To complain

Doorbell just rang. I went to the door straight away but could see through the living room window that no one was there. Assumed it was kids messing about as we have an alleyway down the side. But then I noticed a woman across the road ringing my neighbours door bell, putting a package on the ground then jogging to her car.
So then I opened the door and there's 2 Amazon packages on the ground. DP is building a new computer so it's a couple of expensive computer parts! But really it doesn't matter what it is.

I mean I was in and my car was in the driveway so I suppose it's reasonable to assume someone would see them? We have 2 cars though so we could have been out. Even being in though, I would have missed them if she hadn't gone across the road.

So aibu to complain? Feel bad possibly getting someone in trouble and I know they are given a big workload with low pay. Not sure if I should just leave it.

I'd complain, as anything left outside my house would be taken within the hour. It isn't relevant how much the parcel contents are worth - even if they cost you £2.99, it is something you have ordered and paid for to be delivered to a person at your hose, not left on a step for anyone passing to take.
I realise the drivers are probably on a low wage / poor T&Cs, but that won't change unless people give feedback to the companies that it isn't good enough.

I live in an upper floor flat. Last time Amazon delivered something they rang the entry phone, I buzzed them in (so clearly someone was home)... And then they left the parcel with my downstairs neighbour. Obviously couldn't be bothered with stairs.

IDoDaChaCha · 18/08/2017 19:35

manhowdy again, dogs can't open locked doors. So away with your paranoia.

IDoDaChaCha · 18/08/2017 19:36

thehousethatjillbuilt you could've got 2-4-1 tvs there ha Grin

TuttiFruttiCutie · 18/08/2017 19:55

Manhowdy, yes very funny HmmNot everyone is comfortable around dogs regardless of size- the smallest tend to be the yappiest and most hyper! Sorry but you obviously can't see it from both sides. And, yes (responsible) dog owner here Wink

Back on thread, no don't complain- package arrived but I do understand your concern.

Letstryagainshallwe · 18/08/2017 19:58

A lot of places don't think they should come upstairs so when he rang the buzzer he probably expected you to meet him downstairs. I once had this with a delivery guy he told me I should give him £2 for coming up the stairs

SmilingButClueless · 18/08/2017 20:14

I normally do, but by the time I'd got downstairs they'd gone!

Redadmiralflyer · 18/08/2017 20:23

I'm a postie and when I go to someone's door and see packages lying there from other companies I am shocked. They are always in full view of the public walking past or left out in the rain!
There's been times ive moved the package to the shed and wrote a note to explain it was going to get wet or what ever.
I've noticed as well when I get a package they knock the door and then go straight round the back to put in garden. They don't even give you enough time to get downstairs.
I always wonder if they are pressured to get deliveries done by a certain time.

Lenl · 18/08/2017 21:12

Not Hermes Spam it's Amazon courier but same set up just random people delivering in the cars.

I love my postie Red, which he did all my deliveries! I think they must be pressured. A friend did multi drop deliveries for a big company once and the number of deliveries was crazy. I always let dpd/yodel etc drivers out at junctions and things because I know how pressured they are. But they still tend to follow procedures. They sometimes put stuff in my recycling bin but I don't mind that.
I think the people doing courier work in their own cars probably get paid a pittance and are employed very casually. The kind if job you'd see on gumtree. Probably makes it hard to care.

I would complain. Amazon has become terrible since they started using their own courier. they never knock my door. I'll be sat in the front room and will see them walk up the drive put the box down by the door and walk off again. yet miraculously the delivery details always say parcel handed to resident Hmm

every single flippin time!

journeyjourney · 18/08/2017 21:24

Len my DB looked at a job delivering parcels as self employed (like the Amazon drivers). he said the pay was shocking, so yes they are under so much pressure to deliver the parcels and quickly. the bigger companies that employ people directly pay a lot better.
