To think a bottle of wine a week isn't too awful?

Background: previously seriously alcoholic parents who have now gone teetotal.

I've never really been a drinker, possibly due to the background above.

But recently I have been getting another a week of the Aldi Australian shiraz wine because my mil bought me some about a month ago and I love the taste of it. So every Monday I have been buying a bottle of it during the weekly shop.

I have a glass every other night or so and my parter has some too. Sometime there is some left at the end of the week.

When I mentioned this to my dm she expressed concern for my 'increased drinking levels'.

It's hard for me to gauge what is normal, and I imagine it is for my dm and df too.

Would you be concerned about this amount of alcohol consumed every week for about a month?

It's absolutely fine nothing to worry about Wine

bbcessex · 15/08/2017 17:48

No. Not at all.

Comtesse · 15/08/2017 17:49

Yanbu

Scoobydoobydont · 15/08/2017 17:49

A bottle a week, sometimes not finished, between two of you?

Not even the slightest tiniest bit of concern here. I doubt it's even enough to ever put you above the drink drive levels.

skyzumarubble · 15/08/2017 17:49

No. I really really wouldn't.

whinesalot · 15/08/2017 17:49

No i drink a lot more. Blush That seems absolutely fine.

ASauvingnonADay · 15/08/2017 17:50

I have a bottle at the weekend (fri/sat eve), but often drink a bottle during the week. Not always and never everyday day (I'm sure I read somewhere you need two days off a week from drinking?). Depends what kind of week it is!
Others would probably say that is a lot.

LittleBearPad · 15/08/2017 17:50

No. A bottle a week is fine. If you find yourself drinking a bottle a night by yourself then you may have a problem.

putdownyourphone · 15/08/2017 17:50

Absolutely fine. I would say any more than 2 glasses every night would be a tad too much, but I do that sometimes so who am I to judge.

ShutTheFridgeUp · 15/08/2017 17:50

Absolutely not! I hardly drink, but this is mostly because I don't like the taste of a lot of things. That being said my partner and I can easily go through a bottle a week of something we do like when the mood takes us.
A bottle a night would concern me, but certainly not one a week that is occasionally shared between two.

KentonArcher · 15/08/2017 17:50

That's about 9 units, if you drink the bottle yourself. 5 fewer than recommended maximum weekly amount. I really really wouldn't worry.

SweetChickadee · 15/08/2017 17:52

You really have nothing to worry about

Bluntness100 · 15/08/2017 17:52

God no, the recommended limits are 14 a week for a woman, there is ten in a bottle of wine and uou don't even always drink it all. Very low alcohol consumption in my view. If I fancy it I can do a bottle In a night and I don't think anyone would considered I'm an alcoholic or have a problem with booze.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/08/2017 17:52

ONE bottle in a week?? That's nothing. Don't let your mother project her issues in you. Tell her to mind her own damn affairs.

NC4now · 15/08/2017 17:53

Not a concern at all. I guess your DM is worried about you increasing your drinking (have I got it right that she previously had a problem?) but if you are going from nothing to a couple of glasses a week, it's fine.

If you suddenly ramp up to a bottle a night, it's time to worry, but at the level you are at, it probably does you more good than harm.

I don't drink at all but one bottle a week shared between 2 adults seems perfectly fine. Well within the 14 units a week recommendation.

squoosh · 15/08/2017 17:56

Absolutely fine. Understandable for your mother to be a bit overly anxious when it comes to your drinking though. She probably frets about you inheriting her (and your father's) former drinking habits.

ImperialBlether · 15/08/2017 18:00

It's clear that your mum has no idea about what normal drinking is and is very anxious in case you inherit the alcoholic gene.

Macncheesewithbacon · 15/08/2017 18:01

A bottle of wine is approx 9 units so no problem.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/08/2017 18:01

Well within guidelines.

AnyFucker · 15/08/2017 18:04

You are not drinking enough. Get some more Smile

dementedpixie · 15/08/2017 18:05

I have that on a Friday night!

SoupDragon · 15/08/2017 18:12

You are not drinking enough. Get some more

Why would you say that to someone who has alcoholic parents?

CheshireChat · 15/08/2017 18:12

If it makes you uneasy you could always not drink 1 week/ month.

I get struggling to gauge normal drinking levels as my dad was an alcoholic. Unsurprisingly, I don't really drink.

But 1 bottle/ week- absolutely fine in my book.
