I have a rare husband and child free night all to myself . AIBU to want to watch my favorite ever film, with a glass or 2 of cava? (I dislike prosecco)

Can I find said film anywhere?!!!

I have Sky, amazon prime and Netflix - not a friggin' sausage!

I do not have a DVD player, although I may have the DVD but i don't want to watch it on uncomfortable computer chair upstairs in my husbands office!

Woe is me.

Great film. Muriel was amazing and proved you dont have to be young, pretty, rich etc as long as you a good solid gold heart. Love it. (Digs out copy, graps chocs and sits down)

TartanDMs · 11/08/2017 20:48

I had exactly the same problem when I wanted to watch Strictly Ballroom. It's not even on kodi Sad

getdownshep · 11/08/2017 20:50

I love that film, I too have it on DVD.

As PP mentioned, try YouTube or 123movies (linked above).

If you have an xbox/playstation, most of them are capable of playing dvds

Aria2015 · 11/08/2017 20:54

Great film! I ordered it on DVD so it's always to hand! I'd happily lend it to you if we weren't just anonymous strangers on MN lol!

abundantlyclear · 11/08/2017 20:56

Yep - I adore the film but it's a film I've cried many times over.
When her mum's shoes are rubbing, her mum being completely invisible to everyone. I cry when Muriel goes back and sees the garden burnt out and when she hides in her room with Abba blaring. Her desperation to escape her upbringing is so real. Toni Collette was fantastic in every scene.

NoPressureNoDiamonds · 11/08/2017 20:57

My husband is away and my baby is asleep in bed and now I want to watch Muriel's wedding!!

elQuintoConyo · 11/08/2017 20:57

"And you three - what a bunch of cocksuckers!" has to be my favourite line!

It is a perfect film: funny, deeply deeply sad, poignant, strong women, weak women, bulldozed women.

I wish my life was like an ABBA song Grin

GhostCurry · 11/08/2017 21:01

"You were right about those cupboards" is probably my favourite line from a film. Just so perfectly encapsulates the superior attitude of those two women, who blow in and "fix" the household of a recently deceased, recently single overwhelmed mother.

Or on a more satisfying note - "stick your drink up your arse Tanya, I would rather swallow razorblades than drink with you." Grin

MsHarry · 11/08/2017 21:28

You're terrible muriel!
Loved that film.

GingerKitCat · 11/08/2017 21:56

Strictly Ballroom is on BBC1 tonight at 11:05pm Tartan!

Joining in the Muriel's Wedding love! On the recent overrated films thread someone sad they hated it Shock Grin

FrankiesKnuckle · 11/08/2017 22:13

So thanks to the link above I got to watch Muriel's wedding in its entirety!

I remember going to see it when it came out -94 and being blown away that i wasn't the only one that had shit parents! I've had the cava and now I feel a little emotional for a myriad of reasons...... bloody great film can't wait for the stage show!

I remember going to see it with a friend and crying all the way through because of how shit she was treated and how insignificant she felt and I felt exactly like that. Now I watch it and my heart breaks for her mother. I just want to hug her.

BuggertheTabloids · 11/08/2017 22:22

That is my favourite film! I have found my people Grin
Everyone else seems to think I am crazy...
"I'd rather swallow razor blades than drink with you" has to be the best line ever. Brilliant!

ilovepixie · 11/08/2017 22:41

SINCE I’VE MET YOU AND MOVED TO SYDNEY I HAVEN’T LISTENED TO ONE ABBA SONG. THAT’S BECAUSE NOW MY LIFE’S AS GOOD AS AN ABBA SONG. IT’S AS GOOD AS DANCING QUEEN.

Whiterabbitears · 11/08/2017 23:43

Strictly ballroom is on now! BBC 1 quick! Love Muriel's wedding, her friend Rhonda? Is the best, she's fucking hilarious! I always wished I could hang out with her back in the day.

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 12/08/2017 00:28

I love Strictly Ballroom! I bought the DVD not long ago and sat wondering what they all look like now. Don't google what Scott looks like, you'll be disappointed

TheSconeOfStone · 12/08/2017 01:11

Love Muriel's wedding. DH and the kids are away so just watched Strictly Ballroom with a glass or two of Cava (nicer than Prosecco). I cry every time.

ThePurpleOneWithTheNut · 12/08/2017 01:23

Love Muriel's Wedding.
Deidre Chambers! What a coincidence! Grin

(Strictly Ballroom equally excellent)

PinkGlitter17 · 12/08/2017 01:30

Thank you FrankiesKnuckle and thank you eubyru

I'm also in a wasteland of finding nothing of interest on Netflix/Prime/Freesat and Muriel's Wedding was just the ticket Smile

maddiemookins16mum · 12/08/2017 07:51

We had I do, I do, I do as our exiting music at our wedding, everyone sang along and cheered.
