...to start a campaign for more women's toilets?

We are now in the 21st century so why do women still tolerate queues for loos? You all know what it's like to be busting for a p & watching the lads go in & out in 30secs while you wait 15 minutes just to get in the door.

This is still happening in new buildings & shopping centres. Why? It doesn't take a brain surgeon to work this out surely?

OverTheHammer · 17/08/2017 22:08

That's because men don't have to wait for cubicles though?

Maybe female urinals could work

ErrolTheDragon · 17/08/2017 22:18

In addition to it taking longer for women to have a pee, there's obviously also dealing with periods and more kids going in with mum than dad. In addition to more women's loos, shopping centres etc should have a few 'parent and child' ones (the Trafford centre does)

WorraLiberty · 17/08/2017 22:23

Every time this thread comes up, people point out that men don't tend to spend long in front of the mirrors/at the sinks.

Also, they don't have to fanny about with clothing etc, just to have a wee.

It's not the lack of toilets, it's the amount of time people spend in them.

tiredbutFINE · 17/08/2017 22:58

I'm a fast wee-er. I am often in and out and the queue still hasn't moved in that time. I'm not sure how so many women can actually spend so long in a public toilet Envy - not envy

BadHatter · 17/08/2017 23:00

Please do a root cause analysis to get to the bottom of this. Five why should do it. You may need more.

Start with:

Why the heck do lines form outside of women's bathrooms?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 17/08/2017 23:04

tired

Same here

And the queue for the toilet is usually for the cubicle not the sink area...though i agree that can get a bit full

If people arent using the sink I generally say excuse me and lean over for the tap...that's virtually never happened though. Nightclubs perhaps (so long ago!!)

MrsMuddlePluck · 20/08/2017 10:33

I find the queue really is just wanting a pee. We use cubicles so we need more. Not rocket science.

The fact is there's a queue outside the ladies & never the mens. QED

OP posts:
Grimbles · 20/08/2017 10:38

On the point about taking kids in with you. It would be nice if there was at least 1 sink at a kid friendly height in public loos as well.

BossyBitch · 20/08/2017 10:42

For years, I used to dash to the gents when I really just needed a quick pee. I only stopped because I obviously managed to completely mortify some poor sod and then felt sorry. And, no, I never fuss around in front of the mirrors, etc.

OP, YANBU, the time we spend queuing for the loos is ridiculous.

elevenclips · 20/08/2017 10:44

This is really really annoying and inconvenient. Not just a UK problem either. Have seen this in Europe as well. It would help if there were "women" "men" "disabled" "unisex/family"

QueenLaBeefah · 20/08/2017 10:44

YANBU.

Bodicea · 20/08/2017 10:49

It's the main reason I refuse to go to the races unless it's in the most expensive bit.

Yes, I get flamed for everything I say on toilet threads but yes more ladies toilets. For lots of reasons but mainly cause there needs to be more, demand outstripping supply.
Also because toilets aren't designed properly - rarely is the size of sanitary bins taken into account.
The double door or corner required for privacy is a lot of wasted space and needs redesigned.
There's a lot of dead spaces regarding toilets to that needs redisgned but no one listens.
But the main reason is more are needed!

BusterTheBulldog · 20/08/2017 11:10

Urinals in ladies loos to use shepees would be great.

teaandtoast · 20/08/2017 11:13

And bigger cubicles too. You can barely get the door shut on some of them without having one leg in the toilet.

AgentProvocateur · 20/08/2017 11:17

But some women spend ages in the cubical! They're probably the ones covering the seat in loo roll, then hovering. At the Edinburgh festival yesterday, I stood in a queue for six cubicles, went in and peed, and when I came out the person behind me in the queue was still there.

Kpo58 · 20/08/2017 11:17

There does need to be far more cubicles in the Ladies. When you are at the Theatre, women end up spending the entire interval queueing up for the lips as there tends to be only 3 cubicles per floor for women.

They also need to make sure that in EVERY baby changing room, there needs to be a loo. It's useful for parents with babies and slightly older children or just parents with prams who need the toilet (and no you cannot always physically get a pram into the gendered toilets and that's before finding that there isn't space for a pram in a cubicle).

KarateKitten · 20/08/2017 11:17

I think unisex loos are the way to go.

brasty · 20/08/2017 11:19

Yes we need more toilets.
And it does take longer for women. I am bleeding for 1 week out of 4. During that week I don't just wee. I have to take out and put in a tampax, change my towel, and try and mop up any blood that has gone astray. Of course it is going to take longer.

brasty · 20/08/2017 11:20

But lets blame women for having periods and for having to take young kids into the loo with them.

Peachyking000 · 20/08/2017 11:28

How are you going to implement it though? Yes I would like more female toilet cubicles too, but I can't see how private companies could be forced to install them.

Fluffyears · 20/08/2017 11:30

Drives me mental I go in pee and flush and come out but I see people go in and it takes them ages. Not all of them are dealing with their period. Even if I am it takes less than a minute to put a new pad in my undies whilst peeing.

brasty · 20/08/2017 11:30

Peachyking Planning regulations.

Ewanwhosearmy · 20/08/2017 11:34

Perhaps it would help the buck the trend that women are always responsible for children?

Stopped at a really busy Mway service station yesterday. Massive queue for the ladies, as usual. Woman in front of me with 3 small boys and a man. Man swans off into the gents on his own, leaving woman with all 3 kids. Why don't men take their own kids to the loo, leaving other women with a smaller queue? Just a thought.
