To think if you press the button on the crossing it should be fucking illegal to cross before you get the green man?

If you are stopping the traffic, do not cross when there is a gap in the traffic, you pressed the fucking button so you wait for the green man!

All the stopping and starting adds to the pollution and it really fucks me off when I stop and they have already crossed and are on their merry way!

It can't be just me can it that thinks people who do this are inconsiderate, selfish and rude with no thought for the environment?

Leave The Button?

MrsRhubarb · 14/08/2017 17:51

No I'm not being ridiculous, but I think people who don't drive have no concept

Are people who drive not also allowed to sometimess be pedestrians who have to cross roads?

SayNoToCarrots · 14/08/2017 17:52

I saw a little girl on a scooter crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing the other day. She can't have been more than two. A cyclist sailed past all the stopped cars, right past her nose. He was going so fast the wind lifted up her dress. Her dad shouted at him but he didn't give a shit.

Green men are not safer than a visible gap in traffic.

Therealslimshady1 · 14/08/2017 17:52

How would it help the environment if they then waited for the green man?

How would it make a difference ?

Am I the umpteenth person to ask this? Grin

We need loads more comments for a Mumsnet bingo full house.

We'd need 'lazy parenting', 'safeguarding issue' and 'narcissist' for starters...

MagdalenLaundry · 14/08/2017 17:53

Of course yabu and are you actually safe to drive getting wound up so easily
A pedestrian should wait at an empty road because the green man isn't showingHmm
Pedestrian crossings are crap now. They wait for a massive gap in traffic before they change
If I can get across safely I will do
Even if it causes your BP to ride OPGrin

Has anyone got the bingo master list? Can we have the cards printed off an a block of post-its? Business opportunity here.

Lilmisskittykat · 14/08/2017 18:02

I admit I read no other post but the original one..

I agree... so annoying. Press the button wait for the green man simple

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 14/08/2017 18:03

I don't see your logic in your post... is there meant to be some?

It doesn't matter whether the person waits for the green man or crosses the road when there's a gap, you still need to stop. I'm sure a few seconds won't hurt.

StormTreader · 14/08/2017 18:04

Ah, so the waiting for the green man is a penance for daring to very temporarily stop the flow of Very Important Traffic, got it. Maybe we should scurry across tugging our forelocks as well Grin.

Or, you know, you could "get up earlier, leave earlier etc" so that stopping for 30 seconds doesnt matter so much...

Timeywimey8 · 14/08/2017 18:06

This.

If the lights change "on demand", you wait until they change and then you go.

But there are lights that don't, some for good reason eg in busy areas where they'd be on all the time but others are just really badly set up for pedestrians. If I press the button and a gap appears before the green man comes, I go. However, I do check to see if a gap is likely to appear before I press the button. So I've been waiting some time by the time I decide I can't wait anymore and there's a gap for me.

grannytomine · 14/08/2017 18:06

We need to increase police funding if we want them enforcing a law about crossing when the red is showing. When I called the police because some kids were attacking, and hitting, birds with stones and threatened me when I told them to stop it was over 45 minutes before anyone attended. Can you imagine trying to get them to attend a pressing the button incident?

RatRolyPoly · 14/08/2017 18:10

The green man is an invitation to cross, not a summons.

Mumof56 · 14/08/2017 18:12

YANBU The amount of people who can't use a pedestrian crossing is mind boggling. They really aren't complicated. Green man means go, red means don't

It's very daft to say "it's not complicated......" And then go on to say something completely wrong Grin

CheshireChat · 14/08/2017 18:18

Keep your anger for people who just jump in traffic and expect cars and buses to just stop instantly.

Or play chicken with buses Hmm.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 14/08/2017 18:19

Vast majority of the time the cars won't be held up anyway. All it does is delay them reaching the back of the next queue.

Green man means go, red means don't Confused

Goldmandra · 14/08/2017 18:22

Green man means go, red means don't

Green man is an indicator that the lights are showing red to the traffic, meaning they must stop.

Red man is an indicator that the lights are not preventing the traffic from going over the crossing. That is all.

There is nothing that means don't cross.
