To not 'get' Pom Bear crisps

What is it with the things?
I've seen threads here where people are listing what their toddlers eat - they've always been listed in a 'these are acceptable' type of way compared to other crisps. I know people who won't feed their child crisps, 'apart from an occasional bag of Pom bears'.

I almost picked up a pack the other day - had a quick scan of the ingredients first - they are small bags but gram for gram they have more salt than walkers ready salted.

Now I don't think any child is going to keel over if they are allowed a few crisps occasionally. I'm certainly not judging. But why do so many people seem to think these are much healthier than normal crisps?

I've seen people judge other parents for allowing junk, but follow it with a comment about how their precious flower is only allowed Pom bear crisps, as if they are better?

Or do I just operate in weird circles.

Leaving aside the arguments about what types of crisps are and aren't chavvy aren't normal crisps, ie the ones made from sliced potato, gluten free, or is ther gluten hidden in some of the flavourings?

They're just right for serving at a naice dinner.

Pom bear, anyone? Wink

Child is coeliac so we think they are great - I also don't really like normal crisps (so maybe I eat them....)

Pond, quavers, skips all less choking risk and they break down-dissolve into the sea of saliva quickly.

Agree poms taste of grease and not even fresh grease.

I also want to know about normal crisps not being gluten-free... I know quavers are a no-no, and Pringles, but I thought crisps were just potato Sad
DD had a bad tummy today...and had crisps earlier (as a v rare treat).

My two youngest like pombears they're in the same kind of category as wotsits, skips and quavers. They enjoy eating them now and again. They are slightly lower fat than normal crisps but the reason I give them is because they are softer and melt in the mouth with no sharp edges to choke.

EccentricPickle · 12/08/2017 15:52

They melt in your mouth so maybe easier for young children to eat/less likely to choke? I dunno.

Love Pom bears though - the pizza ones were lush! Do they still do them?

demirose87 · 12/08/2017 15:52

Think it depends on flavours whether they are gluten free or not. My DB has been coeliac for the past 20 years and the only crisps he likes are pringles, but not all flavours are gluten free. Think most normal crisps are gluten free but he always ha to check.

I think there is often gluten in the flavouring they use Haba depends on the flavour and the brand and they can often change so you have to check each time.

Pom bears market themselves as gluten free though so no need to check each time.

Thank you Denis and pasta, will have to read packets more carefully.
