For shouting at her?

I was deep in discussion today with 3 of my bosses. I was standing in a doorway. Another staff member came up behind me and stuck her fingers in my ears.
I whipped round shouting "Jesus DON'T do that to me! You didn't know if I was going to turn round a punch you!".
I'm not close to this person but actually had no clue who it was- just an instinctive reaction. I mean who the hell actually DOES something like that in a work environment? We are actually a registered profession too which makes it even more bizarre behaviour.
I'm still cross about it now!

YANBU. What a weird thing to do.

I hate being touched normally, this would have seriously fucked me off.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/08/2017 23:17

Who the fuck does something like that??? I would have flipped my shit, too. That's just fucking creepy and totally inexcusable.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 11/08/2017 23:19

That's weird and unacceptable. What did your bosses say/do?

MammaTJ · 11/08/2017 23:19

YANBU!! How did the bosses react?

How did she react? I guess defensively!

FilledSoda · 11/08/2017 23:20

Omg what was she thinking?

Gibble1 · 11/08/2017 23:23

They all sat there completely agape! She's done it to several other people too apparently and they too have shouted at her and nearly hit her.
Bloody wierd.
Lucky there were no customers around to see.

Oh and no she didn't react defensively at all! She looked completely unfazed by my reaction. I can't fathom it.

I have known people like her. Completely oblivious to what is acceptable behaviour, and no matter how many people they offend, they still don't get it. They think they're funny and clever.

hiphopcat · 11/08/2017 23:33

Odd. Unless you are an office banter and fuck around kind of office.

I worked somewhere once where people gave wet willies and wedgies and towel flicks across the arse, and tugged at pony tails, and ruffled your hair and all sorts of shit. We were all 19 to 25 and nobody minded.

But if it's not the done thing, then that's a bit odd.

YANBU.

Also prodding into your ears is potentially dangerous. You may have bad/poorly ears!

YorkshireTree · 11/08/2017 23:38

Bizarre! Has anyone made a complaint? The bosses may be wishing you would. So unprofessional.

Gibble1 · 11/08/2017 23:41

@hiphopcat; I do have bad ears! I'm very hard of hearing (which we all laugh about) and constantly feel like I have my head underwater.
Maybe I should have just punched her 😂

OP posts:
hiphopcat · 11/08/2017 23:42

LOL, yeah maybe a punch would stop the silly mare!

Viviennemary · 11/08/2017 23:42

I'd hate it if somebody did that to me. It's assault. Complain to HR.

TheCuriousOwl · 11/08/2017 23:45

Someone did similar to me once (dug me in the ribs when I was doing something that requires concentration with a fair amount of adrenaline) and I did actually punch him Grin I didn't get in trouble, he thought it was pretty fair!

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 11/08/2017 23:54

One day she will do it to the wrong person and get a smack. It will serve her right and she will not do it again. I cannot stand people like that.

Happytobefree17 · 11/08/2017 23:55

How strange. And even weirder that your bosses didn't react more strongly.

blackteasplease · 11/08/2017 23:55

I would really hate that.

YANBU.

Gibble1 · 11/08/2017 23:57

Crikey, you mean it's actually a thing to go up and attack colleagues this way? Flipping heck!
Now don't get me wrong, the kids and I sometimes wrestle each other to give wet willies but 1: we never attack unawares and 2: we are related and used to having close physical contact ( with no personal boundaries cause I am Mum and therefore don't need my own space 🙄😂).
I think this is even beyond CFness isn't it?

JayneAusten · 12/08/2017 00:00

No way! I would flip out if someone did this to me. It's so intrusive! I mean not to get all weird about it but she penetrated an orifice without consent! I think maybe send her a follow up e-mail and say 'Don't EVER touch me again without my permission or I will report you'.

mehimthem · 12/08/2017 00:00

totally agree (that you are not BU) - how weird is that other staff person. I work in an office where last year the (then) receptionist used to hug everyone (think: bear hugs, complete enveloping of other person :0 ). Used to unnerve & bother lots of people, but wish in hindsight now I had yelled at her as you did OP, that may have stopped her :)

Happytobefree17 · 12/08/2017 00:02

But why did your bosses not deal with it there and then?

MrsOverTheRoad · 12/08/2017 00:03

I bet she does it as a way of upsetting people and she chose that moment because you were talking to your bosses. Does she have much contact with you usually? Is she under or over you? I'd have knocked her out probably.

Seeingadistance · 12/08/2017 00:05

I can't get past the fact that she stuck her fingers in your ears!!! Shock

blankface · 12/08/2017 00:10

I'd have instinctively decked the stupid woman, she deserves being hauled over the coals by her manager for that.

the kids and I sometimes wrestle each other to give wet willies
I just have to ask... I'm guessing that's a dialect phrase?
