To think the hotel shouldn't allow this?

On holiday in Croatia (which is lovely). Yesterday a sign appears in our hotel and under everyone's door saying the pool will be closed for tomorrow for a private wedding party. Now there is only one pool in the hotel and the hotel isn't advertised as one that does weddings and nothing was mentioned in the reviews. We were planning on being out and about today anyway so it doesn't actually impact on us but aibu in thinking that you should be able to use the only pool in your hotel?

To think the hotel shouldn't allow this?

I'd be pissed off.

poppym12 · 17/08/2017 13:19

It is bloody cheeky but I doubt it will ruin your break wombat. Good excuse to hop on a boat and see other lovely places and get away from plane watching - as you've found out. Enjoy Wine. I think it was one of the prettiest places I've been, short-haul from the UK.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 17/08/2017 13:21

Yes, I'd be really pissed off! I tend to spend at least a small part of every day on holiday in the hotel pool - as does pool mad 6 year old DD.

When you book & pay for a holiday you are choosing & paying for use of their facilities for the duration of your stay. Of course, something unforeseen can crop up, but this is different.

If the hotel close the pool every time they host a wedding - even if they don't have many weddings - then it should be made clear that this is a possibility on booking.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/08/2017 13:22

The Cavtat Hotel has a rooftop pool, it's about 4 years old (the pool not the hotel) and it's a nice spot for a wedding although I totally sympathise with the Op. I'm dealing with a legal claim at present for the same thing (travel firm legal dept), different hotel in Italy**
It's a shame the Cavtat is no longer part of the same group as the Albatros (out the hotel to the right, 10 min walk) as you could possibly have asked for a day pass for their pool (nobody might notice if you popped in anyway). I'd suggest you speak to someone at the front desk to see if an agreement can be reached to perhaps use that pool for a few hours.

** this pool was closed for weddings 5 days out of 7 for weddings 😟😟😩😩

You say yourself you weren't planning on using it that day anyway Confused

allwornout0 · 17/08/2017 13:37

Have had similar problems in hotels in the UK.
Save up and look forward to a nice relaxing quiet weekend away without the children to find the we can't book a table in the hotel restaurant because of a wedding, can't get to sleep at night due to the wedding disco and can't use the hotel pool due to swimming lessons.
Never are warned about these things by the hotel.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 17/08/2017 13:38

If this isn't challenged then eventually it could become the norm

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 17/08/2017 13:45

I don't see a problem; it's one day. I'm sure people can find something else to do that day.

HotelEuphoria · 17/08/2017 13:46

I would also ask for a partial refund. You have paid for access to the pool and no longer have it, but the hotel ahs also taken money from the wedding party so in effect a double booking with them being the one to benefit.

It's the principle, they will continue to do this whilst they can get away with it.

GarlicGrace · 17/08/2017 13:59

this pool [in Italy] was closed for weddings 5 days out of 7 ShockShockShock

Clearly a hotel moneyspinner that holidaymakers should DEFINITELY complain about on Tripadvisor! Unless the hotels advertise a lovely pool but residents can't use it. Which they don't, of course, do they?

GarlicGrace · 17/08/2017 14:00

I would use the pool anyway. Just to make a point Grin

The point that you're a dick?

maddiemookins16mum · 17/08/2017 14:13

I bet you wouldn't just use the pool anyway. How ridiculous.

pasturesgreen · 17/08/2017 14:16

^This.

Surely, if the whole point of a holiday is lounging around the hotel pool, one could just as well stay in the UK and not go to the bother and expense of a foreign holiday?

aayla · 17/08/2017 14:19

This would annoy me massively.

BlackJesus · 17/08/2017 14:20

I would use the pool anyway. Just to make a point no you wouldn't Hmm

Slimthistime · 17/08/2017 14:23

OP I hardly ever go abroad but guess what happened last time?

half the week the pool was closed for planned maintenance. Buried in the Ts&Cs it was written they had the right to do this anytime. I understand that maintenance needs to be done, but they had 3 pools.

in the end they had so many complaints they opened one of the pools.

so have a look in your Ts & Cs, sadly it's probably in there. My friend did get a load of free soft drink vouchers out of them, which was more useful for me than her Grin

MissionItsPossible · 17/08/2017 14:23

Wow to those saying It doesn't matter! Shock I'd be well annoyed!

NannyRed · 17/08/2017 14:30

I'd mention it to the hotel, you may get a freebie of something. Otherwise just let it go, it's not worth stressing over, just enjoy your holiday.
I agree it's a little cheeky but a wedding in any venue will put part of the pub/restaurant/hotel/venue out f service for Joe Public.

Notso · 17/08/2017 14:35

An underwater wedding perhaps?

Excellent idea! That way we could get wet without actually getting into the pool! Some of us like to be warm Hmm.
