I have a rare husband and child free night all to myself . AIBU to want to watch my favorite ever film, with a glass or 2 of cava? (I dislike prosecco)

Can I find said film anywhere?!!!

I have Sky, amazon prime and Netflix - not a friggin' sausage!

I do not have a DVD player, although I may have the DVD but i don't want to watch it on uncomfortable computer chair upstairs in my husbands office!

Woe is me.

Was thinking about Muriel last night, while I watched Strictly Ballroom Grin

Penny4UrThoughts · 12/08/2017 08:19

I know nobody that loves these films as I do. You people are out there! You really exist!

This is a wonderful day

MissionItsPossible · 12/08/2017 08:26

Muriel's Wedding has one of the best endings to any film EVER.

It is a comedy but I also think it's very dark and sometimes depressing. I LOVE the final shot of Muriel in the car leaving for Sydney with Rhonda and she has that smile on her face and you just realise how much she has grown in a short space of time.

I've found my tribe! Adore Muriel's Wedding and Strictly Ballroom! I have Muriel's Wedding on VHS but of course nothing to play it on! There's so many funny and poignant points in it, when she's flirting with the guy in the video rental place and she asks him to look over the road, when she meets the swimmer for the first time, when her mum puts a cup of water with a teabag in it into the microwave...
Why are they not showing it on any streaming service?! I looked for it too recently and nothing! We need to start a petition.

Strictly Ballroom is sheer brilliance.

'You're gutless! You're a gutless wonder!'

Also, bit of trivia for you Barry Fife is the dentist in Finding Nero.

WhooooAmI24601 · 12/08/2017 09:13

I love Strictly Ballroom - his Dad dancing on his own makes me so sad.

And Muriel's Wedding is the film of my teen years. I had such a crush on the swimmer she married. DH despises it so I rarely watch it any more. I'm digging it out tonight.

I'm married. I'm beautiful. I shout this at DH when he's pissing me off. He says I need to find new favourite films but true love like this lasts a lifetime.

Your welcome op

It's my favourite film it always reminds me of my mum who passed away a few years ago. She loved abba and Muriel's wedding

The80sweregreat · 12/08/2017 12:05

Muriel's friend is such a good egg. I love her.
The mother's depression is upsetting though and her dad is such an arse.
They dont make them like this anymore.

FoofFighter · 12/08/2017 12:25

Just watching Strictly Ballroom on iPlayer, one of my fave films ever!

Tbh there's not many Australian movies that don't appeal to me

AztecHero · 12/08/2017 12:32

I was thinking about Muriel's wedding just last night!

The whole 'how did you find out he was cheating on you' thing and the bride crying and saying 'he had lipstick...down there' while her friend who DID have (not oral) sex with the groom at the wedding thinks; 'Hang on..... ' '

Work of art, that.

And Terence Stamp in Priscilla......an enduring crush for me.

abundantlyclear · 12/08/2017 12:43

Another brilliant movie - The Dressmaker.
Very sad though

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 12/08/2017 12:44

The Dressmaker was incredible I can't believe it didn't do better at the box office.

rubybleu · 12/08/2017 13:09

There's lots of old Australian movies/mini series on YouTube. Strictly & Muriel's Wedding is definitely on YouTube as is The Castle (tell 'im he's dreaming) and Brides of Christ if anyone remembers that!

OMG The Castle!!!

That is why i find the concept of Eric Bana as a heart throb so baffling- he makes a brilliant dag! (What an actor......:) )

DH loves 'Hercules returns'. I am not sure too many outside of Oz (DH is Scottish) has ever seen it. He apparently came across it with his ex who was Australian.

bluetongue · 12/08/2017 13:49

'It's going straight to the pool room' Grin

JemAppelleLafayette · 12/08/2017 15:08

I have been watching Muriel's Wedding this morning and just remembered this factoid :
Hunky Swimmer David now plays Rob's crazy cokehead friend in Catastrophe and is married to Fay Ripley from Cold Feet IRL! ShockGrin

The80sweregreat · 12/08/2017 18:18

Thats right, i wonder if Fay ripley is still married to him?
He is so horrible to her at first, then nice ( ish)
Those girls are just vile too - reminds me of all the queen bees i have ever had the misfortune to meet.

rubybleu · 13/08/2017 16:28

Aztec I'm showing my age badly, but to me Eric Bana = Poida Grin

I don't care if he's gone on to do bigger and better things...

Philomena27 · 13/05/2018 22:09

Ooooh! About to start on Channel 5! One to record maybe!

Hassled · 13/05/2018 22:17
