We are on holiday in Austria and Germany, and dd1 aged 16 would like to have a beer. It is legal here for her to drink beer and wine at 16. So MN jury, are we being unreasonable?

Personally I think its the perfect opportunity to take the drama out of alcohol.

This was about 20 years ago, but at 17 I went on a school adventure trip to France. At the parents meeting, the teacher organising it pointed out that it was legal for us to purchase alcohol at the bars on site, and it was logistically impossible for him to police abstinence, and better to openly permit moderate drinking. Only one person out of about 30 on the trip got themselves into a silly state. Everyone else managed to enjoy the opportunity sensibly.

A bit of trust and responsibilities with boundaries usually goes a long way.

My 12 year old wanted to know what vodka tasted like. After having a teaspoon of it neat they decided that adults must be very weird because it was disgusting. Grin

She's probably been bladdered a few times by now, I'd be buying one myself if I was her.

Although a 14 year old keeping pace with grown adults is nothing to be proud of.
I was joking about her keeping pace Hmm

If your nearly 17 year old is excited at the thought of half a beer they are extremely well behaved and you dont have anything to worry about.....

I'll eat my flip flops if she's not already drank alcohol back in the U.K.!
