Aibu to be fed up with summer weather in the UK?

Just that, really. Yes, I know July was rather good but you can't really enjoy it as a kid stuck at school for 6.5 hours. Since the schools broke off, it's been awful. August has just been dire temperature wise. The rain is depressing. Rant over!! Hmm

Yes the weather was lovely during the last term. I work term time only so am a bit fed up of the weather. I'm ready for autumn now (good job too as it appears to have arrived!).

mogulfield · 11/08/2017 19:31

It's getting to me as well, it's felt like October here (Wales) recently. I've had to wear a jumper and coat for the past 2 weeks, it's August! I can't remember an august this bad for a long time. I'm thinking of moving to sunnier climbs (I used to live in California and bloody loved the weather).

formerbabe · 11/08/2017 19:41

Yeah I'm fed up of it too! Pleased I didn't bother buying lots of new summer clothes. Really irritated that it was boiling hot during term time and now this. I usually fill up the days in the summer hols with long days at the park having a picnic and ice creams...it's been a struggle to think of things to do.

WallisFrizz · 11/08/2017 19:44

Yep, we're going on our Uk seaside holiday tomorrow. The weather prediction is awful, and, because it's the school holidays we're paying an arm and a leg for it.

mumontherun14 · 11/08/2017 19:45

We've had the heating on already in Scotland! We've had week after week of grey skies and rain and only got a few of the nice heatwave type days. It hasn't been too bad during the holidays as my 2 are older and happy to potter about with pals or just get on with things even in bad weather but it's rubbish when you have young kids and want to get them out to the parks. School is back on here next week and even with the rubbish weather the kids still don't want to go back to school...xxx

megletthesecond · 11/08/2017 19:46

Yanbu. It's getting me down tbh.

YokoReturns · 11/08/2017 19:50

Teacher here. I wish term ended after GCSEs/A-levels (so mid-June). August is, without exception, a washout. I actually think we should go to the five-term model so that our breaks were paced a bit better throughout the year.

BazilGin · 11/08/2017 19:57

Thanks, DH thinks I am exaggerating. He said July was fab. So it was! And we were at work and the kids were at school!! Angry
Currently on holiday on the coast, it's been cold and mainly wet. I am going to start saving up for Italy hols next year!!

Yanbu. If our heating worked I would put it on.

Gotanewusernamenow · 11/08/2017 20:20

Yes mogulfield the seasons have certainly changed.
I can't remember June & July ever being like this.
We used to get wks on end of hot decent weather!
Now we are lucky if we get a couple of days at a time.
Really disheartening.
Would love to live somewhere like California where the weather is reliable.

I spoke to my sister who lives in my native country, and complained about the weather. Her reply was, consider ourselves lucky that we don't hear ambulance going up and down the street and so many people get seriously sick by heatstroke. It's totally true, we can still go out and play in the park, go to the beach, etc, without the fear of death.

Redlocks28 · 11/08/2017 20:37

Totally agree, OP! I spent weeks teaching in a boiling hot classroom in sensible clothes and couldn't wait to get my flip flops on and spend lovely days having picnics in the park. My kids all sweltered through their exam weeks and since we broke up, it has rained every single day! No doubt it will continue to be crap just in time for us to go back to school when we'll have an Indian summer Angry.

Pleasedontdrawonyoursister · 11/08/2017 20:45

It's so annoying, this is my daughters last few weeks before starting school. I envisioned long days with friends spent in the parks, or paddling pool, local splash pads etc... Nope!! Both DDs hate the rain so can't even take them for puddle walks Sad

Tralalalalz · 11/08/2017 20:48

June and July were magnificent and apart from a few days it has been fine here

hellokittymania · 11/08/2017 20:49

Summer weather is terrible! I ran out of coffee on Wednesday and didn't go out and buy anymore because it was raining so much and cold. Bring back the 35° in June

PollyFlint · 11/08/2017 20:50

YANBU. Even I'm fed up with it, and I'm not even a summer person as a general rule and don't even like the heat that much. But even for me this incessant drizzly rain and cold wind is just depressing in July and August - all I ask to be able to sit in the garden with a drink now and again and go out without a jacket and an umbrella!

I was working from home today and seriously considered putting the heating on at one point.

SuperBeagle · 11/08/2017 20:53

Move to Australia. The weather is beautiful here. Grin

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 11/08/2017 20:55

We haven't used the paddling pool since June Sad It really does feel like Autumn. Thick cloud and off and on drizzle all day, top temperature of 16.

c3pu · 11/08/2017 20:58

YABU - This is the UK, unless you're new to the British isles you should be well used to the weather doing its best to royally fuck up your plans by now.

allegretto · 11/08/2017 20:59

I'm here for my summer holidays (normally live in Italy) and it is depressing. Then I remind myself that I would rather have a light drizzle then the forty degree hell over there!

Motoko · 11/08/2017 21:02

It's so depressing. I've noticed my mood is so much brighter when the sun shines, even if I'm stuck indoors.

The weather over the last few years seems to be better during late spring/early summer, and September.

I live in Wales, so even when the south east is having good weather, it's often either wet or grey, as our weather usually comes from the west.

OSETmum · 11/08/2017 21:04

If you live down south, just be grateful you had a nice June/ July. Up north we had rubbish ones and it's even worse now ☹️. I suffer from SAD and am really struggling.

BazilGin · 11/08/2017 21:19

I am also pleased I haven't spent much on summer clothes this year, they'd just be gathering dust. I do feel sorry for all the kids (mine included) and folks like us who are spending their hoidays in the UK.

BazilGin · 11/08/2017 21:22

C3pu-not new here, have been living here for the past 13 years but still can't get over it. Sorry! I think this year is particularly bad though.

yummumto3girls · 11/08/2017 21:23

I think school summer hols should start in May and end beginning August, weather always better then and terrible in August!
