To think Speedos don't make him gay?

So I've developed a bit of a liking for a man I see swimming at my gym. We've exchanged nods and hellos as I see him quite a bit, but nothing beyond that.

I was telling a friend about him and made a comment about how good he looks in his Speedos. She sort of laughed and said, 'Okaaay... I think you're barking up the wrong tree there'. Long story short, she thought the fact that he wears Speedos means he must be gay.

Is it me or is that a bit of a lazy stereotype? I know they're popular with gay men, but surely it's not unusual for someone who swims regularly to wear them? It's not like he was dancing on a podium in a pink sparkly pair.

Of course he could be gay; as I say, we've barely spoken. But is friend being a bit daft to say I shouldn't even bother?

When I was a teenager it was pink shirts that made boys gay. And how you held your ciggie if you smoked. Men and women held their cigarettes differently and a boy or man who held his cigarette in the woman's way ie between his 2 nd and 3rd finger was suspected of being gay.

My other half is a proud speedo wearer when we go on hols. He says he converted to wearing them when he realised that going swimming didn't have to involve getting your willy and balls tied up in that weird netting that swim shorts have.

His brother called him gay for it till he tried speedos and realised how comfortable they are.

Speedos are back in fashion in our swimming club, so I wouldn't read anything into it.

Dh had to get some Speedos for a German holiday (not all pools accept swim shorts) - cue lots of grumbling. Now he wears them to swim at the local pool because he says they are more comfortable.

In my younger and somewhat fitter days, I always wore speedos when swimming. As others have mentioned, speedos are more for those who take swimming a little more serious.

Am I gay? Hmm mm married with three kids, so I think not. (Unless I'm still in a state of denial at 41).

Currently watching my daughter training with her swim squad. All of the boys (they're all teenagers) are wearing Speedo type swimming trunks - anything else is hopeless for competitive swimming.

MMMMMMmmmmmm the water polo team in their speedos is a sight to behold misses point of thread entirely and I can guarantee you that one of them is definitely NOT gay ahem.

My dh wears speedos. He says they're the only thing comfortable under a wetsuit. He loves kayaking.
We have two children and he hasn't shown any indication of being gay - doesn't appear to find other men attractive at all.
He did enjoy watching Le Mis so that means he likes Me Mis.

Growing up, only 'speedo' type trunks existed. Personally glad of the coverage that today's longer shorts give - if I looked like Daniel Craig I might not mind either way.

I'd be horrified if my husband wore a pair. As he's not training for the olympics, he can cover his bits up properly.

'Left is right and right is wrong' I believe was the traditional way to remember how you could be absolutely sure that someone was gay.

That and telling them to look at their nails - if they hold their hand out flat with the palm facing away from them, they are definitely gay. Straight men examine their nails by curling their fingers over as though they are going to punch themselves in the face, as anyone should know.

Aaargh, I've only just got over the trauma of looking up from my holiday sunlounger and coming face to face with a pair of Speedos with an escaped bollock.
