Husband in ambulance.

He's been in hospital for 2 weeks with gallstones. We were on holiday staying near our parents. I came back home and dh was discharged this morning. Plan was he would stay a night with his parents and back home to me tomorrow. Except now something's happened and he's been blue lighted back to hospital.

I'm panicking and need to not google

Please can someone just hug me :,(

All good...

gobster · 12/08/2017 02:14

Glad to hear! Hope your tea has calmed your nerves so you too can get some rest xx

MrsCK · 12/08/2017 02:25

I feel a lot calmer now. I've been getting chest pains from anxiety since all this happened. They came back again when I got the call tonight. I've just realise they've gone so I might try and sleep a bit

Sending you a hug. Hope you are able to get a little bit of rest. Flowers

I have gallstones OP - they can be painful, if he's been blue lighted he might have a stone stuck in a bile duct. Left untreated they can cause some other problems, but that won't happen as he's in the right place and they'll soon sort him out. He'll probably be floating on morphine by now, try not to worry!

Hope for more news in the morning. Flowers

MrsCK · 12/08/2017 02:34

Thanks. He's been on morphine for 2 weeks and it's not touching the pain which is why I'm concerned. It does sound to me like things have changed and he's hopefully considered more of a priority for surgery.
I just hope no complications occur.

Try and have a sleep, MrsCK. Things will look better in the morning.

StinkyVonWinky · 12/08/2017 02:41

FiL had something similar, OP. We we're very worried about him, as hospital was trying to discharge him at 9 pm the day after his operation and his wife refused to let them, as she said she knew he wasn't coping well with the pain. So he stayed another night, they upped his pain meds, and he came out next day. Now totally fine. It was very scary though. I think when people are in extreme pain like this, it can make you feel really helpless. Hope your DH is better very soon.

BillyDaveysDaughter · 12/08/2017 02:50

Hmm, I'm amazed they haven't whisked him in to extract the troublesome thing already, with his level of pain - the damn stones are super painful but I believe complications are rare.

Anyway, if I learned anything from my CBT for anxiety, it was to think of all the possible GOOD outcomes instead of the bad...sounds trite but it can be helpful in the wee small hours.

Update

Fil just phoned to say they think there's a problem with his pancreas due to where the pain is

OP posts:
BillyDaveysDaughter · 12/08/2017 03:03

Yes I read that that can happen with long term gallbladder problems (also why I'm hoping to have mine out quickly). Rotten for your DH. They will be monitoring him closely and working out their next move I expect...I take it he still has his gallbladder, wonder if they'll get on and remove it now!

mehimthem · 12/08/2017 03:05

hi OP. just wondering too if you are listed as next of kin at the hospital where your DH is, so any messages or updates will be called through to you. I'm sure your FIL loves your DH as well but it must be difficult when you seem to be getting updates via him & not direct from your DH (is he still in a lot of pain?) or from the hospital. Does your DH have a cell phone with him - just a thought.

Lukeandlorelai4Ever · 12/08/2017 03:11

Hope all okFlowers

5BlueHydrangea · 12/08/2017 03:27

Pancreatitis can be really painful. He'll need different meds to sort that and can take a while to get on top of. Hopefully in the morning they can get him sorted with the right diagnostic tests and treat him accordingly. Hope you get some rest.

LEMtheoriginal · 12/08/2017 03:49

Pancreatitis is often a complication of gallstones as they sort of sit together.
This in itself is painful often more so than gallstones.

I had lots of rides in an ambulance when I had gallstones. The pain made childbirth look like a twinge! The good news is that I am now gallbladder free and never had any problems since.

Hopefully they will crack on and get it out as an urgent case now. However they will be reluctant to do so during a flare up as the inflammation makes the surgery more difficult and recovery longer. (I skipped out of hospital after keyhole surgery but there were times I would have accepted decapitation if I thought it would stop the pain!)

I would very much doubt that surgery would be an option thought as they will need to calm the pancreas down - fluids and anti inflammatory meds (at least that's what they do in dogs -im a vet nurse).

Does your dh avoid fat like it is poison? The tiniest bit of fat would trigger mine - they upside was that I lost 4 stone in 8 weeks although as diets go if it recommend it!Wink

Hi OP. Deep breaths - my mum had similar - it's incredibly painful and she was in and out of the hospital until they removed pancreas - been recovered for years and other than having to take supplements to compensate for no pancreas - is fighting fit and without pain. Good luck with DH - he's in the best place.

daisychain01 · 12/08/2017 06:04

LEM you read my mind I was going to say it sounds very much like pancreatitis which I know from my DBro who suffered from it and yes it would suddenly flare up, and he had to be on a very strict diet to get things under control. The slightest drop of alcohol was a trigger, along with anything fatty.

daisychain01 · 12/08/2017 06:07

I hope your DH is feeling better soon Flowers

MrsCK · 12/08/2017 06:31

Thanks all.
He was only diagnosed with gallstones 2 weeks ago when first admitted to hospital but he's been quite strict with what he's eaten.

They've said last week they're reluctant to remove it at the moment due to inflammation however this seems silly that it's now giving added complications. Perhaps they'll get the pancreas under control and then remove it? How long could that take for his pancreas to settle?

Gallstones and pancreatitis can go hand in hand. Both are treatable although painful. 💕

MrsCK · 12/08/2017 12:22

Thanks for getting me through last night. There's no real update yet other than they are scanning and he's still in immense pain but "no longer critical". I didn't realise he was critical...but I'm not entirely sure what that means.

OP posts:
aaaaargghhhhelpme · 12/08/2017 12:41

Oh op. Sorry I didn't see this last night but glad there were lots of hand holds Flowers

Sounds so stressful. But it's good news he's no longer critical. He's in the best place but it's awful not being near.

Sending lots of positive vibes to you and DH x
