Child genius on ch 4 - wtf?! (Lighthearted)

Sleeplessinguiltyness · 14/08/2017 20:26

What is even the point?! I just don't get it!

Just seems like a load of pushy parents living through their kids, memorising random words I have never even heard of!

And this poor lad is not being watched by his mum as she's recovering in intensive care, I mean whaaaat??

My child should be on this. Has learned the art of pushing ALL my buttons and isn't even 1.5. That's proper genius.

rabbitcakes · 14/08/2017 20:34

The parents are psychopaths and the kids will be in therapy by 16. That's my professional (wine fuelled) opinion.

Sleeplessinguiltyness · 14/08/2017 20:37

rabbit now that's genius!

I just don't understand the point of learning to spell obscure words

Another language, more advanced stuff if they are interested, but just spelling words that I (at the grand age of 35, with a good degree from reputable university, and a professional career) have no idea of the meaning.... me no understand!

Watching. There are probably two kids on there who are brainbox types who love learning obscure things and enjoy the process for its own sake. Everyone else... pushy parent central.

rabbitcakes · 14/08/2017 20:38

I got one of the Latin fruit questions right.

I'm proud as fuck :p

RainbowJack · 14/08/2017 20:39

Ooooh is it back? I love that series.

bookworm14 · 14/08/2017 20:40

It's awful. These parents want performing monkeys, not children.

There's nothing wrong with loving learning, clearly, but this isn't about learning for the love of it - it's just party tricks.

rabbitcakes · 14/08/2017 20:43

Why are they all in suits?!! This is nuts.

I'm going to give my kid chocolate and pj's tomorrow to balance this shit out.

viques · 14/08/2017 20:48

Poor Oscar, mum in hospital and he doesn't want to go home crying.

I am rooting for him in the tie break, sorry Madison, sorry Tyler's awful pushy mother, but I am invested in Oscar, who seems to be a poppet.

EmmaJR1 · 14/08/2017 20:49

I'm raging at Tyler's Mum and Olivia and Fabio's Mum! Horrid women! Talk about making your children feel inadequate!

KatnissMellark · 14/08/2017 20:53

Hahahahahhaahajah at the guy who thinks his kid is on a par with Einstein and Hawkins. My 5 month old can crawl already, doesn't make him Usain fucking Bolt

KatnissMellark · 14/08/2017 20:53

It mostly makes him a pain in the arse Grin

Hulababy · 14/08/2017 20:54

Googling suggests that the children are given a list of spellings, and revision notes for key topics - so its a memory test really I guess, rather than anything else.

rabbitcakes · 14/08/2017 20:56

Maddison is irritating. No kid loves maths more than sweets.

All smacks of lunatic parents.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/08/2017 20:57

One of dd's good friends was on this a few years ago. He idea her parents weren't overly enthusiastic. She was a loves to read & research obscure subjects for the fun of it type of girl. A bit eccentric.

The main thing I remember was how lots of people on the internet ripped apart her personal appearance!

Fekko · 14/08/2017 20:59

I stopped watching this circus last series.

There's usually a few absolute poppets, some lovely parents - but a load more horrid children and foul, awful pushy parents.

EmmaJR1 · 14/08/2017 21:00

I actually LOL at the dad who said his family are high achievers because he played table tennis for his local council... 😂

Fekko · 14/08/2017 21:01

I won an art competition in primary 2. I'm Picasso!

AlexanderHamilton (love the name Grin ) is that Eleanor? She always sticks in my memory, so intelligent and unafraid to be herself without having awful pushy parents. I was really rooting for her when I watched that series and you could tell her mum was so nervous for her.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/08/2017 21:19

Yes, lovely girl.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/08/2017 21:21

I always want all of the kids to do well, I hate to see any of them upset. Some of their parents though....
