She probably had x amount of deliveries to make and wanted to get it over with - but should've waited at least a minute to see if you were in!

Aren't Toy Poodles horrible, highly strung little dogs prone to biting?

Farfromtheusual · 18/08/2017 15:24

YANBU Op, I have constant problems with the Amazon delivery staff in my area, they ring the bell and knock the door, then open the front door and chuck the package in the porch then run back to their van and drive off. Yes, I get my package but I would still have got my package if they'd waited the 30 seconds it takes to get downstairs and to the door! I've complained numerous times and got a free month of prime or a £5 gift card!

LoyaltyAndLobster · 18/08/2017 15:24

No I wouldn't complain, you've got your parcels.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 18/08/2017 15:31

Isn't it down to the company sending it to make sure they use a service that requires a signature? How would the courier know what parcels were of value and which weren't, they are under huge pressure to get a stupid amount of deliveries done in a day.

IDoDaChaCha · 18/08/2017 15:43

manhowdy only ones I've seen like that have been spoilt. My dogs have rules. He's a very sweet little dog. But he's got a loud voice, which I appreciate as it's good security. Any dog can be a shithead if it has poor leadership but yes small breeds are more prone to having Napoleon-esque problems.

Lenl · 18/08/2017 15:55

I don't think I'll complain as like others have said I've got my parcel so it's fine. It's just not very good really. It's over £500 of stuff, fulfilled by Amazon. Surprised they wouldn't send it needing a signature. Or maybe they did. It's easy enough for the driver to fake sign I suppose.

But Royal Mail don't know you're a responsible dog owner. As hilarious as you find it, being mauled by a dog is a bit of a shit start to your working day.

Elphame · 18/08/2017 16:06

I'd complain and have. Amazon Logistics routinely deposit my parcels on the door step. Most of the time they don't even bother ringing the bell. The delivery confirmation says "handed to resident". No it wasn't.

I've lost count of the times my partner has come home and found a soggy cardboard box on the driveway and I've been in all day. I now only order from them if I can't find the item from another retailer.

MyheartbelongstoG · 18/08/2017 16:10

Don't complain about her she did nothing wrong!!

YetAnotherDayIsHere · 18/08/2017 16:13

Amazon always leave things on my doorstep (this was after I complained about them being left in my wheelie bin). Usually they do ring the doorbell but they don't ever wait for me to answer the door. However, sometimes they just leave on the doorstep and walk off without drawing any attention to it at all. I have complained loads but it makes no difference.

thehousethatjillbuilt · 18/08/2017 16:32

Amazon don't always wrap their parcels.

I had a large smart tv in its box (so displaying what it was) left on my doorstep in full view of the road whilst I was at work a few years ago.

My neighbours were worried about it so they took it in.

When I got home and got the note saying they'd left it on the doorstep and it wasn't there I panicked and called Amazon - who didn't seem particularly worried and were going to send another one.

Then when my neighbours popped over with it I had to call Amazon back and tell them it was all fine and I'd got it now.

I guess it cuts their costs and if they occasionally have to replace something they can afford to take the hit!

catmumof1 · 18/08/2017 16:37

Definitely complain or comment back to amazon, DP ordered a bottle of very expensive whiskey from amazon and they left it in our outside bin. He sent them a message complaining about leaving something that should have been signed for by an adult in a public space as it could have ended up in the wrong hands.
They refunded him the entire amount even though he didn't ask for a refund.

minoandolphin · 18/08/2017 16:43

Don't complain about her she did nothing wrong!!

What? She left parcels on an open (ie not secure) doorstep without waiting for someone to get to the door and then fucked off? How is this ok?

My mum's had the problem - as she is disabled it takes her a little time to get to the door. They'd literally knock and leave; sometimes just dumping parcel on the doorstep, sometimes take the parcel with them leaving 'sorry you were out' cards. Every time she rearranged redelivery she had the same problem; the only alternative was to collect from depot which she couldn't do as unable to drive with her disability.

They should make every effort to deliver a parcel safely and securely.

Delivered by Hermes by any chance? My Hermes woman disappears so quickly after ringing the doorbell I can only assume she teleports.
