Have you filled the hols so far with days out or mostly cheap days in the park or at home etc?

I openly admit I'm wanting to do a comparison to see if our summer holidays are boring and cheap compared to everyone else's.

OP posts:
NearlyEaster · 17/08/2017 20:07

A mix of both but what looks like lots of expensive days out are relatively cheap because of annual memberships.

spankhurst · 17/08/2017 20:09

Few days in Devon staying with family.
Youth Hostelling with friends.
One visit to National Trust place.
One morning indoor climbing.
We're going to Cornwall for a few days in the last week.

TheMasterNotMargarita · 17/08/2017 20:12

A real mix.
Some holiday camp as not enough AL to cover.
A few days out but one was a birthday treat. Most of the days out have been visiting friends or family so not expensive. One cinema trip.
Lots of walking/cycling/cleaning/slobbing.

WreckTangled · 17/08/2017 20:12

Park with friends
Local farm park (membership) x5(!)
Local NT (membership)
Scouting along the promenade at the beach
Ice cream parlour
Shoe shopping Hmm
Kite flying

BarbarianMum · 17/08/2017 20:12

Lots of trips to the park, 1 x cinema, 3 days walking in countryside, 1x local leisure pool w friends, 1 x trip to LEGOLAND, 1 x canoeing. All the rest is playing out w friends.

SpiritedLondon · 17/08/2017 20:13

Ummm a few days at holiday club at the start of the hols. Kids cinema, library, a week abroad ( doing lots of stuff) - now visiting relatives in Cornwall, have done beach, Eden project etc. Off to Scotland at the end of the hols and not sure what we're doing there apart from some Highland Games - hopefully not a lot because it's been pretty full on.

JellyMouldJnr · 17/08/2017 20:14

I work FT so have needed a fair amount of childcare. On my days off we have done:
centerparcs (expensive!)
days out: adventure playground, library, all the local playgrounds, sweet shops etc. horse riding.
Childcare activities have been a mixture of cheap (out of school club) and expensive (more activity based)

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 17/08/2017 20:14

we have Geocached every country park, wood, riverside and forest in a 50 mile radius!!!

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 17/08/2017 20:15

Disneyland for four days, then a week of play dates, cinema and London touristy stuff, then holiday to Denmark, then drama summer camp for a week... next week camping in the new forest (please be dry!)

SpiritedLondon · 17/08/2017 20:16

spankhurst I'm interested in the youth hosteling... that sounds fun. Do you take children and if so do you mind me asking how old they are?

SagelyNodding · 17/08/2017 20:22

I'm lucky to live near the sea in a sunny place... and to have most of the summer off work. So beach practically every day, a few expensive days out to waterparks etc, canoeing, one (horrendous) night of camping, playing boules... Nothing extravagant, no family break as DH works almost every day in summer. But I have really enjoyed myself, as have the DC, and some of the best days have also been the cheapest to be honest.

WreckTangled · 17/08/2017 20:23

Oh and next week is pretty full;

Dentist
Lunch with my sister
Park with friends
London to see horrible histories live

It's going so quickly pleased the weather has perked up though

PandasRock · 17/08/2017 20:26

Mix of:

Local pop up trails (a couple at different shopping centres, a hospice one)

Cinema, although kids club/juniors has been crap this year, so only once for Cars 3.

National trust places

I've made a point of finding a different playground each week to visit - a new environment sparks interest in what is essentially the same old equipment.

Kids theatre - have been to 3 shows with another one coming up next week. Not particularly cheap, but mostly birthday outings, plus kids scheme at leisure centre have put on a couple relatively cheaply (£5 each to go, so cheaper than the cinema!)

Local ish garden centre has a nature trail/animal shelter attached, so we've been there a couple of times (annual pass, so essentially free as has been well used)

Library once a week to complete summer reading challenge.

We've also had 3 birthdays, so shopping for those plus baking and decorating cakes has filled a few days! And new toys means a couple of days of less whinging...

Plus legoland, and will go to Chessingron too (we have Merlin passes)

I am 6 weeks into summer holidays and beginning to flag a bit, but only 2 1/2 more weeks to go Grin

Ninjakittysmells · 17/08/2017 20:26

I have done too much - I was made redundant and so I have the summer 'off' and really wanted to make most of it.

We have done a holiday to Dorset, trip to legoland, an outdoors activity week, surfing, tennis lessons together, trip to a farm, trampolining, some national trust days, and some play dates...... oh! And a few theatre and cinema trips!

Ds has 9 weeks off and these next 3 weeks we are just going to chill! Our normal summers are usually me working none stop and him pottering at grandmas!

PumpkinPie2016 · 17/08/2017 20:27

We spent a week in the lakes and are coming to the end of a week in Cornwall.

Other than that we have some library/park/one soft play visit/seeing family locally and relaxing at home.

Last two weeks will be relaxing at home /library/park/seeing family and maybe a farm visit.

Towards the end I will be getting ready to go back to work.

I8toys · 17/08/2017 20:28

Camp for youngest for first 2 weeks and then next week
Eldest going to dad's workshop to make things
Cinema many times
Swimming many times
Eldest joined a gym
Edinburgh Fringe for 3 days
London to see Wicked, go to Sky Garden
Loire Valley for a week

0hCrepe · 17/08/2017 20:30

1 week away, then swimming, park, countryside, zoo, seeing friends, couple of days with family, family staying, shopping and summer school

Equimum · 17/08/2017 20:30

We started with a camping music festival. DS has been at holiday club two days each week. Trips to a maize maze, jousting event, local fan park have been our only 'pricey' days out so far. We have also been to local fun park (membership) and visited lots of local NT places (membership also). Other days we have visited the local free paddling pool or splashpad, parks and national playday event. The only things different planned for the rest of the holiday are a long weekend camping and day at another local farm park.

madrose · 17/08/2017 20:31

one week chilling with friends etc.
one week scout camp (me too)
Third week - three days in Edinburgh (stayed with family)
Forth week - three days in Paris
Fifth week - will be in South West (staying with family)
Sixth week - home - getting ready to go back.

Handy having family all over the place!!

TwatteryFlowers · 17/08/2017 20:31

We've baked a couple of times, been to town a few times, incl. to the town centre beach day last weekend, been to the park and had a big day trip to an open air museum a few weeks ago. We're planning on going to a couple of EH and NT places next week and then the following week we're off on a 4-day seaside holiday in a caravan. Mostly though we've stayed at home and the dc have played inside or in the garden. I wish we could afford to do more or go further afield but unfortunately we're skint!

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 17/08/2017 20:37

I've started a new job and it's pretty full on with long hours. Luckily I've been able to wfh often and so has dh. Youngest has done activities like dance, gymnastics and football. Older boys have met up with friends a lot. Other activities include bowling once a week, paintballing, family bbq, sleepover and two premier league football matches in London. On Sunday we are off to south of France for 2 weeks, then home and back to school! I think they've enjoyed the hols, I tried not to make them do too much and get time to slob about

AliTheMinx · 17/08/2017 20:39

11 days in Mallorca
1 museum visit
4 National Trust visits
Arboretum visit
Swimming
Lots of park visits/scooting
Lots of library visits (Reading Challenge)
Several playdates
1 zoo visit
4 grandparent days (2 more pending)
10 days in total in holiday camp
3 cinema trips
Garden Centre (lots to do there!)
Adventure Playground day out
Quite a few lunches out and about
The odd quiet day at home (Lego, games, train tracks, DVDs, etc)

WhenTheDragonsCame · 17/08/2017 20:39

We have family memberships to national trust and wetlands centres so we have had a few days out to those.

We have been to London and saw horrible histories at the theatre then went to the park.

Younger 2 DDs are doing the library reading challenge so we have been to the library a couple of times. They have also done a couple of their free activity sessions.

I have worked a bit so they have been with the childminder or friends/family.

They have done some extra swimming lessons focusing on a particular stroke.

We are going away at Christmas so haven't had a holiday other than a few days visiting my parents.

We went to a small Cornish theme park yesterday for DD3s birthday.

We haven't had many days where we haven't been out but most haven't cost very much.

NoCapes · 17/08/2017 20:40

We made a list at the beginning of the holidays and are ticking our way through it
So far we have done
Rock climbing
Local swimming
Sandcastle waterpark
Airport viewing area
Blackpool air show
Safari park
Soft play
Library
Trampolining
Legoland discovery centre
Plus countless play dates/sleepovers/movie days & stuff at home

The kids are away with my parents atm so we've a few things planned for next week then nothing for the final week but uniform shopping, chilling at home and getting back to routine ready for school to start again Sad

spankhurst · 17/08/2017 20:44

spirited It is pretty cheap. We got 2 family rooms for 5 kids and 3 adults for 3 nights; it was about £300. The kids were between 6 and 10. It was clean and friendly and you could order a breakfast and evening meal. I do recommend it.
